00:00The End
00:30Oh, my God.
01:00Um, Uncle Hal, why don't Santa Claus be here?
01:02Yeah.
01:03We're sure awfully tired.
01:06Well, I'm afraid he isn't going to come until after you're in bed and sound asleep, kids.
01:10And it's just about time you kids were in bed anyhow.
01:14Will you tell us the story first?
01:16Yeah, a Christmas story.
01:17I want to hear about me and Mr. Six.
01:19I'll hear about the little Santa Claus.
01:22Well, wait a minute, wait a minute.
01:24I'll tell you what.
01:25How would you like to hear a brand new, never-before-told story of Christmas?
01:30A story that no one ever heard?
01:34That's right.
01:35Now, that actually happened to me when I was a forest ranger in Yellowstone National Park.
01:41That was many years back.
01:43Say, you climb up here in my lap and I'll tell you all about it.
01:48Here you go.
01:50Oh, boy, a new Christmas story.
01:52That's right.
01:53A brand new Christmas story.
02:01Wintertime, it's the oncoming season.
02:08Summertime has long since disappeared.
02:13In the air, there's a chill and a shiver.
02:37Everyone's gone, learn up in the cold.
02:48Nature's came, oh, ready for winter.
02:55From the ice and snow we can hide, while it's clear and cold outside.
03:03When winter comes, for everyone.
03:08I suppose old Nana the bear and her cubs are about bedded down for the winter.
03:33Yoo-hoo!
03:34Anyone home?
03:35Hiya, Mr. Ranger.
03:37Hey, Mom, Mr. Ranger's here.
03:40Whoops!
03:41Hey, look out!
03:45Whoops!
03:47Sorry, Mr. Ranger.
03:49Oh, that's all right, kid.
03:51I'm used to an unusual welcome around here.
03:54About ready to call it a season, Nana?
03:57Oh, that's for sure.
04:00I was just about to cut the cubs in for the winter.
04:04Oh, we don't want to go to bed.
04:08Typical kids.
04:10Yep.
04:10We're not worth a darn without a good four-month sleep.
04:15Oh, hope my lumbago doesn't act up this winter.
04:18I guess Middle Age is creeping up on you.
04:23So long.
04:24Have a pleasant winter.
04:26Goodbye, Mr. Ranger.
04:28Oh, Chinook, Nakomi, come on in.
04:31It's hibernation time.
04:33Coming, Mom.
04:34So long, Mr. Ranger.
04:37Oh, Nakomi!
04:39Chinook!
04:41Coming, Mom!
04:42It sure looks like it's gone to snow.
04:45Oh, my God.
05:15The first snowfall of the winter.
05:17It's almost that time of the year again.
05:23Sleigh bells and snowmen?
05:26Yep, soon it'll be Christmas Day.
05:32Oh, which reminds me about time I went out
05:35and cut me down a fine Christmas tree.
05:39There's something wonderful about this time of the year.
05:42It makes a man feel good about living.
05:47Warms him up deep down inside and all over.
05:53Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells,
05:56you're all the way.
06:03Who wants to sleep when it's snowy all over everything?
06:08Nekomi, Sanuk, are you kids coming to bed?
06:12In a minute, Mom.
06:14Look, Sanuk, it's Mr. Ranger.
06:21I wonder what he's doing out in the snow.
06:24Let's go find out.
06:27Hey, this one's perfect.
06:38About the right size and height, too.
06:48What the?
06:50Oh, my.
07:07We're awfully sorry, Mr. Ranger, sir.
07:11W-w-w-what happened?
07:13Uh, well, we kind of got all snowballed up.
07:18Nekomi and Sanuk, I might have known.
07:21You cubs get into everything, even snowballs.
07:25Say, you kids had better get home and start hibernating.
07:29You know how your mom is.
07:30She can be a real bear when she's angry.
07:34Look, I made her funny.
07:35Now, stand back, kids.
07:43What you gonna do with that ass?
07:46What?
07:47I'm gonna cut down this Christmas tree.
07:49What's a Christmas tree?
07:53And what's a Christmas?
07:56Oh, Christmas is, well, uh,
07:58Christmas is a time for good cheer.
08:02Singing carols and exchanging gifts.
08:04Everyone is mumbling and happy.
08:08People are at their best around Christmas time.
08:13Sounds like fun.
08:15How come we never had a Christmas?
08:18Oh, well, I suppose it's because you're bears,
08:22and bears hibernate through Christmas.
08:27Timber!
08:34What else happened to that Christmas tree, Mr. Ranger?
08:46Oh, lots of wonderful things.
