00:00And let's go now live to Trinidad and Tobago with political analyst Dered Rasmuch to know
00:07more about this electoral date. Welcome, Dered, to From the South.
00:14Thank you very much for the invitation, Anna.
00:17Thank you for being here with us. Well, let's start with the interview.
00:21Can you tell us how was the electoral environmental there in Trinidad and Tobago, please?
00:26The environment was exciting. It was full of people's activity. There was the utilization of
00:39a lot of music, a lot of political speeches, and the utilization of artificial intelligence
00:47as a strategy to mobilize the young people to come out and vote.
00:53It was for a period of 35-odd days, and there were many meetings throughout the country.
01:01Thanks for that. And also, can you tell us how was the voter turnout of the people
01:10of voting for these parliamentary elections?
01:13It was an election for 45 members of parliament. That is the individuals who make up our parliament,
01:24of which one shall be selected as prime minister. You have a very rigorous campaign in which different
01:34political leaders sought to give direction to the future of Trinidad and Tobago and its economy
01:44as it dealt with the gas economy, the energy economy, and what was needed for people to have a better quality life.
01:55Yeah. And how these parliamentary elections will benefit the island? Because, as we know, the people will elect the parliament,
02:06and then the parliament will be the responsible to elect the prime minister.
02:11Yes, you are very correct. And what is important is that people are looking for a new economic direction because of the geopolitics in the world,
02:25where Donald Trump has certain economic policies, and because of the attempt to diversify the economy,
02:34both within the energy sector, as well as perhaps in trade matters and agriculture,
02:41and more regional trade, these were the points that were being considered by the undecided voters.
02:50Thank you very much, Studer, for being here with us from the south.
