Borrow Cup launches in Glasgow

A reusable cup scheme, the first of its kind in the UK, launches in Glasgow.

00:00Bottle Cup is a new returnable cup scheme that's launched in Glasgow.

00:03At over 40 locations across the city for hot drinks you can now opt for a reusable bottle cup.

00:08It takes a £1 deposit and you can return the cup later for your money back or swap it for a new one

00:13when you get your next drink. You can also swap it for a £1 e-voucher. It is available at

00:19participating shops across the city including Cafe Nero, Costa, Tinderbox and Sprig. There is a map

00:26that lists all the locations if you type Bottle Cup to Google. The aim of this scheme is obviously to

00:32reduce waste. In Scotland over 388 million disposable cups are used each year and they make up more than

00:3930% of drinks waste on street bins. Most of us own a reusable cup but not that many of us use them

00:46regularly. I have one myself, the issue is I don't want to carry it around with me all day or I don't

00:52anticipate that I'm even out to get a coffee. However, disposable cups are terrible for the

00:57environment, from the production process to throwing them away. They use resources and create

01:01carbon emissions, much more so than a reusable object. This is a really convenient way to reduce

01:07your own carbon footprint without having to put in too much effort. The whole project is led by the

01:13Scottish environmental charity Hubbub and the reused startup Reposit. I've seen schemes like this already

01:20happening in cities across Europe and it's just a habit for them now, they're used to it. It was

01:25really easy to do, no hassle, I just dropped the cup back off at another participant, it reduced my carbon

01:31footprint and reduces litter on the street. If you'd like to get involved or are looking for more
