At the 2025 Met Gala carpet, Ryan Coogler and Zinzi Evans talk to THR about the response to 'Sinners' and what it means for fans to want to watch the film in theaters.

00:00You know, I wonder, everyone talks about your explanation about the Kodak film,

00:04and that's been the greatest marketing.

00:07Did you know that that would do what it's done?

00:09Oh, of course not.

00:10No, no.

00:11I just wanted folks to know that we were thinking about their viewing experiences,

00:15and I wanted people to know how many different options were available to them

00:19and that it was something that we considered.

00:20You know what I mean?

00:21That was it.

00:22We had no idea it'll do what it did.

00:25No idea.

00:26Did you know?

00:27No, we just poured so much into this film, and we had so much fun making it.

00:33It was almost a crime.

00:35Yeah.

00:35But so that the audience is, you know, loving it just as much as we are is all we could ever ask for.

00:41How do we get IMAX to keep it back in theaters longer?

00:44Because I couldn't even get the new day.

00:47You know, that alone is honestly fueling us,

00:54that people are asking, like, the theater managers and saying,

00:58hey, can we keep this film in and see the film print more or longer?

01:04It's, you know.

01:04I mean, going to the movies means everything to us.

01:08As a couple, our first date was bringing on, and what was it, was it, 2000?

01:13In 2000?

01:14Yeah.

01:14Yeah, like, you know, that was our first, you know, time going out, you know what I'm saying,

01:17as kids and holding hands and sharing popcorn, you know, our co-founder,

01:22Savak Ahanian, he proposed to his wife in a movie theater.

01:26You know what I'm saying?

01:26Like, you know, so we all about it.

01:28And the fact that, you know, the pandemic and the strikes has kind of slowed that down,

01:32more material being available at home, better broadband speed has made it more difficult

01:38for people to want to leave the house, and to see people coming out and advocating for

01:42the experience, it's the greatest gift we can receive as filmmakers, to be honest with you.

01:48Oh, my goodness.

01:49Man, we're just talking about this movie now.

01:50One step out of time.

01:51We're grateful for the moment we're in.
