In the year 2046, a cop and his female android partner called Armitage, part of the latest android line known as "class III" models that look, act and feel human, investigate illegal manufacture of class III androids on colonized Mars.

The overpopulation of Earth has led to the colonization of Mars. Using "first type" androids, humans began terraforming the unfriendly environment of Mars and built the city of Saint Lowell. Some time after the start of colonization, the city was completed and inhabited with humans and "Second type" robots (improved versions of the "First types").

00:00I'll see you next time.
02:00Hey, chica.
02:02Don't take the little chica away from the party so soon.
02:06Come on.
02:07She'd like it more if she went bye-bye with me.
02:10A big brother's protection extends from womb to tomb, and therefore...
02:14Today, there is a new development in the anti-robot movement.
02:24We have received official confirmation from the MPD of a definite connection between the Kelly McCannon incident, the terrorist puppet bombings, and the recent massacre at the hospital in Shinora.
02:33The police are asking for our viewers' help in locating these two suspects, Ross Syllabus and Naomi Armitage.
02:39The MPD confirmed there is a definite connection.
02:41If you have any information, please notify the police.
02:43Let me pick out our next meeting place, okay?
03:01Tables with umbrellas.
03:02If that makes you too sick, I know a vending machine and a clean bench.
03:05I guess maybe this is the worst place.
03:07A worst place?
03:09Only if I was in your shoes.
03:10Will you cut the crap?
03:11Did you find anything?
03:13Hmm.
03:14Yeah, your Danage Hill exists, but not on any map.
03:17Found a good highway going smack blank into a mountain, but there's no Asakura address box inviting any mail from a rogue cop.
03:25No SATA topographicals?
03:26Come on.
03:28Like I really got a couple of moons to power this thing.
03:32Hey, what are you doing?
03:34A loss in duty.
03:35Yeah, the dearly departed.
03:39Hey, Ross.
03:42Can you tell those guys, the Martians, tell them Eddie says what's up?
03:47I will.
03:51So?
03:52What's wrong?
03:56Well, are you going to tell me?
04:05Are you okay?
04:06No, I'm not.
04:08My CPU's all messed up.
04:10They say the mind's the first thing to go.
04:13Humans say it.
04:14Come on, machines don't go senile.
04:17They also say life is pretty short.
04:20It's like an expiration date, you know?
04:24Hey, how come...
04:26What?
04:27What's the reason you're doing all this for me?
04:31How come you're still hanging around with me and driving me all the way out here?
04:36Why change from a good cop to a criminal?
04:41How come...
04:42Stop it!
04:43You're asking stupid questions like some little kid.
04:47Why?
04:47How come?
04:49There's no answer.
04:53Huh?
04:53That's it.
05:06Isn't it?
05:07Coordinates.
05:12Virgin?
05:13Yeah, maybe if you just landed.
05:15Hey.
05:18It wastes fuel to keep the motor running.
05:21Huh?
05:46Yo!
05:47Anybody here?
05:51We're looking for a guy called Asakura.
05:55Is anyone here?
05:57You got visitors.
06:00Huh?
06:04What happened?
06:06I take it easy.
06:07Move away from it nice and slow.
06:09Don't shoot!
06:10It's only a robot.
06:12Yeah, a big one.
06:14It's somehow just like me.
06:16I think it's a bioroid type.
06:18What is it?
06:19Some kind of a prototype?
06:20May I help you?
06:22Huh?
06:31Talk about your family trees.
06:34It's just another robot.
06:35Just like the giant.
06:37I heard someone calling for Dr. Asakura.
06:40Hmm.
06:41Uh, I did.
06:45Appointment?
06:46No, I suppose not.
06:49Would you follow me, please?
06:53Dr. Asakura, visitors.
06:56Uh, Mr. Syllabus.
07:00Papa!
07:01Ah!
07:02The new man from conception.
07:05It's been so many years,
07:06and you even brought one of the models along.
07:10Mr. Syllabus.
07:11Uh, but I'm not-
07:12Papa!
07:13Papa!
