00:00Carlos signs Carlos bit of a smile under that cap yeah there it is a decent day for the team
00:06you obviously dropped down a couple of places but some good teamwork at the end there can you tell
00:09us about it yeah I think we had a honestly a very solid day overall had a clean clean first
00:17thing that managed to pull my gaps and dominate the first part of the race the midfield and then
00:23we had a bit of a slow pit stop that put us under a bit of stress but after that honestly was I had
00:31really good pace on the hard tires I could feel comfortable at one point the team asked me to
00:36give the arrest to Alex to make sure that Hadjar was was not overtaking him and I did that you know
00:43and I think it allowed us to to score the maximum result for the team which is for the first time
00:50I think in my Williams career I'm I think I managed to execute a close to a perfect weekend
00:55so it's happy days happy days indeed said yesterday you're gonna pick your battles a little bit today
01:00did you feel like not fighting Norris or not fighting Hamilton was probably the best choice
01:05for the long run they finished 25 seconds ahead I think that could have been maybe if I could have
01:10pushed on the hard I don't know maybe more like 15 seconds instead of 25 but in when you're 15
01:19seconds behind sooner or later that cast that car passes you and in Bahrain I got a bit excited
01:25on those battles and I learned took the pill and learned my lesson that until we don't have a car
01:31that is maybe two or three times faster per lap these guys are probably very difficult to fight
01:36unless we are in a Monaco Suzuka tracks where it's difficult to pass I guess we spoke about it a little
01:42bit we joked about it yesterday that that race energy it's very difficult to pull yourself back from that
01:47situation today when you're told to try and help Alex to try and help the team but you know you can
01:54go faster internally as a driver how difficult is that it's it's easy now out of the car to say it
02:00was the right thing to do yeah but in the car how difficult a decision process is that for you to
02:04yeah slow yourself it's always an easy call from the people you know the driver to give the arrest to
02:09the other driver especially on a track like jeda you know it's you expose yourself to to do a mistake
02:16and be overtaken by two cars not only one you know and uh we we talked about it with Alex so I I knew
02:22Alex was not gonna go and overtake me like that because he knew I was gonna give him the arrest and
02:27he was warned on the radio but you always feel less comfortable and less confident if the idea comes from
02:33the pit bull than when it comes from yourself like it did in Singapore to me it was my idea and it was
02:38my my call because I felt comfortable enough to do it here I was a bit caught up in the situation but
02:45um I did well I think I managed to give Alex what the team asked me we brought home a double points
02:52finish and there in the last lap I had a cheeky very fast lap to show the pace that I had today
02:58uh which I think it was very strong so um that's positive does it feel like a bit of a turning
03:04point for you with the team you've bed didn't bedded in now and uh do you think this is track specific
03:09or can you carry this positivity through to Miami no I think it's it's a good tendency we saw it
03:14Suzuka I was half a tenth off from Q3 and Bahrain made it to Q3 and maximized the carrying quality not
03:22in the race and in the race so um we're trending and we're going in the right direction I'm sure there
03:32will be set setbacks still along the way on my adaptation process that will be tougher tracks for me
03:37and set up changes that I will fail and and I'll get it wrong and driving things that I'll still have to
03:46learn but uh it's part of the adaptation process and to be performing at the level that I am in race
03:51five with the team it's already a very good sign so we just need to keep going and keep knowing that
03:56these setbacks might still happen but keep applying the philosophy that I have applying applied so far
04:02absolutely and all the very best with it enjoy a little bit of a break yeah but you bet you're looking
04:06forward to it aren't you a little bit a few days a few days I know it's been especially mechanics and
04:11everyone in the team that get it a bit tougher than us um deserve it and I hope uh they can recover well
04:17and come back stronger in uh where is it Miami Miami put a pin in the map thank you very much well done
04:25today and thank you for your time okay let's hear from Christian Horner now he's with Karun
04:29Christian we heard both you and Max uh talk about the the star and the penalty I assume you you don't
04:39think you deserve the five seconds but was there any conversation around swapping giving the place
04:45back and and or was it a case of like let's try and break the five second gap we had that sort of
04:51discussion with the race directors obviously uh before the race through briefings and whatever else
04:56and um no I mean we we have this this uh notion of let them race I don't know where Max was supposed to
05:03go at that first corner uh you know we've lost the race by 2.6 seconds so it's yeah it's tough I think
05:09the most positive thing for us today the pace was there it was a very positive race uh you know
05:14congrats to uh to Oscar um but uh yeah you know disappointing not to get the win I mean I have to
05:20say on Friday it didn't look like you guys were in play it looks like Max and the team have done a
