00:05about Pope Francis' legacy.

00:08Welcome Pablo to From the South, wish he was in better circumstances.

00:13Yes, very, very sad day for most of the planet, I would say.

00:20Pope Francis brought a new wave of freshness, not only to the Catholic Church, but to the

00:32hundreds of millions of people around the world that found in him a returning of the

00:45Old Mother Church to the basic principles that Jesus actually taught.

00:54And especially the poor people of the planet, the people that are excluded from nowadays

01:03system, all the people that suffer hunger, cold, all the migrants, they are surely going

01:15through a very, very sad moment.

01:21We have the feeling that Pope Francis started to do a revolution inside the Church, but also

01:31in the heart of all the Christian people.

01:35And sadly, he didn't have enough time to accomplish everything he had in mind, I think.

01:42that most people would agree if I say that the Catholic Church is not going to be the same

01:52after Francis was Pope.

01:56And the steps he took forward, I think that they are going to be, it's going to be very difficult

02:07for anyone to try to walk back to the point that we were before he was named Pope.

02:18I think that the world was a better place with him around us, with his voice speaking loud and

02:30being clear, especially, especially to the Latin American people among, you know, the Latin American

02:40Catholic community is one of the biggest in the, in the planet.

02:45So, he knew he, he was talking to his people when he spoke here in Latin America.

02:54And, uh, he was without any doubt a revolutionary, uh, leader, uh, as Jesus was himself.

03:06So, Pope Francis, uh, brought back a lot, uh, the, the faith in the poor people that, uh, the, the

03:20word of Jesus, the, is, uh, the way, the, the humanistic way to reach a better society, a better world,

03:33with no words, and no hunger, and no exclusions.

03:38Pablo, how did his encyclicals, Laudato Si and Fratelli Tutti, I'm not sure if I'm pronouncing that correctly,

03:46challenge global leaders to address climate change and social fragmentation and all the different rules

03:52that you were referring to of inequalities and violations of rights that happen around the world?

03:58Yes, well, we, we have to pay attention to one detail. Pope Francis was, uh, always, uh, in, in,

04:11during all these 12 years, he, uh, he, uh, he raised, he raised his voice, he pointed the unfairness

04:22of the international system. He attacked the power, the powers, the real powers of the planet.

04:29I mean, he spoke directly to the IMF against foreign debts. He spoke about, uh, voucher funds

04:39that are going, is taking the money out of the poor little countries around the planet. And, uh,

04:47his first act as, uh, as a pope, remember that he went to, uh, the place where all these, uh, refugees

04:58from, uh, from Africa were trying to enter into Europe through Italy, remember? La Pedusa, I think,

05:06it's called, uh, to, to point the immigration problem. And, uh, his very last act as, uh, a pope,

05:19I mean, internationally political act, we could say, was the meeting he had with, with the vice

05:26president of the United States to whom he told in his own face that the way they are dealing with

05:34the migrants in the USA is not, uh, uh, a proper human and Catholic way to deal with people.

05:42So he, he started and finished in the same way, showing us, showing the world, uh, that, um, this, uh,

05:55this way that the world seemed to have taken with, uh, all these neoliberal governments that only

06:03think about the profits and, uh, they don't care about living three quarters of the humanity

06:12in hunger and despair. Well, that is not the way to build a better world. And, uh, he showed us,

06:22the people, I mean, the people of the Latin American countries, that the union between

06:28our, we brothers, is, uh, the way to, to accomplish the dream of, uh, a better world.

06:37Pablo, referring also, you were speaking about all the work that he carried out in the past 12 years,

06:43although the dialogue that he tried to create to find harmony among the peoples and the cultures

06:49of the world, what legacy do you think Pope Francis leave for future church leaders,

06:53also taking into account inclusivity and engagement of, of contemporary issues?

07:00Well, I think that, uh, his legacy, uh, the legacy we have to take, um, as our own,

07:09I mean, the, the, the countries like, uh, all the, the Latin American community that are,

07:16we are trying to achieve our national independence yet in, in a full way.

07:23Well, we should, uh, take his, his word and his example. Uh, Pope Francis was a, a man that

07:32in his younger years, he was, he did exactly the same thing that he did when he arrived to the Vatican.

07:40He never changed. He was always with the poorest of the poorest. He was by their side, sharing their

07:49hand there. They are cold. That's why the, the poor people in Argentina will never forget him.

07:58Uh, and, uh, I think that this, this example he gave us during all his life and especially when,

08:08when he had, uh, when he was one, one of the most important human beings in the planet, actually,

08:14because he was the head of the Vatican. Uh, well, he, he pointed, uh, the real problem. He pointed

08:24the extreme wealthiness, uh, to, to be the, um, the, the target of our efforts instead of fighting

08:34against the extreme poverty. Well, let's see what happens with the extreme richness. Okay.

08:39That is the answer. And, uh, I think that, um, Pope Francis is going to be, uh, uh, uh, uh, um,

08:49uh, a light in, in the dark for us all to follow. Uh, when the, when the dark times that are going to be,

09:00uh, soon, uh, in our planet, they will, they, they will be, um, very complicated. And, uh, well,

09:09but Pope Francis is going to give us a light to follow during the dark times ahead.

09:16Thank you, Pablo. Without a doubt, Pope Francis was a great man and a great Pope. And the people

09:21around the world today, the humble people and Catholic and non-Catholics are today mourning the

09:26loss of this great figure. Thank you for your inputs hearing from the South.
