These have long been the images we’ve seen from the surface of Mars, massive unrelenting deserts as far as the eye… or rather rover’s instrumentation can see. However, researchers with the European Space Agency have just made an enormous discovery as they have found a considerable amount of water ice on the red planet.

00:08as far as the eye or rather the rovers cameras can see however researchers with the european
00:13space agency have just made an enormous discovery as they have found a considerable amount of water
00:19ice on the red planet the find was made via a radar survey of the medusae fossae formation
00:24an area of the martian equator this is the most water ever discovered in the equatorial region
00:29so how much is there experts say they found a similar amount of ice as there is in the entire
00:34red sea they add that if brought to the surface there's enough water to cover the entirety of mars
00:40to a depth of around five to nine feet despite knowing something was going on under the surface
00:44in the region since 2007 this discovery was made possible due to new advances in radar technology
00:50while this find is significant the water ice buried on mars won't be of any help to future human missions
00:55there as it's buried hundreds of meters below the surface however it does raise hopes about finding
01:00more water ice or otherwise still the search remains on for liquid water on the red planet
01:05as this is believed to be an integral aspect when looking for living alien life