05:25brilliant job turned around the pace was amazing in that first stint yeah absolutely I mean we pulled a
05:29gap and uh I mean on uh let's let's not forget on Friday McLaren had 1.2 seconds on everybody um and
05:36uh I thought the pace in the car Max was feeling comfortable out there and uh you know he was
05:41pulling out the gap we were trying to get the gap at the pit stop you know even with the penalty but
05:46uh it wasn't to be so you know good points important points today uh we're only 12 points off the lead
05:51of the championship uh we've taken a few points out of Lando so um so yeah everything to play for
05:57going forward is it about finding consistency because obviously Bahrain you guys are further
06:01away Japan you were right on the back so you just seem sort of up and down depending on the
06:06layout of the circuit is that fair statement you think well look we know McLaren are very very quick
06:11but uh you know last three races two pole positions a first a second and obviously Bahrain was tough for
06:16us I mean arguably without that penalty we would have won today as well so um a lot of positives to
06:21take a lot of lessons and we know we've got to improve all right enjoy the podium thank you
06:26hi Max hi um can I ask you first of all I know you're annoyed about the penalty just tell me your
06:34take on it to be honest I think um any word towards that is just a waste of time for everyone
06:40how's it different from the turn 12 in Austin with Lando when he was told to give the place back
06:46we talked about it a lot and uh last year this year different different kind of rules so that's
06:51also not the problem but honestly this is also not of not my problem to be honest um I think the
06:56positive is that we had quite decent pace in in the race I was much happier on that medium as well
07:01because honestly I didn't expect that pace in the car but it did show that uh yeah the change that we
07:06made to the car from Friday to Saturday they definitely helped a lot uh on on tire wear as well
07:11so positives then because you were able to one put it on pole and two you've ended up p2 in this race
07:16today um when you say the rules have changed though I have to ask you when you say the rules have
07:22changed from last year from what happened with Lando to now what's changed just so we can understand
07:26as well uh yeah let's get the paperwork honestly live whatever I mean it's all it's all written down
07:32so will you appeal do you think you can go and appeal can you say no no it's not in my interest
07:38uh the only thing that is in my interest is now looking forward to go home all right thank you
07:42welcoming martin brundle to presentation good to see you uh do you enjoy that race loved it yeah
07:48really good action wasn't it it was a one-stopper but so they can be a bit tame sometimes but
07:54um incredible fighting and the top four nine seconds apart after all that let's just get your
07:59reaction to what both max and christian said christian said were it not for the penalty they would
08:04have won that race do you agree uh if they'd have stayed in the lead but with a bona fide first two
08:10corners yes i think he had a good chance of that but i think piastri uh oscar had some pace in hand
08:16should should he have needed it um so um i i i call these things live in commentary uh as i see them
08:24and i haven't changed my mind on that uh oscar got into the first corner got into the first apex
08:30and i have read of the rules for 2025 and he had that corner um but if if your rival wants to come
08:39off the brakes and if you look there's not a whole lot of steering lock going on um max didn't really
08:44try to go around the eyes he'd lost that corner and he should have tucked back in i think the team
08:48should have handed the place straight back i think it was obvious he was going to take a penalty for
08:52that then i think they might have had a chance to win the race yes max clearly not a happy chappy but
08:57there's plenty of positives to take away from this weekend when you consider the frustrations of
09:02bahrain the fact is he put it on pole and he finished 2.8 seconds off piastri and frustrated
09:08and disappointed he didn't get a win so things are looking better surely i think positive when you
09:12helicopter out of it and think of it like that but obviously in the moment i think he felt like he had
09:16an opportunity to win the race today if i was max the thing i'd be most frustrated about was my start
09:21because he's on pole position and oscar got a good car length and a half probably on him just in the
09:26start so and a lot of that was actually reaction time so i think actually that's where the race
09:31started to unravel in the first place it put him in a compromised position for term one i agree with
09:35martin's point of view in terms of what actually happened at term one and then the race after that
09:40kind of unfolded as it did with the penalties so in my opinion i think they should be overall positive
09:45and head into miami knowing they've got a chance to still fight for the championship yeah they absolutely
09:50do it's the first time though that red bull have been beaten at this track since 2021 right let's
09:55head over to karoon who's back at the skypad thanks sadly let's take a look at that really moment of
10:02controversy in this race so the star for that illustrate if you look at the cars behind him
10:08there there's you got charlotte and carlo science on the dirty side they've lost ground to the cars on
