You know what I mean? Joey. Yes, hello. Hey, what's up, man? Hi, Joey. What's going on, guys? How are you?
00:07
Good. So you were at the game and you saw the altercation that happened?
00:12
Yeah, I was about three rows in front of where the guy was originally sitting.
00:16
Oh, my God. The victim. Yeah, and what was it? How did it start? Like, walk us through it.
00:22
So throughout the game, there had been a lot of back and forth between some fans in the same row as section over.
00:27
And I think security had come up a few times.
00:31
And at that point, security was already on their way, I think, probably to, I'd say, the third time in the game.
00:38
And at that point, the guy just stood up and walked past security, the guy that ended up passing away.
00:43
He walked right into the section next to us.
00:47
And it was hard to tell at first. It looked like a lot of people were trying to pull him apart more than people were actually fighting.
00:53
So I think people were getting in between them.
00:55
And then finally, one guy in a dolphin shirt kind of just walked over and reached over everybody, punched him twice.
01:02
And then the guy kind of just unfortunately fell back into his face and never seen consciousness.
01:07
Do you know what the arguments were about in the section you're talking about?
01:14
I think it was more just sports team related.
01:17
And then, like you said, as the night went on, it was the Sunday night football game at Gillette.
01:21
And everybody's drinking. You know what I mean? We've been there drinking since one in the afternoon.
01:26
So it was basically like Dolphins fans talking trash to Patriots fans and vice versa and stuff like that.
01:33
Yeah, it really, it was nothing out of the ordinary that you don't, you see it every Sunday on any, you know what I mean, social media platform.
01:40
There's always fights in the sand.
01:41
And I think what happened was the gentleman just had a heart attack, probably had an un-diagnosed heart condition.
01:48
Well, we don't know that, so.
01:50
Yeah.
01:51
So I think it was just he shouldn't have been involving himself in the fight, not that any of us should.
01:57
But I think the heart attack is what got him more than the actual altercations.
02:03
I'm sure that's what caused it.
02:04
But it was sad to see.
02:06
It was definitely not what you go to Gillette to witness.
02:08
By the way, we're talking to Joey, who was, he witnessed the fight where the Patriots fan died at Gillette on Sunday night.
02:16
What happened now?
02:17
Because I saw the video that you sent.
02:18
It's the one that you, yours is a video that they're showing on TV and stuff like that, right?
02:23
Yeah, I actually, I'm not giving anybody permission to release the full video.
02:27
They've released some screenshots.
02:28
But I just don't want the family to have to see that.
02:31
Right.
02:32
That's good.
02:32
That's smart.
02:33
Yeah.
02:33
So, but what, do they have the, because on the video, you see the guy who hits him and stuff.
02:39
Did they catch him or are they still looking for the team?
02:41
They took him, immediately they took him into custody.
02:45
I'm not sure of, I've seen no charges are being filed immediately.
02:49
From what I've been told, that's mostly because the autopsy needs to be completed first.
02:54
Yeah.
02:55
But I do believe that, I know they took him into custody.
02:59
I don't have an update on if they kept him or held him or anything like that.
03:03
I'm sure that's like public record.
03:04
But he was taken immediately into custody by the police.
03:08
So what was your involvement?
03:10
You know, I see that you had talked to a couple of news stations.
03:14
When the fight was over, were you, did you talk to the police?
03:19
Were you brought in for questioning and all that?
03:21
Like, did they confiscate your video?
03:24
Yeah.
03:24
A cop had, he was kind of doing crowd control.
03:27
There was like four cops in the area.
03:29
And I had just thought to say to a cop, like, I do have a clear video of what happened.
03:33
And he just asked me to see the video.
03:36
And then as soon as I showed him the video, he radioed to his supervisor.
03:40
And then two Foxborough cops came up and took me into, they have like a room set off to the side.
03:45
So I was there until about one in the morning.
03:48
How many people were, how many people were asked to be witnesses?
03:51
Were people volunteering?
03:52
Were they asking for people?
03:55
So there was, there was only about five other people that they had taken statements from that I had seen in the same room.
04:02
But I think my video was the clearest.
04:05
I was held the longest.
04:07
So.
04:08
Yeah.
04:08
I think you can, you know, like, like we said earlier, he did send us the video and I think it, it was pretty clear.
04:14
You could see everything that happened.
04:17
Yeah.
04:17
So.
04:18
Yeah.
04:18
It was, it was unfortunate.
04:20
I didn't plan on filming anybody's murder or death.
04:23
I should say more than murder.
04:25
Cause like, I don't think anybody was going into the fight with the intentions of it going that far, which is also a shame.
04:31
You know what I mean?
04:31
And somebody is most likely going to face a manslaughter charge over this.
04:35
And that was never his intention.
04:36
And that's the crazy part about this.
04:38
Like you said, that wasn't the dude's intention, but that's why people got to think.
04:41
And listen, this is coming from me.
04:43
I have done, I have a laundry list of stupid things that I have done when I've been drunk.
04:49
A laundry list.
04:50
So me saying this should mean a lot.
04:52
You people, you need to, when you go to games, think, think a couple of steps ahead when you get stupid and drunk and get heated at somebody.
04:59
Think about how things could go wrong because this right here is the ultimate situation of something going wrong.
05:04
You know what I'm saying?
05:05
So you just got to think about it.
05:06
It's ultimately, it's you watching dudes in a Jersey that for some reason you decided to root for playing a game.
05:15
Yeah.
05:15
There's nothing worse what happened.
05:17
Not at all.
05:18
Just unfortunate tragedy.
05:20
Obviously, our thoughts and prayers go out to, you know, the man who passed because it's just an unfortunate situation all the way around.
05:27
Yeah.
05:28
Absolutely.
05:28
I've had some of his friends reach out to me.
05:30
He seemed like a really good guy.
05:32
I mean, like you said, we all have terrible decisions we've made when we're drunk.
05:36
And you just got to be careful.
05:38
And nothing is worth it.
05:39
No sports team or really anything at all is worth it.
05:42
He paid the ultimate price.
05:43
All right.
05:44
Well, Joey, thank you for reaching out to us and giving us a call, my friend.
05:48
No problem.
05:48
You guys have a good morning.
05:49
Thanks, Joey.
05:50
All right, you too.
05:50
That's Joey.
05:51
He was the witness to when the guy passed away.
05:53
Awful.
05:54
Awful.
05:54
It's tough, man.
05:55
It's tough, you know?
05:56
And I don't know.
05:59
I just, I've never been, I don't like fights.
06:02
And it's for that reason.
06:03
Like, you just don't know, Romero.
06:05
Like you said, you don't know what could be something as innocent as you trying to defend yourself.
06:10
It just could be leave someone and it just could be tragic.
06:14
Well, there's a difference between defending yourself and getting into a stupid drunk fight.
06:18
No, I know.
06:18
You're right.
06:19
You know what I'm saying?
06:19
And I know once you get to a point where you're so drunk, you're not thinking about it.
06:22
But you know what?
06:23
Maybe don't get that drunk then.
06:24
Because ultimately, this is like a lesson.
06:26
Don't get that stupid.
06:27
And again, this is coming from me.
06:29
I know.
06:29
I was about to say, like, back in the day, if somebody had told you Romero.
06:33
I know.
06:33
So...
06:33
I know.
06:37
I know.