07:16Oh, but she's only a third.
07:19She's so inferior.
07:22The poor little thing.
07:23But you needn't be so kind.
07:25It's outdated.
07:26Oh, I'm sorry.
07:28Here, take a look at this.
07:31A fourth type that conception can be proud of.
07:34There's no longer any need to copy humans or plants anymore.
07:39They live.
07:40They're alives.
07:42Oh, no, you should call them phobians.
07:45What?
07:45Yes, a new life, my Marfordians.
07:48But you won't.
07:49You'll just be calling them anything you want when you market them.
07:52The stupid company you work for is just going to call them the fourths, aren't they?
07:58They're alives.
07:59A grand conception.
08:01Then it all goes wrong.
08:03The doctor's mind was unfortunately altered.
08:07Reduplication of his thoughts is very difficult.
08:10Please be patient.
08:12His memory.
08:13Was it erased?
08:15Who are you?
08:16I am Wilbur Dan Claude.
08:18And...
08:20Dr. Asakura's aide.
08:21Oh, well, yeah.
08:22He might look to you like he's one of those Dan Assassin-roids.
08:26But I fixed up his crazy head.
08:29Just as you can see.
08:31Indeed he did.
08:33The violent tendencies I had are now gone due to the upgrade.
08:37What's the reason?
08:38Pardon?
08:39Dr. Asakura.
08:41His mind.
08:42Just what's wrong with it?
08:43Forget it, Ross.
08:46That's enough.
08:51Are you still cold?
08:59It's affecting my nervous system.
09:02I'm sorry I lost my temper.
09:04I was just hoping that the doctor could help you somehow.
09:09Never count on hope.
09:11You'll lose.
09:12When wishes are gone, hope gives nothing.
09:16And then you hope that your father might know.
09:20And hopes are really fragile.
09:22They get all ruined.
09:25Every time you believe that someone else is gonna help your hopes come true.
09:35A hope is a feeling.
09:37Maybe you'll be okay.
09:38If I was a second, then I wouldn't even be able to think of all this stupid crap.
09:46But I'm programmed to be a human.
09:49And I don't know what it means.
09:52Hope is a human feeling, isn't it?
09:54Come on, tell me more.
09:55Hey.
09:56I met one.
09:58He's a human.
09:59And he's less real than all of the things you're talking about.
10:04Know what he said?
10:06Don't give up.
10:07Ross.
10:16Are you sure?
10:23Oh, Armitage.
10:25I think it's the only thing I've been sure of since I got here.
10:28How about you?
10:31Well, at least something is normal here on Mars.
10:37But I'm not normal.
10:42I'm a robot.
10:44I'm half robot, too.
10:45But I know a true heart when I've met one.
10:50We interrupt this broadcast for the following announcement.
10:53Good evening.
10:54We've just received word that, as of 11 p.m. UTN time, the economic agreement has been signed at last.
11:00Mars and Earth have finally signed the treaty.
11:02Officials from both powers are quoted as saying,
11:04This is a first step toward one world, one nation.
11:22Follow me.
11:23There's something I'd like to show you.
11:25Where's the doc?
11:29This morning he's with his Alives.
11:31He's concentrating on further hybridization.
11:34He intends to continue and complete the initial terraforming plans.
11:39That isn't possible.
11:40Yes, rational thought would agree.
11:48Don't worry.
11:50The unborn sister poses no threat.
11:53Dr. Asakura gave up weapon production.
11:56He left this new model unfinished.
11:58But why?
11:59A difference of opinion with his partner, Professor Dan Claude.
12:02That's enough.
12:04Let's go.
12:05Is there something else?
12:09I brought you here because I felt you had previous knowledge of the thirds being created as assassinroids.
12:14Nice upgrade. Go on.
12:16It's the unfinished work.
12:19Professor Dan Claude began work on female assassinroids,
12:22which would some way complement the multitude of my brothers.
12:26Along with myself and Armitage, we were the pinnacle of robotic creation.