10:15the clean side on on you know the right hand side of the track left hand side of a picture oscar's the one
10:20who's still made a fantastic getaway and if we just roll it a lot back a couple of frames he's
10:25recognized okay oscar's here i've got to do something different so the staff is now thinking
10:31i'm going to go wide and who went off the track it was lando who came out in front and gained the
10:36position and gained elastic advantage and got the five second penalty and on this occasion the steward
10:42staying consistent with what happened there have given max the five second penalty back to you
10:48thank you career okay well we will say goodbye to our friends on main event now and when we come back
10:54we will be analyzing shot welcome back to jeddah now of course ferrari did get that sprint win in china
11:01but charlotte's podium today was their first grand prix in 2025 let's hear from them now
11:06hi char you must be pleased with that performance today because with the pit stop with your moves
11:14with your hanging on at the end there everything you worked really hard for that podium as a team
11:18and it came yeah i was um really i'm really happy i i don't think there was anything to squeeze uh more
11:24out of of the car that we have at the moment and i was very pleased with the pace that we've shown once
11:29we were in free air on the first hint i think this was very promising now we just need to put everything
11:34together in qualifying it's always been one of my strength but for now i cannot do more than before
11:38really uh there's just not enough grip and we are paying a lot the price then once in the race because
11:43if we are starting first today i think it's a very different story and i think we actually have a very
11:48good race car in order to be fighting for wins but at the moment we're just losing our weekends on the
11:53saturday um you said on the radio at one point let's stop trying to fix what's not fixable what was that
11:59um turn 16 uh 16 was horrible in the first part of the race i don't know why it felt so bad and i
12:08couldn't do anything i was trying everything but just the car was either under steering like crazy
12:12over steering like crazy and i couldn't do anything as soon as i got free actually it got much better
12:16but i had very often messages on the radio on that turn 15 16 and i was trying my best but the grip
12:22was just not there so i was just like leave it there i'll try my best but i don't think that it's
12:26going to work i just only first ask you very briefly so you say the qualifying is where you're
12:30losing it at the moment so how much can you change the car at the moment to suit qualifying
12:34and you're at risk of losing some some of this edge on sunday if you do that i don't think it's
12:39that easy unfortunately it's not like you we are setting up the car better for the race than for
12:45quality or that we are taking any compromises we are just trying to make the car the fastest
12:48possible but once we are in um qualifying that you are pushing to the limits that there's a
12:54type of preparation also in the loop then things are not clicking for us at the moment and we need
13:00to try and and find something but i would say overall our strength is time management our what
13:07we are lacking is just downfalls compared to the red bulls compared to the mclaren are also compared
13:12to the mercedes and i think today we are a step better because the time management is really good
13:17but we are still lacking the downfalls that we were lacking yesterday thank you thanks
13:21Fred congratulations podium there for charles was it uh did it look like a podium was on the
13:29cards at the start did you think that the pace in the seconds it would be that strong yeah but it's
13:33always difficult to predict the pay the pace for the race and as we didn't do the long stint on friday
13:38but i think we went it went pretty well we were able to extend to not push too much at the beginning and
13:44to extend with the first hint and everything went well we are in the pace as noise the same place as noise at
13:50the end it was with medium but it's it's good but it's uh as i always see also the negative side of
13:56this i think that we have to improve the quality because that uh starting from a better position
14:02could be much better can i ask you about lewis because we saw in qualifying he was a long way off
14:07as he was in bahrain but in bahrain at least you know his race base seems stronger here he was a
14:11in the end a long way off charles you know i think it's 30 odd seconds at the end it's um anything to
14:17rapport from lewis's side no no i didn't discuss with lewis that uh but uh it was it was a bit up
14:23and down it's not that he was always out of the pace but uh let me discuss with him first where do
14:31you think it is because obviously you saw qualifying is there one area that lewis is struggling with at
14:36the moment that you can help with no no props is the the confidence with the car with the props with a
14:42little bit with himself also that everything is new and uh for sure this kind of weekend when you
14:48don't do long stint on friday and so and we struggle a little bit with the balance are not ideals but
14:54let's see next week uh last last time that we did the sprint it went pretty well that uh
14:59okay well we get a weekend off after a tough trip later thank you
15:01hi lewis so i know yesterday you were saying to us you needed some magic or i think you there's a
15:11quote saying you said you needed a brain transplant to get on top of this car but it really seemed to
