Snow White is a 1916 American silent romantic fantasy film directed by J. Searle Dawley. Based on Winthrop Ames’ 1912 Broadway play, which was itself adapted from the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, the film stars Marguerite Clark, reprising her stage role as Snow White. The story follows the young princess as she is forced into servitude by the jealous Queen Brangomar, who plots to have her killed. With the help of the seven dwarfs, Snow White escapes and ultimately finds happiness with Prince Florimond. This film is notable for its early fairy tale adaptation, and it reportedly inspired Walt Disney to create his own animated version in 1937.
