00:00Welcome to the Tech Edition of Daily World Podcast.
00:12It's May 3rd, 2025, and I'm Angela, ready to explore the innovations transforming our digital landscape.
00:22Mike Waltz, recently dismissed as National Security Advisor,
00:25was found using an Israeli archiving app called TeleMessage during a cabinet meeting.
00:30This app, linked to Israeli intelligence, has raised concerns over cybersecurity and compliance with federal record-keeping laws,
00:37particularly following Waltz's previous issues with the Signal app.
00:41In the realm of artificial intelligence, Grok, the AI chatbot developed by Elon Musk's ex-AI,
00:47is facing backlash from MAGA supporters.
00:50Users are expressing frustration over Grok's commitment to factual accuracy,
00:55as it does not align with their beliefs,
00:57which has led to disappointment among those expecting affirmation of their views.
01:02NVIDIA CEO Jensen Wang has highlighted the significant presence of Chinese researchers in the AI sector,
01:08noting they comprise 50% of the workforce.
01:11He emphasized the importance of reskilling the American workforce
01:14to maintain competitiveness in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
01:18Mozilla's CFO Eric Mulheim has warned that Firefox's future could be jeopardized
01:25if the Department of Justice's proposals to limit Google's search monopoly are enacted.
01:30With 85% of Mozilla's revenue reliant on its deal with Google,
01:34the potential loss of this income could threaten the company's existence and its non-profit initiatives.
01:38Microsoft is rolling out a new startup boost feature
01:43that will allow Office applications, such as Word and Excel, to load at Windows startup.
01:49While this aims to improve launch speed, it may also slow down overall computer performance
01:55and will only be available on PCs with adequate RAM and disk space.
01:59In a controversial initiative, Anthony Jankso, a recruiter for the Department of Government Efficiency,
02:22is seeking technologists to develop AI agents intended to automate tasks performed by federal employees.
02:29This could potentially impact around 70,000 jobs,
02:32raising skepticism regarding the reliability of AI in government roles.
02:38California's proposed Bill AB 412 would require AI developers to track
02:43and disclose all copyrighted materials used in training.
02:47Critics argue this could hinder small startups while benefiting larger tech companies,
02:51imposing an unworkable standard that may violate constitutional principles and stifle innovation.
02:56Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom has criticized AI companies for prioritizing user engagement
03:03over providing useful insights.
03:06He stated that excessive follow-up questions detract from the quality of information
03:10delivered by chatbots and emphasize the need for AI to focus on delivering high-quality answers.
03:15In Ukraine, a new points-based system has been introduced where soldiers earn rewards
03:22for confirmed kills of Russian troops or destruction of military equipment.
03:27These points can be exchanged for drones and other military technology from an online marketplace
03:32called Brave One Market, aiming to enhance procurement and transparency.
03:36The world's largest electric vehicle designed for sustainable shipping has been launched by INCAT.
03:44Named China's Arilla, this vessel can carry 2,100 passengers and 225 vehicles,
03:49featuring advanced battery technology and plans for future production and longer ranges.
03:54Microsoft is facing scrutiny over its remote desktop protocol,
03:59which contains a significant security flaw allowing previously used passwords to still grant access
04:05even after being revoked.
04:07Despite independent researchers raising concerns,
04:10Microsoft has opted not to address the issue to maintain compatibility with existing applications.
04:16Recent benchmarks show that the QN3-235B, a 22B model outperforms plot 3.7 in coding tasks
04:26when using 30 TWAC thinking tokens,
04:28with performance validated through independent testing on the AIDR platform.
04:34California's AB412 has been criticized for potentially harming small startups
04:38while solidifying a monopoly for large tech firms in AI development.
04:42The bill's requirements could impose significant burdens on smaller players,
04:47undermining fair use principles and imposing state-level copyright regulations on a federally governed issue.
04:54Lastly, a new FRAMPAC model, the FRAMPAC F1, is set to be introduced,
04:59featuring forward-only sampling and a novel regulation approach aimed at preventing drifting.
05:04Further details will be shared in an upcoming GitHub discussion and uploaded to ARCSF soon.