15:16come alive for you in that second stint towards the end there was there a point where you did feel
15:19comfortable in the race today no there wasn't one second no so how hard is it then what what are you
15:26dealing with in the car and and how much work i don't know clearly the car is capable of being p3
15:33so uh charles did a great job today so i can't blame him on that you don't have any idea why it's just
15:40not happening for you all right thank you thank you thank you oh that makes for tough listening for
15:48ferrari lewis fans all over the world he didn't feel comfortable at all in that car how do you
15:53explain that well fred somebody obviously said it's been up and down because there was a time we we
15:57talked about in commentary where he was in the mid one minute 32s which was bang on the pace but he
16:02ended up 31 seconds behind charles leclerc his teammate obviously had a little bit more traffic
16:07because he was further down the grid so you can take some off for that but it was it was up and down
16:13and i i struggle to buy into he doesn't understand the car uh you know it's a new car here we are
16:20knocking on the door of may um and they've had all the pre-season stuff and all that so i i just think
16:26lewis hasn't gelled with this car and i don't think he's he's going the right way on the setup we know
16:31lewis has a very i know from things i've heard from mercedes about how lewis likes the car in a certain
16:37way i just can't get the car there where he needs it so it's it's difficult days but what's a bit odd
16:44is all of a sudden he was right there absolutely but in fairness just going back to your point about
16:50not you know taking a while to bed in with the team or not carlos was just here telling us how proud he
16:55was to make things work after coming into round five it can take half a season can't it yeah okay but
17:02it took oliverman a day last year here but then he wasn't relearning a guy he was just getting in
17:08and learning a car but you know antonelli's got used to working with bono quite quickly and working
17:13with that cover he did a lot of testing last year i i'm struggling to buy into that honestly um
17:20but we know lewis is better lewis is faster than that so something's not working something's not
17:26gelling there or something did work for his teammate today how impressed were you with uh how long he
17:30went on the first stint incredibly impressed and it seemed just come alive for him in the race and
17:34i think they touched on it a lot i think they under by their underperforming in qualifying and that's
17:39kind of the opposite of what we've seen in a ferrari a lot of the time is normally they qualify really
17:44well but they don't have the race pace to match and now it seems to be the opposite that said i think
17:49um yeah he had a great race especially at the end of the stint when we thought lando was going to
17:52come on strong on the medium he had a bit to respond with and i think that's a mark of a good intent
17:58for the rest of the year especially if they've got some upgrades coming maybe later in the year as
18:01well and yeah we are hearing that there's an upgrade package for imola which will be music
18:05to the ears of all of them providing of course that lewis can make it work by then yeah the problem
18:10you've got these days the regulations are so mature that finding a tenth or two is hard but everybody's
18:16finding a tenth or two so if you want to close the gap it's really hard at the moment with cost cap
18:22um with relentless racing and travel uh with the 2026 massive changes you know racing towards them
18:31as well so they'll have they'll all have one bite of the cherry but mercedes and ferrari need not only
18:37to get an upgrade they've got to jump a tenth or two as well and that'll be really hard to do i'm
18:42impressed for you though that charl was able to hold off lando for that podium the first of 2025 in a
18:48grand brie i loved it from both of them i thought they both had a uh well in fact full respect to
18:53anybody out there today because this is a brutally fast street circuit and anybody who got to the end
18:59of that without uh tearing a wheel off it i you know i tipped my hat there too because it was uh you
19:06could see how hot they were at the end of it but when we saw leclerc and norris on those final few laps
19:12just hustling the car they were going for i loved it yeah they really were charl had a lot to contend
19:16with you said yourself they all look exhausted they looked exhausted and we heard charl mention
19:20heavy steering a couple of times and that's only worse when you're at a high speed track so i think
19:24it would have been incredibly physical for them we saw how they looked after the race combine that
19:28with the mental capacity that's required of this track it's hugely impressive as martin said not to
19:34make a single mistake i think uh yeah it really shows props to tops them at that level especially a
19:39track like this absolutely okay let's hear from the mercedes drivers now they finished fifth and sixth
19:43russell and antonelli respectively george we heard on the radio saying it was tough out there today
19:51both the team said that and you said that can you just tell us why it was so tough today yeah it was
19:55just all about the tires they were massively overheating and i was pushing hard to stay with
20:00with max at the beginning of the the second stimp but i knew i wasn't going to be able to hold on and