08:47Marshmallow rose,
08:48dancing around a warm fireplace,
08:50playing games.
08:52Well, it's been nice,
08:54but you better be getting home
08:55before your mom misses you.
08:56You know,
08:59you call me?
09:00Will you please come home?
09:02We must get some sleep.
09:05Coming, Mom.
09:06Coming, Mom.
09:06Let's ask her about Christmas.
09:26Hey, Mom, wake up.
09:27We want to talk to you.
09:36Oh, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I don't know.
09:39Tell us about Christmas, please.
09:42Huh, Mom?
09:43Huh?
09:45What's the Christmas?
09:47You know, presents and candy
09:49and lots of goodies.
09:51Uh, well, I really don't think I know much about it.
10:02Aw, come on, Mom.
10:04Mr. Ranger told us this was the best time of the year.
10:07Why, of course it is, children.
10:10That's when we get our sleeves.
10:13Quick! Grab her!
10:15It's no use.
10:16She's out like a lion.
10:18Oh, maybe Mr. Ranger has a Christmas and a gift house that we can see.
10:23Come on!
10:36Wintertime, time together, together.
10:41Wintertime, time together, boys and girls, small and warm by the fire.
10:53Icicles, whistling with temple weather.
10:59Wintertime, time together, wintertime, it's a holiday season.
11:16Wintertime, time together, wintertime.
11:18Mom and dad, joining in with the fire.
11:24Storm, the sky, can't give us no reason.
11:32Wintertime, time together, wintertime.
11:36From winter's cold we get high, as the sleigh and morning shine.
11:43It's wintertime, for everyone.
11:49Winter time, it's a holiday season
12:03Mom and dad, joining in with the wild
12:11Stormy skies can give us no reason
12:21Of winter's cold weekend night
12:26As we're safe and warm inside
12:30It's winter time for everyone
12:36Let's take the shortcut
12:51We can cut across the lake
12:53It's frozen over
12:55You're slippery-ish
12:58Yikes, how do you stop?
13:06Let's go!
13:13Come on, Chinook
13:14Mr. Ranger's cabin is just over the hill
13:23Golly, look
13:25Look what Mr. Ranger did to his tree
13:34It's beautiful
13:42And he's fixing his cabin up
13:44With all kinds of pretty decorations
13:48Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way
14:01Bless my hat band
14:03I just get all choked up at Christmas
14:07Oh hi, Nakomi and Chinook
14:11Nakomi and Chinook?
14:13But they're in hibernation
14:16I think
14:17What on earth are you cubs doing here?
14:20We came to hear all about the Christmas fun
14:23Everyone has while us bears are sleeping
14:26Look, look at the tree
14:29And look at the presents
14:31Oh boy, shiny balls and sparkly stuff
14:35Wait you two
14:40Hey, stay out of my decorations, please
14:44Yippee!
14:45Yahoo!
14:46Hooray for Christmas!
14:49Now kids, try to control yourselves
14:52Hey Chinook!
14:53Look over here
14:54Little white tasty looking mushy things
14:58Bet they taste just grummy
15:02As a matter of fact they do
15:04That's just one Chinook
15:07Me too Mr. Ranger?
15:08Of course
15:13Really, you cubs should be home
15:15Your mother will be worried sick
15:17But we want to hear all about Christmas
15:21Yeah, we never had one of them
15:24Tell us about it Mr. Ranger
15:27Please, huh?
15:29Pretty please?
15:30With honey on it?
15:31Well, now
15:33Wait a minute kids
15:35I...
15:37Oh
15:39Tell you what
15:40If I let you in on the story of Christmas
15:42Will you promise to go home?
15:45We promise!
15:46Cross our hearts!
15:48Okay, fine
15:50Well, let's see
15:52It all began a very long time ago
15:57Something very wonderful happened
16:00The little child was born to the family of Mary and Joseph
16:05In a place called Bethlehem
16:07Is that in Yellowstone Park?
16:09Oh no, it's far, far away
16:12Well anyway, this little child brought a gift to the world of peace on earth and good will toward men
16:19And even to this day, people still give presents on this child's birthday, which we call Christmas
16:28And over the years, many legends built up around Christmas
16:33What kind of legend?
16:35Oh, I guess the most famous one is the story of Santa Claus
16:39What's a Santa Claus?
16:41Can we eat it?
16:43Oh no, no
16:45Here, maybe I can explain it to you more easily with a pencil and paper
16:51First of all, this is where we live
16:56It's called the world
16:59You mean it's round?
17:01That's right
17:03And at the very top is a place known as the North Pole
17:07And this is where a little old man with a belly that shakes like a bowl full of jelly lives all year long
17:15With his eight reindeer and many, many little helpers called elves
17:21What do the elves do up there?
