Lee Barron speaks about the giant Corby warehouse legal fees in parliament

00:00Thank you Madam Deputy Speaker. In Corby residents of Hook Close were denied the

00:05chance to object to plans for a huge warehouse to be built immediately next

00:09to their homes and now they live within its shadow. This was due to admitted

00:14failures by North Northamptonshire council including consulting the wrong

00:18street. Residents took the matter to court, the judge criticised the council

00:23however the case had to be ruled out because it was out of time. Now the

00:28council who didn't consult the residents, who consulted the wrong streets, where the

00:33judge criticised is pursuing £5,000 in legal costs from the very people it

00:38failed. Does my right honourable friend agree that authorities should be held

00:42accountable when serious consultation failures occur and that residents

00:46should not be financially penalised as a result of the incompetence of the

00:49consultation? Well this sounds like a troubling case in his constituency. He's

00:54absolutely right that high quality consultations for developments is

00:58imperative and it doesn't sound like that happened and proper procedures were

01:02followed in this case and I will certainly raise that with ministers for him.