20:07and we we fell off that cliff towards the end you know i was dropping a second a lap in the last 15
20:13laps uh but to be fair we just didn't have the pace and i think even had i managed more i'd have still
20:18come home in p5 so uh you know we're all work we we know that is a bit of a weakness of our car at the
20:24moment coming home p5 on a bad day is uh we'll kind of take it but we need to try and improve it quickly
20:32sounded um from the radio messages like you're worried about overheating from early on yeah were
20:35you surprised then was that temperatures hotter today than expected or no i know it's more about
20:40just how fast we're going through these corners and um for whatever reason we've generated more
20:44temperature than that than our rivals and then suddenly i mean you get to a point and they're like
20:49the tires are like a balloon and um we had blistering on the front blistering on the rear and then
20:55suddenly you just have no grip from the tire so um we need to understand why bahrain was so positive
21:03because that's also an overheating track but a very different type of overheating to what you
21:09experience here in jenna we probably had higher hopes for the race today than we had for bahrain
21:15and it kind of turned out the opposite so uh something we need to understand miami can also be
21:21very hot yeah what are your thoughts looking ahead to that i'm not too sure to be honest we know we're
21:27kind of in the mix for that podium position week in week out uh we're all you know one step behind
21:33mclaren so you know we all need to improve if we want to fight for for these victories thank you thank
21:39you very much well you say not easy kimmy just tell me how how was that race for you today because
21:47it looked tough and it looked like you and george in the end maximized everything you could really
21:53well i think at the end of the race the pace on my side was uh was pretty strong um the last 10 10.50
22:01lab were actually pretty positive the first hint i need to review uh because i was struggling with the
22:09balance uh and the front tire dropped uh quite quite quite easily really easy and very early on so i had to
22:16pit uh quite a bit earlier compared to the others and then uh yeah that said you know i had to manage
22:23quite a lot more in the first half of the scene ton hard but then the last uh the last i was able to
22:28push again and it was nice that to see that the pace was up there and uh definitely you know now i have
22:33a week off and time to gather all the information in order to be back stronger brush the wall at one
22:39point was there any damage i mean how was that in the car luckily not i brush it twice because
22:44the last was in t4 and uh was really scary because then i started to have some vibration
22:50and which was not really pleasant but uh uh glad that they hold on and just finally from me what
22:56do you take away from this triple header it's been a tough three weeks but do you feel you've
23:01got basically made progress but also learned a lot from this car and yeah definitely i mean was
23:06was a good test physically mentally uh but also really good learning uh because um you know was
23:15three completely different tracks three completely different situations so it was good to experience
23:20that and uh probably needs to still work a little bit on uh on especially on open tarmacs and where the
23:27deck is higher but i think today uh because the deck today was not was still was still there and uh was good
23:35learning from from bahrain and i was happy with how i managed the tire in the second steam so
23:39definitely you know massive learning and now as i said before i have a week a week off so i have time
23:45to gather all the information and think about them properly uh in order to be back stronger exams uh
23:52yeah i mean they're a bit later around july so i think this week i will prioritize rest
23:58well he certainly deserves it good to have his dad there to hold him up after what was clearly a
24:05very physical race it was a tough one wasn't it but the sixth place finish today takes him to sixth
24:11in the drivers um 38 points so actually jamie a decent weekend for antinelli but you sense from george
24:19that they wanted and expected more today i think from george's side they clearly didn't have the pace to
24:26battle with the top three and he dropped back and had a bit of a lonely race in the end and
24:30that's where that disappointment will come from i think from kimmy's side really positive as a whole
24:35he's seven seconds behind george which considering where he started isn't bad at all and this place
24:40is incredibly tough incredibly physical incredibly mental yes he did brush the wall a couple of times
24:45he got away with it but still to get through that race i think he's going to take a huge amount of
24:48confidence from that he's learning all the time isn't he i mean he's he's been exposed to so many
24:53different conditions in just five races yeah he got to the end of the melbourne grand prix which one
24:57of the toughest i've commentated on uh as from a driver's perspective and again tonight um he looked
25:04hot didn't he that feeling when you're caught is so hot you can't get away from your own body
25:10yeah all of your body hurts and you want to step away from it but you you just can't and um the
25:16the physicality of what was going on out there tonight so you know he'll he'll he's 18 years old he'll
25:21grow into that so i agree i think he had a solid night out george's car obviously burned his front
