00:01Let's quickly review what we know about resumes.
00:05Well, they should be one page.
00:08That's it.
00:09Don't cram everything into it.
00:11Make it clean and simple.
00:12Only include relevant positions and things that make you stand out.
00:16Make the resume be very clear into what you did and don't use any vague language.
00:22I did this and it resulted in this.
00:24Why you did how you did it and what were the results.
00:28Make it measurable.
00:30Personalize your resume instead of just emailing a hundred companies try focusing on a few companies and personalize that resume to them.
00:40And finally, make sure there's some sort of an online presence that they could check out in case they want to find out more about you.
00:47And at the end of the day, you have a few seconds to get the person looking at your interview to say this person is smart and can help this company.
00:57Because remember a resume is a piece of paper.
01:00That someone will look at for a few seconds to decide to give you a phone interview or an in-person interview.
01:06So you don't want to spend a lot of time on it, but make it so it is effective.
01:09But it won't get you a job.
01:11You got to remember that what will get you the job is your projects, your interviewing skills, things we're going to cover.
01:19Finally, be honest with your resume.
01:21Be honest with your resume.
01:22Most companies will ask you questions about your resume and they can tell you if you made it up.
01:28It's better to be a hundred percent honest and be able to know a hundred percent about the projects that you worked on.
01:35And the resume items because that's something that you're going to talk about in the interview.
01:41I also want to show you a nice little tool.
01:43There are fun little tools like job scan where you can actually paste your resume paste the job description and you can scan it.
01:53And it will tell you how well your resume does and it will give you tips on how you can improve that resume to match the job that you want.
02:06But you may have noticed a problem with resumes.
02:10What if you don't really have that much experience or things to put down?
02:15What do you do in that case?
02:17What if I'm underqualified for a job?
02:20What if I've only been a developer for six months?
02:23What if I'm self-taught with no previous experience?
02:26What if I have nothing to put on my resume?
02:29We're going to tackle that question in the next video.