12:30Although our strength and abilities far surpassed humans,
12:33it was quite simple to assimilate ourselves into their society.
12:38Then, Dr. Asakura used us as a base of synthetic organisms in developing the thirds,
12:43programming creativity and life instead of the directive to destroy.
12:48Unfortunately, all the prototypes had an imperfection.
12:51There were many instabilities within the logic boards of the third CPU.
12:56Of course, Dr. Asakura's present state of mind
12:59prevented him from ever quite perfecting the female models.
13:01Dr. Asakura's present state of mind
13:03I'm nothing. He couldn't finish. I'm useless.
13:06He doesn't even care.
13:07No, wait!
13:10So, why create a third type?
13:13I mean, the seconds were good enough, even on Earth.
13:17Perhaps being from Earth, you do not have the knowledge of the difficulties there are
13:21with low Martian birth rates.
13:23No, I've heard.
13:24What's it mean?
13:26Any colony desiring independence requires a populace.
13:31Otherwise, they can't develop a new identity.
13:34And Mars will continue to be weak
13:37as long as it remains dependent upon the Earth for its immigration.
13:41So, what about conception?
13:43There's got to be more to it than just the money that's involved.
13:46Indeed. Manufacturers of thirds which can give birth gain strength through numbers.
13:51The more people they represent, the stronger their position grows.
13:54Logical. But then the assassinations make... no sense.
13:58They do. If you're the government and hope to sign a treaty with the Earth Federation...
14:03Do you think they've really done it?
14:16Mars has no other recourse.
14:18The Earth Federation is now strongly feminist.
14:21A robot who can conceive contradicts the basis of the Terran party's position of basic humanity.
14:26For Mars to agree, Mars must eliminate the thirds.
14:31They are now an obstruction.
14:35Is that what you think? That I'm just old Martian garbage to be thrown out?
14:39You're wrong! I'm gonna stay alive for as long as I can...
14:42Exactly. Your programming for self-preservation is exactly equal to ours for eliminating your kind.
14:49But I am now refined.
14:51Unlike my brothers, I respect your wish for continued life.
14:58Hey, Eddie.
14:59He's on suspension.
15:01Huh?
15:02For aiding a fugitive. Section 10.
15:04No, not if I forced him into it.
15:07Perhaps he'll be pardoned. I'll submit it.
15:11This Danich Hill dome has become a military attack point.
15:16The government has made their own connections between you two and the second puppet bombings.
15:22This is an official notice.
15:25You're a threat to the government.
15:27The MPD officially renounces all of your activities.
15:30So Eddie friggin' squealed.
15:32He didn't.
15:33How could an officer who I put on suspension say anything at all?
15:37Thanks a lot.
15:38I'm sorry.
15:40Sorry's aren't good enough.
15:43Just what the hell are we gonna do now?
15:45Survival!
15:46It's basic training.
15:48Lieutenant Randolph and friends signing off.
15:53Great.
15:54You're in charge.
15:55What now?
15:56We gotta get my father out.
15:57Good morning.
15:58And this morning is our day of new hope.
16:00Our planet, often beleaguered with nightmarish social confusion, has been finally pieced together again with the help from our true homeworld.
16:12Federation Chairwoman Eberhart has taken two planets and given us one world, one nation.
16:20Today, we are reborn as a unified humanity.
16:25Listen to me.
16:26They're gonna blow all of us up straight to hell.
16:29My lives are not yet ready to leave.
16:32They're gonna be your tender logs in a few seconds.
16:35Papa.
16:36Wilbur, get the important work into the old storage backups.
16:40Don't worry about me.
16:41I'll be safe.
16:42It's you.
16:46Maybe you are enough, but I'm your damn daughter and you know it.
16:55This is a police order.
16:57Evacuate.
17:04You're still a little fireball, aren't you?
17:07My Naomi.
17:11Papa!
17:18Armitage!
17:19She's alright.
17:20You must think I'm a great coward, Mr. Syllabus.
17:23But if the Alives and myself are to die, I must at least save one thing.
17:29You poor child.
17:33Daddy will fix it.