17:23Well, it's said they walk all year long making toys for Santa Claus to deliver to children all over the world on Christmas Eve
17:30At the top of the world, in a land white with snow, live a kind of toy people that only children know
17:51Stratton toy soldiers and toy puppy dogs
17:57Tiny toy dolls dressed in story books
18:05Both the duck ponies and stuffed teddy bears
18:12Toy bunny rabbits with long furry ears
18:18They all live together
18:29At the northernmost pole
18:33Happy and cheery as old Mary Keiko
18:39Candy striped monkeys
18:42And purring toy tigers
18:45Cream-colored camels
18:49And toy camel riders
18:53Luffy toy kittens
18:56And wooly toy lambs
19:00Toy elephant legs
19:03By a marching toy bear
19:05Toy toy bear
19:06There are three lands of life
19:17At both you and us
19:20The world of joy people
19:24Sing through
19:26Children's eyes
19:28And so, with Santa on his way, kids everywhere wait happily for Christmas stockings filled with goodies
19:50Gee, what a beautiful, pretty story
19:56Well, you cubs better be getting on home
20:00Oh, thank you, Mr. Ranger
20:03That was a terrific story
20:05Good
20:07Now, run along home, kids
20:08Bye, Mr. Ranger
20:20Bye, see you next spring
20:27Cute little kids, those two
20:34Maybe Mom will let us have a Christmas
20:36Little Christmas
20:38She might even let us stay up until Santa Claus comes
20:41Because she has some real nice and sugary
20:59Hey, look!
21:01See what I see?
21:03Oh, boy!
21:04A beautiful little Christmas tree
21:07Wow!
21:09Must be the prettiest one in Yellowstone Park
21:12Come on, let's take it home
21:20But how?
21:22It won't take loose
21:24Maybe we can break it off
21:35Keep tugging, Mekomi
21:37Think it's gonna snap
21:38It's gonna snap
22:00Oh, it's too big a tree
22:02You mean we're too little
22:04You mean we're too little
22:06What's a Christmas without a Christmas tree?
22:10Hey, wait!
22:12Mom could break that tree off in two seconds
22:15Come on, Chinook!
22:33Wake up!
22:35Wake up!
22:36Yoo-hoo, Mom!
22:38Hey, Mom, wake up!
22:40What is it?
22:41Avalanche?
22:42A forest fire?
22:43What?
22:45Can we have a Christmas tree, Mom?
22:47A what?
22:48You know, a Christmas tree like Mr. Ranger has
22:52Ah, listen, children
22:54I hate to be angry
22:56But you should've been asleep weeks ago
22:59But, Mom, just one pinky little Christmas tree
23:03Please, Mom!
23:05I'm sorry
23:07It's almost a month past your bedtime already
23:10How?
23:11Mom!
23:14Oh, all right
23:16But you must promise to remain in the cave for the rest of the winter
23:21We promise, Mom!
23:23We do! We do!
23:25Yippee!
23:26We're gonna have a tree!
23:28Hooray!
23:29We found a beauty just down the slope, Mom!
23:32I'm going, I'm going
23:35Problems of motherhood
23:37I've got a feeling it's gonna be a long winter
23:41Whoopee!
23:43Well, let's get the old cave ready for our Christmas tree
23:49Ah, I guess this is the tree the kids want
23:58Isn't it a true whoopee Christmas tree, Mom?
24:02I'm glad you're happy with it, kids
24:05Maybe now we can get some sleep, hmm?
24:07Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way
24:12Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh
24:16Yippee! Hooray for Christmas!
24:19We want Santa Claus!
24:21Now, now, listen, kids
24:23I don't want to spoil the fun
24:25But this noise simply cannot continue
24:28Just what is all this Christmas stuff all about, anyway?
24:33Oh, it's terrific, Mom!
24:35Yeah!
24:36A fat, jolly old man in a sled
24:39Is gonna bring us some presents
24:41Yeah!
24:43And this big old jelly shakes like a ball full of jelly!
24:48And he comes down the chimney and says,
24:51Ho, ho, ho!
24:53And how did you kids learn all about this?
24:56Mr. Ranger told us!
24:57Oh, he certainly can tell some whoppers
25:02Oh, no! It's true, Mom!
25:04And no matter what, we're gonna stay up until Christmas Eve!
25:09Oh, dear! And just when is this Christmas Eve?
25:15Well, uh, we don't know
25:18We sort of forgot to ask
25:21Great! It could be next July!
25:25We'll go ask Mr. Ranger, okay?
