During a town hall on Tuesday, Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) was asked about 'reasonable Republicans' in government that Democrats can work with.
Transcript
00:00Are there any reasonable republicans in government representing the people?
00:08Then my other question is, will Congress take back their power?
00:17Yes.
00:19Great question.
00:50This morning.
00:55And so I'm going to answer it the way she told me to answer it.
00:58She didn't like the way I've been answering questions like that.
01:03Quite frankly, we have got to do a better job of electing Democrats.
01:14That's what we've got to do.
01:16Because for some strange reason, too many of my Republican colleagues have decided to hand over the power of the purse to the president.
01:29And our Constitution is very clear.
01:33The power of the purse is in the hand of the Congress of the United States.
01:42And for some reason, this president is using some emergency authority to do things.
01:52That the Constitution will not allow him to do.
01:58Quite frankly, if you look at some of the stuff that he's advocating, he's treating this as if we are operating under martial law.
02:08And we're not.
02:10And we're not.
02:10We're operating under regular order.
02:15And so what he is a tickling to himself.
02:19And they are acquiescing because we don't have the 213 votes.
02:25But you need 218.
02:30We're five votes short.
02:33And so you've got to do a better job of doing that.
02:39And yes, there are some Republicans that can reach out to.
02:45But as I said, it's got to be on a case-by-case basis.
02:48As friends, I think Congressman Bacon from, I think, Nebraska has spoken out today or yesterday about what's going on at the Department of Defense with her son.
03:05Now, he has gone public.
03:07And I think there will be other.
