00:00Today, we're talking about a car that might just redefine what affordable EVs should look like,
00:18but there's a twist. You might not even get to buy it in the US. This is the 2025 Kia EV2,
00:24a compact electric SUV designed with city life in mind, built for the world, but possibly not for
00:31us. So what makes the EV too such a game changer, and why is it shaking up the global EV scene before
00:37it even hits showroom floors? Buckle up as we explore the design, performance, and market
00:44strategy behind one of the most intriguing EVs of 2025. Let's start with what this vehicle is meant
00:50to be. The 2025 Kia EV2 isn't chasing top speeds or luxury headlines. It's going after something
00:58even more ambitious, everyday practicality for the urban driver. This is a B-segment electric SUV,
01:05which means it's smaller than your average crossover and perfectly sized for tight city streets,
01:11parallel parking, and suburban commutes. Think of it as the spiritual cousin to the BYD Dolphin
01:16or the upcoming Hyundai Inster. Two small EVs dominating global headlines for affordability
01:23and innovation. And that's exactly the space Kia is aiming for. A starting price of $30,000 to $33,000,
01:31depending on the region, makes the EV2 one of the most accessible electric SUVs on the market.
01:37Here's the kicker though. The EV2 likely won't be coming to the US. Kia is targeting Europe and other
01:44urban focused markets where compact, efficient EVs are in high demand. For American buyers,
01:50that's a hard pill to swallow, especially when the EV2 checks so many boxes. Kia has been on a design
01:56roll lately. The EV6 stunned us with its futuristic curves. The EV9 brought full-size presence to the
02:04electric space. Now the EV2 is next. And while it's smaller, it's no less stylish. Built using Kia's
02:12opposites united design philosophy, the EV2 will continue to embrace bold contrasts, sharp lines,
02:20geometric features, and a futuristic face. But because it's a more budget-friendly car,
02:26expect a slightly toned-down aesthetic compared to its older siblings. Instead of the traditional
02:31tiger-nose grille, we'll likely see a digitally reimagined front end. A closed grille for aerodynamic
02:38efficiency flanked by slim LED headlamps, possibly featuring Kia's star map lighting signature.
02:45The EV2's body will be defined by sleek contours, possibly with chunky accents around the shoulders
02:50or door jams, hinting at urban durability. The C-pillar design could be uniquely shaped to give the
02:57vehicle a dynamic stance. While the rear end will probably host a horizontal light bar,
03:01a signature on Kia's newest models like the EV5 and EV9. The tailgate and bumper design will remain
03:08simple, emphasizing maximum cargo accessibility for city dwellers who still need space for groceries,
03:15gear, or a weekend getaway. Let's talk numbers. Under the hood, or rather beneath the floor,
03:22the EV2 is expected to house a 49-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. This should give it an impressive
03:29range of about 480 kilometers, or nearly 300 miles under the WLTP cycle. In real-world urban driving,
03:38that means you'll likely only charge once a week. As for power, the EV2 is anticipated to come with a
03:45single electric motor, delivering around 113 horsepower and 108 pound-feet of torque. It's not
03:52going to win drag races, but it's more than enough for city driving. Quick off the line, smooth at low
03:58speeds and whisper quiet. Charging should also be user-friendly, with fast charging capability
04:04expected, although final specs haven't been confirmed yet. Don't expect Tesla supercharger
04:10level speeds, but for a city EV, it's about convenience, not kilowatts. Although the EV2 will
04:18fall on the affordable side of the EV spectrum, Kia has shown time and again that budget doesn't mean
04:23boring. We expect a minimalist interior with a wide touchscreen stretching across the dash and
04:30possibly digital climate and infotainment controls. Materials may be basic, think fabric upholstery and
04:37hard plastics, but fit and finish will likely be solid and tech will be impressive for its class.
04:44Features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist should be
04:50available, if not standard. This is a city EV, yes, but it's still 2025 and expectations have changed.
04:58So here's the big question. Why wouldn't Kia bring this to the U.S.? There are a few reasons.
05:04Market demand. American buyers still lean toward larger crossovers in trucks. Subcompact EVs have a
05:11harder time selling stateside. Profit margins. With strict regulations and shipping costs,
05:16bringing a $30,000 EV to the U.S. may not be financially worth it. Competition, U.S.-focused
05:23EVs like the Chevy Equinox EV and Tesla Model Y offer bigger platforms and better profit for
05:29automakers. That said, if EV trends continue toward affordable city commuting, the EV2, or U.S.-specific
05:36variant, could eventually make its way across the Atlantic. The 2025 Kia EV2 is shaping up to be one of
05:44the most compelling electric city cars in the world. Compact, affordable, practical, and stylish.
05:51It's proof that good EV design doesn't have to cost $50,000 plus, and that the future of urban mobility
05:58might be small, smart, and electric. But for now, that future is happening outside the U.S.
06:05Whether you're in Europe, South Korea, or select other global markets, the EV2 is a glimpse into how
06:13Kia plans to dominate the affordable EV space, one compact SUV at a time. So what do you think?
06:20Would the Kia EV2 be a hit if it came to the U.S.? Should automakers push harder to bring compact
06:26EVs to American roads? Drop your thoughts in the comments below. And if you want to see what small
06:32electric SUVs are already competing in this space, don't miss our comparison video of the BYD Dolphin