25:27Oh, no, you don't
25:29You cubs wait here
25:31I'll have a talk with that Mr. Ranger
25:34I'll find out all about this Christmas business
25:37Once and for all
25:41Do you think Christmas might be in July?
25:44I don't even know when July is!
25:55Ah, yes!
25:57Tis indeed the season to be jolly
25:59Uh-oh!
26:13Good heavens!
26:15There's a bear at the door!
26:18It's old Nana!
26:22Wake up, Nana!
26:26Uh-huh! What?
26:27Wake up!
26:30You're, uh, blocking my door, dear
26:33What are you doing here, anyhow?
26:36Oh, I just can't get any sleep
26:39With Nokomi and Chinook
26:41All excited over this thing called Christmas
26:44They're determined to stay up until Christmas Eve
26:47Whenever that is
26:49Oh, I see
26:52But it seems you're the only one who knows when that is
26:55Say, who is Santa Claus, with a bowl full of jelly and reindeer and all?
27:02Well, it's all sort of an old legend
27:07You mean it's not true?
27:11Have you been fibbing to my kids?
27:13Why, no, not exactly
27:17I thought you bears would be hibernating
27:20Now how can I hibernate with two cubs all excited over a Santa Claus who isn't even real?
27:28I don't mind losing a little sleep, but the kids will be so disappointed
27:32Well, maybe they won't have to be
27:38You know, I used to be an old department store Santa
27:43And I still have my old outfit packed away
27:46Why don't I just show up at your place on Christmas Eve
27:50Give a couple of ho-ho-hos, drop off a few goodies and
27:53And the cubs will have seen Santa and we can all bed down for the winter
27:59Oh, I just hope it works
28:03Or those cubs will be awfully sad and unhappy
28:07See you tomorrow night, Mr. Ranger
28:10Bye, Nana
28:12I'll be there
28:14You know, this might be fun
28:15Ought to be a real nice old-fashioned Christmas
28:34Oh, what a wonder of Christmas time
28:39Time's the happiest time of the year
28:46When children are waiting
28:50Intently debating
28:53If Santa will ever appear
28:58They're expecting a wonderful Christmas time
29:04And it's never so easy to see
29:10That the first sign of crisp wrinkle
29:15All hearts will be jingling
29:19Through his jolly more pride
29:23And the wonder of Christmas time
29:31The holiday season we know
29:35Oh, what a wonder of Christmas time
29:38The holiday season we know
29:40Oh, what a wonder of Christmas time
29:43The holiday season we know
29:47And isn't it fun just pretending you're one
29:52Of the kids as they play in the snow
29:55There'll be times when you think of this Christmas time
30:09Many years, many years from today
30:14And I hope you'll remember
30:19This day in December
30:21As one that is bold, yours and high
30:28Oh, to me it's the wonder
30:32The wonder of Christmas time
30:37It works very soon
30:38Hard.
30:43Yeah!
30:48Yes!
30:50floating wind
30:52Him
30:54But it was so isolated
30:56One day
30:58And it's odd
31:00Long' world
31:02A beast
31:03Ah, Christmas Eve at last.
31:11Time for old Santa to make his rounds.
31:15Say, I don't look half bad.
31:18I don't suppose the real Saint Nick would mind me standing in to bring a little Christmas
31:23cheer to Yellowstone National Park.
31:33I guess I've got everything, including a couple of stockings full of goodies for Chinook
31:41and Nekome.
31:42Those cubs are in for a real treat.
32:03Oh, why did tonight have to be the night for our worst blizzard in years?
32:19Mom, what do you suppose Santa will bring you?
32:37Oh, I sort of expect a good winter's rest.
32:42I sure wish Santa would hurry up.
32:46Yeah, I'm tired.
32:49Oh, I'm sure he'll be here soon, kids.
32:53Yeah, we don't want to fall asleep.
32:57Hey, Chinook, wake up, wake up.
33:01Do you want a missing Santa?
33:04Uh-uh.
33:04Remember, Santa is coming.
33:07I hope.
33:19It's no use.
33:21I've got to stop before I get snowed in.
33:26I've got to wait until this snowstorm passes.
33:28Gee, it's getting awful late.
33:44Is it stopped snowing, Mom?
33:48Not yet.
33:51Gosh, maybe Santa can't get through.
33:55Chinook, wake up.
33:57Oh, good.
34:03There's an old bus stop for summer visitors.
34:06At least it's got a roof.
34:08Oh, I'll wait out the storm in here.
34:16Phew.
34:16Where is Santa Claus?
34:19I can't stay awake much longer.
34:24I'm afraid I'll just have to tell them the sad truth, even if it hurts.
