Germany's incoming Chancellor Friedrich Merz announces cabinet posts

Seven ministries will go to the CDU, seven to the SPD and three to the CSU. It is now clear who the CDU and CSU want to send to the cabinet as ministers.

00:01Friedrich Merz is closer to becoming German Chancellor,
00:04after a CDU party approved a coalition deal with the Social Democrats on Monday.
00:09The agreement now needs approval from the Social Democrat Party members,
00:12with results expected on Wednesday.
00:15Representing around 12 percent of its members,
00:18the SPD Youth Group has come out forcefully against the agreement,
00:21particularly objecting to its strict migration measures and social policy concerns.
00:26If the SPD agrees to join the coalition,
00:29Parliament will vote on electing Merz as Chancellor on May 6th.
00:34The planned coalition aims to boost the economy and defence,
00:37but holds a slim majority.
00:40If elected by Parliament,
00:42Merz will become the tenth post-war German Chancellor
00:45and his party will get seven out of 17 members of the Cabinet.
00:50The SPD will also get seven ministerial positions
00:53and the remaining three will go to CSU.
