Morgan Luttrell Promotes Bill To Ensure DHS Conducts An Assessment Of 'Terrorist Threats' From Syria

At a House Homeland Security Committee hearing on Thursday, Rep. Morgan Luttrell (R-TX) spoke about his legislation on Syria.

00:10I'd also like to thank Mr. Correa for working alongside me on this piece of legislation.

00:15The last few months have shed light on the political uncertainty Syria is currently faced with.

00:19The region remains volatile and has become a breeding ground for violent extremist groups.

00:23The instability has allowed terrorist organizations to establish footholds,

00:26exacerbating national security challenges.

00:28The malign groups are using every tool at their disposal and sending bad actors our way.

00:33The Syrian Terrorism Threat Assessment Act ensures the Department of Homeland Security

00:37conducts an assessment of terrorist threats to the United States posed by individuals in Syria

00:41with an affiliation to a foreign terrorist organization or a specially designated global terrorist organization.

00:48By doing so, we can better examine and mitigate emerging threats from these regions.

00:53Foreign jihadist networks and other extremist groups are actively exploiting online platforms

00:57and other means to remotely radicalize and mobilize individuals to help plan

01:01and carry out terrorist attacks on American soil.