34:31Come here, children.
34:32Do you think Santa is coming, Mom?
34:37Shouldn't he have been here?
34:40Well, dears, I'm afraid not.
34:43Perhaps it's best you know the truth.
34:46Santa is only Mr. Ranger dressed up in a red suit and wearing a false beard.
34:53You mean there's no real Santa Claus?
34:57No, no, not exactly.
35:00It's, well, it's sort of just a nice old story that the Ranger told.
35:05But rather than disappoint you, he decided to dress up like this Santa Claus and visit you tonight.
35:12But I guess he can't get through because of the bad storm outside.
35:18I guess Christmas is for people, not bears.
35:22I'm sorry, kids.
35:25Gee, no Santa?
35:29Besides, well, we're all together in our warm cave.
35:34That's sort of nice, isn't it?
35:35So let's, let's all go to bed and we'll talk all about this in the spring.
35:42Good night, kids.
35:51Good night, little ones, and don't be fair.
35:59Leave away the trouble that you have had.
36:08Eyes shut, little ones, it's time for a dream.
36:16Through the starlit heavens and still the moon be.
36:24Leave, oh, sleep, little ones.
36:29Rest, you weary, mine.
36:35How best the day is dawning.
36:41Tomorrow you will find.
36:48Good night, little ones, and don't be sad.
36:58Sleep away the troubles that you have had.
37:07Eyes shut, little ones, it's time for dreams.
37:16Through the starlit heavens and still the moon be.
37:24Soft, silent and still the moon be.
37:26Soft, silent and deep.
37:31Dripped gently your winter sleep.
37:37Rain, the breeze, fresh and new are there waiting for you.
37:49Good night, little ones, good night.
37:55Good night, little ones.
37:57Good night, little ones.
37:59Good night, Mom.
38:11Good night.

38:35Ho, ho, ho.
38:40Ho, ho, ho.
38:43Great. Now he shows up.
38:47Oh, it's only Mr. Ranger dressed up like Santa Claus.
39:01And he's just trying to fool us.
39:04Ho, ho, ho, ho.
39:07Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
39:11He just wanted you to have a nice Christmas, kids.
39:17This is the worst Christmas I ever had.
39:20Even if it is the only one.
39:23Well, it's all over now, kids.
39:26Let's try to forget and get some sleep.
39:30Okay, Mom.
39:32Good night.
39:34Good night.
39:41Oh, dear. It's almost morning.
40:00Phew. At last the storm quit.
40:03I'd better get up to those bears. I'm way overdue.
40:11Oh, I just hope they're still waiting.
40:32Anyone home?
40:35Santa Claus is here.
40:37Ho, ho, ho.
40:38Merry Christmas.
40:41Merry Christmas, everyone.
40:43Ho, ho, ho.
40:48Hey, wake up.
40:50It's me, Santa Claus. Remember?
40:54Santa, but you were already here.
40:58I was. I mean, I wasn't.
41:01I just got here and I brought these stockings full of...
41:04Huh?
41:06Where did those other stockings come from?
41:09Didn't you bring them, Mr. Ranger?
41:13Well, no. I mean, I'm not a ranger.
41:17Oh, you know.
41:19Uh, but how?
41:22Because a real Santa Claus was already here.
41:26Yippee! Hooray!
41:27There is a real Santa Claus.
41:32Well, I... I suppose...

42:54You should have met him.
42:55And we know he will be remembered...
42:56That he will not be remembered,
42:57We never met him to be remembered!
42:59Who is going to be remembered?
43:00You should have met him!
43:01Not only him...
43:02He will never be remembered,
43:03But not only him...

43:07And he will never be remembered,
43:09The other way of Santa Claus!
43:11I never met him...
43:13The only way of Santa Claus!
43:14If he won't come the way of Santa Claus!
43:15The heroes that shall meet his Titanic
43:16And are always to be claimed!
43:17Christmas time, the happiest time of the year, when children are waiting, intently debating
43:31if Santa will ever appear.
43:36They're expecting a wonderful Christmas time, and it's ever so easy.
43:47At the first sign of the spindle, all hearts will be jingling to hear jolly ho bright and the wonder of Christmas time.
44:15Oh, for the wonder of Christmas time, the honey-weed season we know.
44:26And isn't it fun just pretending you're one of the creatures that they play in the snow?
44:37There'll be times when you think of Christmas time, many years, many years from today.
44:49And I hope you'll remember this day in December, the wonder that is both yours and mine.
45:01I hope you'll remember this day in December, the wonder of Christmas time.
45:13Ah, ah, ah, ah.
