00:12Not by a long shot.
00:15Now, what do they do with this whole situation with Stefano who wants to get Rock out of the way?
00:19How do they plan on making a move on one of the mafia bosses, which is no joke?
00:23The Italian crime families are not to be messed with because of how powerful they were back in the day.
00:28It was actually in my breakdown for Season 3, Episode 2, where I broke down a bit of the history of the Italian crime families
00:34because Stefano did make reference to a few big names in the Italian crime scene like The Chin,
00:39Vincent Giganti who was the head of the Genovese crime family back in New York,
00:43Al Capone, Scarface, Joe Bananas, Joseph Bonanno, the head of the Bonanno crime family.
00:48The history runs deep and I will run through a bit of the history in this breakdown.
00:52But the bulk of this breakdown will be focusing on the Thomas' relationship with Stefano
00:56and how he's set to take a huge turn.
00:59Stefano wants to move Rock out of the way,
01:00but then we've got Marvin and Rock who know they need to make a move on Stefano before he makes his move.
01:05Mixed in this whole situation is early Tyler's move to kill one of Stefano's men.
01:09So we're also going to run through how that could tie into the picture
01:12and why it could be a problem for Marvin.
01:14But mainly the big question going forward is,
01:17how do they navigate this tricky situation of eliminating a problem like Stefano?
01:20Because from where I am, it's looking real bleak for the Thomases.
01:24And if I were to be totally honest, I'm not sure how they rebuild.
01:28I don't know how Rock kind of turns things around and could it be a situation where she can't?
01:32Is this kind of the beginning of the end where they slowly start to dismantle Rock
01:35heading into what I think will be the final season for Raising Kanan, which is season 5.
01:40I mean it's not been confirmed, but I do think it potentially will be.
01:44Eventually you do have to start to lay the foundation of the Thomas family downfall.
01:47Because we know later on in the story there's going to be the introduction of Breeze,
01:52Kanan would begin to rise and so on.
01:54So that's the hot topic of today's breakdown, which is going to have a very Italian feel to it.
01:59We're going to discuss the Thomases big move against Stefano
02:01and how do you both play this chess game against each other
02:04in all things Raising Kanan, season 4.
02:12Now heading into season 4, the relationship between the Thomases and Stefano has been pretty good.
02:17Business has been good.
02:18The relationship has been good.
02:20Things have been running pretty smooth or as smooth as they can be
02:23in a world which is very unpredictable, tricky to navigate and do business in.
02:28Marvin and Stefano have been working together on a few side hustles
02:31and even though they've had a hiccup or two across season 4,
02:34they have managed to overcome those hurdles.
02:36But we always knew this was always going to be a ticking time bomb.
02:40Stefano did also warn Marvin back in 404.
02:42If anything goes wrong with Ellie Tyler and the Corona operation, he will be looking at Marvin.
02:47In terms of Rock, she built this sophisticated system with Kwan with the Chinese restaurants.
02:52The transportation of her product which was very discreet.
02:55Her system worked and it kept her under the radar.
02:57So what changed?
02:59How did we go from business being great,
03:01the business relationship being as good as they can be,
03:03to now Stefano saying he wants to get rid of Rock
03:06and where the Thomases are now thinking the same when it comes to Stefano?
03:09There are a few things.
03:11Uniquing her operation from the shadows is something that really hurt Rock's operation.
03:16She definitely knows this can happen in the game
03:17and no day is ever the same.
03:19People are going to come for you.
03:21But the problem was,
03:22she wasn't expecting her operation to be hit in the manner it was
03:25from someone who she thought was dead six months ago.
03:28Not only that,
03:29the way in which Unique has been hurting Rock
03:31has ended up having a huge knock on effects
03:33like Erwin being very hesitant to carry on doing business with Rock.
03:37David runs the transportation,
03:38he said he was done.
03:40If Marvin and Rock persisted,
03:41then he'll go to law enforcement and snitch,
03:43which made Marvin put David down.
03:45Because of Unique,
03:46her operation which was built for finesse
03:48has slowly started to crumble.
03:50Number two,
03:51she then went and lost her connect in Kwan,
03:53which actually started with Kwan raising her prices by 20%.
03:56We know Kwan has a gambling addiction,
03:58maybe that's why he raised the prices,
04:00but irrespective of why he raised the prices,
04:02this would be a big hit for any organisation.
04:05For anyone who runs a business,
04:07and I'm sure many of you probably do,
04:09imagine your costs overnight increasing by 20%.
04:11Ironically, we're in the midst of this tariff talk all around the world,
04:15for those who keep up with it.
04:16Well,
04:17it was the same scenario for Rock,
04:18which ended up being the start of the break between Rock and Kwan.
04:21There was no way Rock was going to play ball,
04:23and so they ended up going their separate ways.
04:25Now in the meantime,
04:27she was trying to take Kwan's place anyway.
04:29She wanted to make Stefano a higher offer than Kwan,
04:31and she did approach Hafiz and the Afghans to make that possible.
