00:30It really caught me because it was his parent who took his life.

00:36He is a very good kid, very playful and lovely.

00:40These two people murdered this child. How did this come to be?

00:44How did a child who had so many signs of repeated and long-term abuse slip to the cracks?

00:51It really wasn't until I got all of the evidence that I realized how egregious the case was.

00:57This was a story that could not be ignored.

01:00The question was, could we uncover what was really going on?

01:04The Department of Children and Family Services had significant involvement in this case.

01:08Board of Supervisors have now taken notice. There's something about this kid's death.

01:13There was no medical follow-up, even to the injuries that were acknowledged by the Department.

01:20You're thinking about in your head, how could this be true?

01:23As prosecutors, we need to up our game.

01:26She didn't just prosecute the mother and her boyfriend.

01:28She also took the step of prosecuting the four social workers.

01:31They had a job, and their job was to save a little boy.

01:35The system is overtaxed.

01:36The most children I had was about 280.

01:39I did not commit a crime.

01:42When the details came out of how this poor child was tortured and all of these people knew,

01:48I think it shook the county to the core.

01:51Deuropacies tend to function to preserve the institution at all costs.

01:54The system has this enormous power.

01:58There are those who think that by not talking, you can limit the bad publicity.

02:02I believe the ultimate evil is seeing what's wrong.

02:06And looking away when you have a power to make the difference.

02:10That is true evil.