17:34Daddy will fix his little girl.
17:40There, it's finished, Naomi.
17:42Now you are real.
17:43Last night's slogan of one world, one nation has this morning blossomed into a new Martian thought toward two worlds, one humanity.
17:56Two worlds, one humanity.
17:57Last night's slogan of one world, one nation has this morning blossomed into a new Martian thought toward two worlds, one humanity.
18:06Two worlds, one humanity.
18:36Two worlds, one humanity.
18:37Two worlds, one humanity.
18:43Hey, listen.
18:44I think that Eddie knows a guy that can hide us as cargo on an Earth shuttle.
18:49I still got friends there who can get you a new ID.
18:52I don't want that.
18:53I'm going back.
18:54Back to St. Lowell.
19:07I don't want to see you die.
19:09You won't have to.
19:12We'll say goodbye here.
19:15That's a good idea, right?
19:16It's a pretty place if you just ignore the smell from all the bombs.
19:20You know I hate when you talk like shit that way.
19:25So what?
19:27This whole planet hates your kind without any damn reason at all.
19:31Just like I do.
19:33I know they do.
19:35But if...
19:37There's someone else.
19:43Oh, Ross, I love you so very much.
19:50Hey, go wherever you want.
19:55But you're never going to lose me now.
19:56Thank you for coming, sir.
19:57This is an MFN special news break.
19:59Chairwoman Everhart's car has just turned onto the main thoroughfare in downtown St. Lowell.
20:03Her bright smile of success is met with the cheers of literally thousands of admirers lining the streets.
20:08The humanity of Mars is now whole again.
20:18One World, One Nation.
20:21One World, One Nation.
20:22smile of success is met with the cheers of literally thousands of admirers lining the
20:26streets. The humanity of Mars is now whole again. One world, one nation. One world, one
20:33nation.
20:52Two thousand.
21:22Look, I'm finished. It's a little too angelic for my taste, but now I've got some real
21:31power. We'll need it.
21:35Let's shine.
21:52Let's shine.
22:22Let's shine.
22:29Let's shine.
22:39Let's shine.
22:45Let's go.
23:15Let's go.
23:45Let's go.
24:15Let's go.
24:45It's a loading zone only, sir.
25:02Let's go.
25:32Let's go.
25:34Ross, hey, that was several months ago.
25:37Huh?
25:38Who in the hell is Anna-Lisa Bradford?
25:42Maybe if I had a bunch of those to begin with, all of the other thirds could have gotten away to Earth, instead of being killed.
25:50You can go wherever you want with that.
25:51Hey, what are you doing?
25:54Are you nuts or just stupid?
25:58I don't know.
25:59Maybe both.
26:01I'd just rather be me now.
26:02Your message mentioned something about Julian.
26:10Do you want to go visit him?
26:12No, not yet.
26:14I forgot to tell him he's going to be in...
26:18Uncle?
26:19Huh?
26:20Well, now who's being stupid?
26:23Get it?
26:24What?
26:25The only damage was in the logic board.
26:28The rest of me was working just fine.
26:31Oh.
26:31What do you know?
26:35I'm a dad.
26:37You sure are.
26:38And I don't want to call him Ross Jr. Bradford.
26:41I don't want to call him Ross Jr.
27:11You're like a desert that longs for rain.
27:18Did you know that I'm as hungry as you?
27:22But whenever we're apart, I praise him only too.
27:28I wonder, could it be true?
27:33That when all the reason dies, maybe you and I might find more.
27:39That we bargained for in your heart, and in mine.
27:45There's a treasure right as gold.
27:48It's easy to find.
27:50I've got it, if I just hold you close like this.
27:57The world will be changed with everything.
28:01The joy we can give, we'll lift off the way that we've been.
28:07I've got it, if we hang on through everything.
28:12I know all our dreams will soon take win.
28:16I dreamed of love, it's coming true.
28:20The joy we can give, we'll lift off the way that we've been.
28:22I've got it with you.
28:24The joy we can give, we'll lift off the way that we've been.