04:34But,
04:35the problem with this is,
04:36she lost her connect,
04:37and with her new one,
04:38even though the agreement had been made in principle,
04:41even though the deal had been pretty much struck,
04:43there are a few weeks wait for the operation to be up and running.
04:46Like Hafiz said in 407,
04:48Rock still needed to wait a whole month,
04:49until he gets everything sorted from his end.
04:51So,
04:52at this moment in time,
04:53she has no product.
04:55Meanwhile,
04:56you've got Unique making all these moves,
04:57with the backing of people like Phil Russo and Kwan.
05:00Stefano even mentioned in 407,
05:02who's to say that Kwan won't give up the Chinese restaurants to Unique,
05:05using his family connections,
05:07and he is right.
05:08We can already see Kwan and Unique making their move against Rock.
05:11They don't need to attack her with guns and bullets,
05:13because what they're doing right now,
05:14is weakening Rock's operation.
05:16If they weaken Rock's operation and status in the streets,
05:19then you end up having a situation like this,
05:22where Stefano begins to question,
05:23whether Rock is the leader that he needs,
05:25because then he'll face questions from the other Italian crime families.
05:28So,
05:29you see how Unique hurting Rock's operation,
05:31has ended up all the way here,
05:32with Stefano now wanting to move Rock to the side.
05:35He believes that Rock hasn't been making the best business decisions,
05:38and for the betterment of himself,
05:40he thinks it's best if they move Rock to one side,
05:42and where Marvin comes in to take her place.
05:45Now,
05:45Marvin definitely heard what Stefano said,
05:47but he also made it abundantly clear at the same time.
05:50That's not some shit Stefano should be saying to Marvin.
05:53There is no way Marvin would ever give up Rock.
05:56Although,
05:56I am trying to figure out why Marvin didn't tell Rock,
05:58when his secrets were being spilled a bit later on,
06:01in terms of working with the Italians behind Rock's back.
06:04Maybe he thought now's not the right time.
06:06Maybe he's actually thinking he can solve the problem himself,
06:09without telling Rock.
06:10We know he's thinking he may have made a mistake with Ellie Tyler,
06:13but maybe he's thinking in the back of his mind,
06:15he's actually fucked up with this Corona operation with Ellie Tyler,
06:19which Rock also doesn't know about.
06:20Maybe he's thinking he can fix the problem himself,
06:23who knows.
06:23I think he should have definitely told Rock.
06:25But either way,
06:27there is no way I think Marvin ever sells his sister out to the Italians.
06:30I don't care how bad shit could potentially get or become between the Thomases.
06:34That's one thing I don't think they'll ever do.
06:36They'll never go that far.
06:38Which is probably kind of a bold statement to make,
06:40because we know what we've seen in power.
06:42Family can definitely turn on each other.
06:44We only have to look at the older Kane and killing his son Sean.
06:47There's definitely a history of family betrayal,
06:49killings,
06:50and so on.
06:50But I do think Marvin is someone who would never.
06:53Now Stefano wants to make a move on Rock.
06:55He said this conversation isn't over.
06:58But Marvin and Rock also know they need to make a move on Stefano.
07:01They know they can't risk the Italians making a potential alliance,
07:04where Stefano makes an agreement with Phil Russo,
07:06where they could then agree to take out the Thomases,
07:08because after all,
07:09Stefano may have called the hit on Sal Buscelli,
07:12but Marvin was the one who pulled the trigger.
07:14So they definitely need to make their move before Stefano makes his.
07:17But how do they make a move on someone as powerful as Stefano?
07:20Messing with the Italians is no joke,
07:22and this is where I just want to briefly touch on the history.
07:25When it comes to the rise and fall of the Mafia,
07:27it can be traced all the way back to the so-called five families.
07:30Many came from Sicily who settled for a spot on the lower east side of Manhattan,
07:34hence why they now call it Little Italy.
07:36These five were very powerful families that ran New York for decades,
07:40making money from legit businesses,
07:42but also profiting from illegal gambling to various street operations.
07:46In doing so,
07:47they established a blueprint and then their crime spread right across America.
07:50It was an organisation that relied on fear to get what it wants,
07:54and if they had a dispute,
07:55they weren't afraid to handle it with a bullet,
07:57or in Stefano's case,
07:58a fairness.
07:58A fairness that we still haven't seen being used,
08:01and I really do wonder if Stefano ends up there himself.
08:04But there was the Bonanno family,
08:05Colombo,
08:06Gambino,
08:07Genovese,
08:08and Lucchese,
08:08and there are loads of films and shows
08:10which have been inspired by their story like The Godfather and Sopranos,
08:14but you get the gist,
08:15the Italians are definitely not to be messed with.
08:17So,
08:18do the Thomases get someone else to do it for them,
08:20so they can kind of keep their hands clean?
08:22Can they do it themselves and make it look like it was someone else?
