00:00Canada newly elected Prime Minister, Mark Carney on Tuesday met with President Donald Trump of the United States,
00:07U.S. after he had arrived at its rival trade war neighboring country,
00:11the U.S. earlier on Monday with a statement that Canada and U.S. are strongest when they work together,
00:17and, on Tuesday when he finally met with Trump at the Oval Office,
00:21he bluntly told the U.S. President that Canada is not for sale and won't be for sale ever,
00:27after Trump made a repeat statement of Canada becoming the 51st states of the United States of America, USA.
00:36Mark Carney, shortly after arriving in the U.S. on Monday, said,
00:40I've arrived in Washington, D.C., ahead of meetings with President Trump tomorrow.
00:46Canada and the United States are strongest when we work together, and that work starts now,
00:51Carney stated via social media post.
00:54During the meeting on Tuesday, Trump said,
00:58As a real estate developer, when you get rid of that artificial line,
01:02when you look at that beautiful formation together,
01:05I said, that's the way it was meant to be.
01:08Carney responded and said,
01:10As you know from real estate, there are some places that are never for sale.
01:14We are sitting in one right now,
01:17having met with the owners of Canada over the course of the campaign the last several months,
01:21it's not for sale. It won't be for sale ever.
01:25It would be recalled that the two leaders quickly engaged in a continuous exchange of words soon
01:30after Mark Carney took over as Canada Prime Minister following Trump's repeated suggestions
01:35that Canada become part of the U.S. as the 51st state.
01:39After insisting that Canada is not for sale,
01:43Mark Carney added that although Canada is not for sale,
01:46but the opportunity is in the partnership and what we can build together.
01:50And we have done that in the past.
01:53Trump still didn't let go of the idea as he later mused,
01:56Never say never.
01:58Time will tell.
01:59It's only time.
02:01But I say never say never,
02:03Trump said.
02:03I've had many, many things that were not doable,
02:07and they ended up being doable and only doable in a very friendly way.
02:12Trump had in some minutes ahead of the meeting lashed out at Canada on his conservative social media platform,
02:18the truth platform, writing,
02:20The U.S. didn't need anything the country has to offer in terms of trade and goods.
02:26We don't need the cars.
02:28We don't need their energy.
02:29We don't need their lumber.
02:31We don't need anything they have, other than their friendship,
02:34which hopefully we will always maintain.
02:37They, on the other hand, need everything from us.
02:41The Prime Minister will be arriving shortly and that will be, most likely,
02:45my only question of consequence, Trump wrote.
02:49Carney's visit comes off the heels of his election win to replace Justin Trudeau that was fueled,
02:55in part, by his anti-Trump platform.
02:57After his victory, Carney warned Canadians,
03:01Trump is trying to break us so that America can own us.
03:05That will never, that will never ever happen.
03:08Trump on Monday had said he was,
03:10not sure,
03:11what the Prime Minister wanted to discuss but added that Canada,
03:15wants to make a deal,
03:16while Carney said on Friday that they will focus on,
03:19trade pressures and the broader future economic and security relationship.
03:23I'm not pretending these discussions will be easy.
03:27They won't proceed in a straight line, Carney said last week.
03:31There will be ups and downs, zigzags along the way,
03:35but as I said in my remarks,
03:37I will fight for the best possible deal for Canada.
03:40I will only accept what's in the best interest of Canadians,
03:44and I will take as much time as necessary to achieve that.
03:47It takes two to tango, right?
03:50But no, I do.
03:51I mean, I believe it would be a massive tax cut for the Canadian citizens.
03:56You get free military,
03:57you get tremendous medical cares and other things.
04:02There would be a lot of advantages,
04:04but it would be a massive tax cut.
04:07And it's also a beautiful,
04:09you know, as a real estate developer,
04:10you know I'm a real estate developer at heart.
04:12When you get rid of that artificially drawn line,
04:15somebody drew that line many years ago with like a ruler,
04:17just a straight line right across the top of the country.
04:20When you look at that beautiful formation when it's together,
04:24I'm a very artistic person,
04:27but when I looked at that beauty,
04:28I said that's the way it was meant to be.
04:30But, you know,
04:31I do feel it's much better for Canada,
04:35but we're not going to be discussing that
04:38unless somebody wants to discuss it.
04:39I think that there are tremendous benefits to the Canadian citizens,
04:44tremendously lower taxes,
04:46free military,
04:47which honestly we give you essentially anyway,
04:49because we're protecting Canada if you ever had a problem.
04:53But I think, you know,
04:54it would really be a wonderful marriage
04:57because it's two places they get along very well.
05:00They like each other a lot.
05:02Well, if I may,
05:05as you know from real estate,
05:07there are some places that are never for sale.
05:10That's true.
05:10We're sitting in one right now,
05:12you know,
05:12Buckingham Palace that you visited as well.
05:14That's true.
05:15And having met with the owners of Canada
05:18over the course of the campaign last several months,
05:21it's not for sale,
05:22won't be for sale ever.
05:24But the opportunity is in the partnership
05:27and what we can build together.
05:30We have done that in the past.
05:31And part of that,
05:32as the president just said,
05:33is with respect to our own security.
05:36And my government is committed
05:38for a step change in our investment
05:41in Canadian security and our partnership.
05:44And I'll say this as well,
05:45that the president has revitalized international security,
05:50revitalized NATO,
05:51and us playing our full weight in NATO.
05:54And that will be part of the show.
05:55They have,
05:55I must say,
06:00Canada is stepping up the military participation
06:04because Mark knew,
06:06you know,
06:07they were low and now they're stepping it up.
06:08And that's a very important thing.
06:10But never say never,
