Cardiff relegated as Wrexham gain promotion

Welsh football has been a whirlwind for so many reasons over the last decade, and this season sums up both sides of the scale. Cardiff City suffer their worst season in decades and are relegated to League One; as Wrexham gain a third successive promotion, and are now just one league away from Premier League football. It’s a bitter pill to swallow for Bluebirds fans.

00:01It's been a disastrous season for Cardiff City. After flirting with relegation all season,

00:06a home draw against West Brom over the weekend sealed the Bluebirds' fate in League One next year.

00:11Nine wins all season, three managers and thousands of disappointed fans later,

00:16and Cardiff City find themselves in the third tier of English football for the first time since 2003

00:21when we won promotion to the old second division.

00:24Cardiff have been a consistent championship side for years,

00:27with a few flurries in the Premier League mixed in,

00:30but very few fans nowadays see the capital side as the third tier team.

00:34So promotion back into the championship next year will be a top priority for the side.

00:38Errol Bullets started the season as manager with very few positives,

00:42besides the draw away to Swansea City in August,

00:45and was promptly sacked at the end of September, winless on the season.

00:48Coach Omariza took over and went unbeaten in his first six games in charge

00:52and was handed a contract till the end of the season.

00:55And the lowest point of the year, besides relegation itself,

00:58is the 7-0 thrashing by rivals Leeds in February

01:01that might have been the final catalyst for Cardiff's demise.

01:04Aaron Ramsey was drafted in as manager with just three games to go,

01:07but it was all in vain.

01:10To top it all off this season, Wrexham, who were in non-league only two seasons ago,

01:14have been promoted in the other direction and will play championship football next year.

01:18Wrexham's season has been a polar opposite to Cardiff's and their fans across the world

01:23will be excited to see if their Hollywood story can continue into the Premier League next year.

01:28For Cardiff City to be sitting as the third team in Wales would have been unthinkable

01:32during those glory Premier League days just a few years ago,

01:35but League One awaits and Aaron Ramsey's side will need all the support in the world

01:39to make it back to the second tier.
