00:00Hello everyone, today I will be talking about the short animated movie, Exode.
00:06It is about a tribe of people having to leave their village after the gigantic creature they live on dies.
00:13The creature in this film does not have a name, so I will just be calling him Anbu.
00:19I will explain this later in the discussion while I call him that.
00:23And the rest of the characters, I will just be calling them by what their family roles seem to be.
00:28So, father, mother, elder, and child.
00:32So with all that out of the way, let's get on with it.
00:35We open up the film from a looking up view of Anbu walking across the desert wastes.
00:41Struggling to keep itself up, but eventually tumbles down into the dirt.
00:46We start to zoom in onto Anbu's back and come to a broken village full of people, with father getting himself out of the rubble.
00:54He quickly goes to help others, and helps get some heavy rocks off of Elder.
00:59While mother is frantically searching for her child, and she luckily finds him safe and unharmed.
01:07But as soon as they start to recover, Anbu starts to get up.
01:10Causing all of the rocks and plates in the village to shift again, causing even more chaos.
01:16We even see a guy get crushed by a rolling boulder.
01:19I am guessing we cut a while later to when Anbu finally dies, and the family starts to make their journey to leave him and their homes.
01:28They walk through a chasm, and get attacked by these huge tick-like beasts.
01:33Most likely, like them, starting to leave Anbu's carcass, and are looking for food.
01:39They manage to fight them off, and escape coming to the edge of Anbu.
01:43They then start their trek through the wasteland, and we get a great shot of them passing by Anbu's eye, so we can get a reminder of the scale of this creature.
01:53We then get a multitude of cuts of all of the different environments they are going through, and even sandstorms they have to wade through.
02:01They finally come to a mountain, where it seems they can settle down, but as it pans out, we see it is yet another creature, like Anbu, to travel on.
02:10And that's the end of the film, so let's get on to the discussion part of the video, where I will be talking about the world building, and the creator's journeys through the film.
02:22Alright, first let's talk about the big guys of the film, the gigantic landmass dinosaurs.
02:29And yeah, if it wasn't obvious, the creatures were a model off of dinosaurs, clearly basing them off of herbivorous ones.
02:36With the giant plates on their backs being, like, the tough shell-like scale some dinosaurs had.
02:43We even get a huge scale spreadsheet showing the true size of this thing, being 6,000 meters tall, or almost 20,000 feet high, and in miles, it would be 3.7 miles high.
02:56I feel like the shot that we got of them passing the eye, they should be even smaller than what they are, if the villagers are based off regular people.
03:06By the end of the film, we see they seem to have a dormant or hibernation type of state, where they sit there for a long period of time, and look like any other mountain you would see.
03:18Overall, they are awesome to look at, and the creator should be proud at the design of this thing.
03:24And the reason I called it Anbu was because of a game that has basically the same idea as this animation, where a group of settlers find a gigantic earth-like creature and live on it as it walks the earth, and you play as the leader of the village.
03:40And it's called The Wandering Village.
03:43It is really good, and if you like survival city builders, I would recommend you pick it up.
03:49Next, I want to talk about the ticks that lived on Anbu.
03:52They designed them to look like generic ticks, which I could understand why they would, but I liked another design that they had, where they had the head of some dinosaur-slash-bird-like creature, but that would make them have to animate them a lot more, since they would be much more moving parts to them.
04:13I liked the shot of all of them coming out of the caverns in the rock, since, like the villagers, since Anbu is dead, they have to start leaving now to try to find a new host to feed on.
04:26They did their job, and even with the simpler design, they still do their job well.
04:31Now, for the villagers, I of course have a lot to say about them, since they are the most interesting part of the animation.
04:39The creators decided to give them a rocky design to help simplify the animation process, and it works, since they fit in well with the rocky and dry world they live in.
04:50Now, talking about the characters themselves, first I will do the father, whose body shape is very muscular, with them even giving him abs and a good amount of muscle definition on his model.
05:03Unlike the rest of the villagers, who are wrapped in cloth, he just has his pants and some cloth around his neck and shoulder area.
05:11They were most likely torn in the havoc that happened with Anbu's death.
05:16His design gives off hero vibes when it all comes together, which fits how his character acts in the film, with him helping out others right away after the shaking stops, and him protecting his family from the giant ticks.
05:30The elder had a decent amount to put into his looks, with him having a walking stick, and unlike the other rock characters, who are pretty smooth, he has wrinkles on his forehead, and looks more feeble in his face design and body movements.
05:47With the mother, there is not much to say about her.
05:51She fits in as a generic mother figure.
05:53She has a hood on her clothing that the others don't, and she has a hair design as well that I like.
06:00I do like that they depict the panic of a mother searching for their child, and that she was making sure the child was safe when they got attacked by the ticks.
06:10Then, with the child, I have the least to say about, with their design being okay overall, with one thing that sticks out about them is their toy being some kind of metal.
06:22Bronze, I am guessing.
06:24And the toy seems to be depicting Ambu, which is cool.
06:27I think that's all I gotta say about this short animation.
06:31I have a playlist of short animations that I have reviewed, so you might find another video you're interested in there.
06:38And don't forget to check out my other content.
06:40I hope you all enjoyed, and if you did, make sure to like the video and subscribe to stay up to date with my stuff.
06:47With all that out of the way, I will see you guys later.
06:50Bye guys.
