Religious and political leaders in Indonesia and East Timor expressed their condolences following the death of Pope Francis, the first Latin American leader of the Catholic Church, on Monday (April 21).

00:07following the death of Pope Francis, the first Latin American leader of the Catholic Church,
00:12on Monday. The 88-year-old pontiff, who died on Monday, was the first pope to visit East Timor in
00:19over 30 years, following John Paul II, whose appearance gave the country's movement for
00:25independence from occupying Indonesia a historic boost.
00:55During his Asia trip last year, the Pope also visited Indonesia, where he walked the
01:01historic tunnel of friendship connecting the Muslim majority country's largest mosque and cathedral.