08:25For example,
08:26making it look like it was Phil Russo perhaps,
08:28but also causes a rift with Phil Russo and the rest of the Italian crime families.
08:32This is where I think we can definitely look at a few examples from Power.
08:36In Season 2,
08:37Ghost was under extreme pressure to shift a shit ton of product from Felipe Lobos.
08:41He needed a few more Primeras on board,
08:43and the way he managed to get the Serbs to play ball was by hitting their product,
08:47but making it look like it came from someone else.
08:49Another example is in Season 6,
08:52Ghost took out Jason Michich,
08:53but set up arguably Power's biggest rat,
08:55Andre Coleman.
08:57So,
08:57if you're going after Stefano and making a move on one of the Mafia bosses,
09:00it's a really big move.
09:02You need to keep your hands clean,
09:04make sure your name,
09:05face.
09:05Anything linked to the Thomas' stays far away as possible.
09:09They need to make sure they don't put themselves at war with the rest of the Italian crime families.
09:13Now,
09:14could they also potentially set him up and give him to the feds?
09:16We also know from earlier in Season 4 that they were watching Stefano.
09:20So,
09:21could they help speed that process along?
09:23This is where I think it's probably the right time to bring that deal back
09:26that was offered to Rock back in Episode 402.
09:29Andre Barnes,
09:29who was Rock's ex-lawyer,
09:31mentioned that he had a connect within the FBI,
09:33who mentioned if she cooperated in bringing down Stefano,
09:36then they'll make it worth her while.
09:38She was being offered a get out of free jail card by law enforcement.
09:41Now,
09:42would that deal have died with Andre Barnes?
09:44Or is that something that can potentially be resurrected in some shape or form with someone else?
09:48Who knows whether that option is still on the table,
09:51but definitely something to keep in mind heading into Episode 8.
09:54If Andre was still here,
09:55then maybe Rock would be able to use him to pull some strings.
09:58I mean,
09:59it's not the first time Rock would have done so,
10:01because it was said she was helping Detective Howard back in the day when she was a minor.
10:05We've all heard about the stories in terms of how she got rid of High Post and DEFCON.
10:09There's also selling Unique out to law enforcement back in Season 1.
10:12So,
10:12there are a few ways they can definitely go about this for sure.
10:15I do think they can hit Stefano and make it look like it was Phil Russo,
10:19which in turn causes problems for him and the other Italian crime families.
10:22Or,
10:23would they set him up and let the feds do the rest?
10:25Could it be something else?
10:27Could Marvin potentially be looking at this situation and think,
10:30I've not told my sister about what Stefano wants because I want to fix it myself.
10:33I want to step up and get this shit done.
10:35Where he could either be the man to save the Thomas' empire from collapse,
10:39or potentially make things even worse.
10:41It's always one or the other with Marvin.
10:43He either never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity,
10:46or he holds shit down.
10:48It's never in between.
10:49Now,
10:50in terms of what Stefano's next move is,
10:52I do wonder if he could approach a young Kanan Stark again.
10:55Let's remember,
10:56earlier on in Season 4,
10:57Kanan did come to pay Stefano a visit.
10:59But at that moment in time,
11:00Stefano did mention that his business was with his mother,
11:03not him.
11:04However,
11:04we've seen how things have taken a turn,
11:06and how he wants to move Rock aside.
11:08And we also know how Kanan believes Rock was the one
11:10who could have potentially got rid of his best friend.
11:12So,
11:13could he actually revisit this,
11:14and could this actually be the start of Kanan's come up?
11:17Maybe something just to keep in mind.
11:19Either way,
11:19I really do think it is looking bleak for Rock and Hair Empire.
11:22It's looking really bleak for Ellie Tyler,
11:24because even though Marvin told Ellie Tyler to go and handle this shit himself,
11:28I don't think he meant go and kill one of Stefano's guys.
11:31So,
11:31what happens with Ellie Tyler,
11:32because he's someone who's actually running Stefano's Corona operation,
11:36a business that has been in Stefano's family for a very long time.
11:39They did make a point to emphasise that.
11:41I do think something is going to have to give when it comes to both Stefano and Ellie Tyler,
11:45and I do think both of them are on their way out,
11:48and maybe we do see that fairness being used for the first time.
11:50Let's wait and see.
11:52So,
11:52I've given you a few different perspectives to definitely think about when it comes to this whole
11:56situation between Marvin,
11:57Rock,
11:57and Stefano,
11:58and how Ellie Tyler could also pay the price.
12:01I do think something definitely has to give,
12:03and if I were to place my bet at this moment in time,
12:05I'd say it's definitely not looking good for either Stefano or Ellie Tyler,
12:09although I'm not sure how Rock and Marvin overcome this situation in the long term.
12:14In the end,
12:14I do think it's just a short term fix for a much larger problem further ahead.
12:18I do think they might potentially be planting the seeds for the eventual Thomas family downfall
12:23that will no doubt eventually have to come in season 5.
12:26That's if season 5 is the last season.