25:28tires out and he slipped away i think he'll go home disappointed yeah were you surprised by that
25:33because certainly talking to him before the race he thought he was on for a podium today
25:36yeah but at the same time we were surprised how well the ferrari went we you know yeah remember they
25:41only have two sets of those hard compound tires so they don't try them out so it's always a bit of a
25:45lottery isn't it when they're going to the grand prix as to how they're going to work on with the
25:49uh the individual cars very physical tonight but actually there's no let up when we get to miami
25:54oiling there as well just a different diver very hot and also an incredibly tough race physically
26:00because there's not loads of tired degradation there either well similar probably hit to here
26:04maybe a little bit less so they're pushing 100 every lap and that's the thing that makes the difference
26:09if you go for a run for example and you're running at 85 90 percent versus when you have to run at
26:15100 the difference is significant and it's like that in the car as well so when they don't have
26:20the tire degradation they're pushing a lot harder and that's what you find at miami so another
26:23incredibly physical race it's crazy here because you think when the sun goes down it's going to get
26:28significantly cooler and it doesn't just sort of feels closer and sweatier doesn't it it's more
26:33more humid yeah i i did i know i'm nearly 50 years older than uh kimmy but i drove the mercedes at
26:40silverstone like half the temperature of this probably at 80 percent speed my neck went in
26:45three laps and i was jelly in 10. i mean the physical they're so relentless these guys got a
26:51thousand horsepower grip you don't even think about shifting gear you get a beep in your ear and off you
26:56go and uh they're just relentlessly good and there's no letting up and i'm i'm not surprised they look
27:03hot and bothered you still loved it though didn't you absolutely of course you did an adrenaline
27:09fueled race then here on the streets of jeda and one that oscar piastri triumphed out ahead of max
27:13of the staff and interestingly the first time they've gone toe to toe when oscar has come out on top
27:17three different teams on the podium with charlotte rounding out the top third spot lando norris great
27:25recovery drive to come back to four fifth and sixth for the mercedes drivers and a double points finish
27:30for williams carlos signs and alex albon isaac hadjo also sneaking into the points
27:34the bottom half looks fernando alonso just missing out on the points oliverman couldn't
27:41quite emulate the heroics of last year and two retirements yuki sunoda and pierre gazelle
27:47did coming together on the first lap
27:53and then this is what it means for the drivers championship oscar piastri for the first time
27:58this season has gone out in front it's the first australian to lead the world championship since mark
28:03weber after the 2010 japanese grand prix his advantage is 10 points over his teammate
28:14bottom half looks like this pierre gazelle it actually looked like it was going to be a strong
28:19weekend for him but it wasn't to be after that crash on lap one portoletto still yet to score
28:28difficult day for him as well this is what the constructors looks like mclaren now with a
28:3377 point advantage over mercedes red bull a further 22 back as we mentioned there was a crash on the
28:42first lap between yuki snowder and pierre gazelle let's hear from both the drivers now starting with yuki
28:50hey yuki can you just tell me your point of view of what happened on that first lap
28:54um it's hard to blame one of you know either me or to be honest here just like i i've done work you
29:05know as much as i can to avoid it um i was fully in control in terms of speed and you know it's not
29:09i was not like almost crashing into the car in front uh colors so i was fully in control and yeah i tried
29:15to avoid as much as i can to uh not hit the pierre but um especially like this kind of like that kind
29:21of more probably most tight corner in this track and going side by side you're gonna always have
29:28risk and here i mean we both know knows it actually i assume because of experience but you know just
29:36a shame that how we ended up i mean it's hard to say because you can say there was space but also my
29:43my point of view i didn't have my space and i was you know tried to i tried to do slow down as
29:49much as i can to avoid it but yeah i don't know what can i do other than that to be honest yeah
29:54sorry to see you here so early um just what's your take on it on the incident with yuki there's no
30:02no need to say too much about it um i know him i know is you know never intentional and uh yeah on
30:10my side i was um i had a good line coming into turn four i could break quite late and try to leave as
30:16much space as i could on the outside of turn four so i'd already have the car uh past the white line
30:21i had to keep my my two wheels uh you know inside the track to make sure the the the path was done
30:26and uh yeah i mean at the end of the day it's it's a tiny uh it's a tiny touch but um it's just a shame
30:33it's uh yeah it put a stop to both of our race thank you it was a shame wasn't it jamie because
30:43they both qualified inside the top 10 and then well the race didn't even get past the first lap
30:49what was your take on things usually i feel like they do a very good job of avoiding situations like
30:54this it just seems like obviously a racing incident i would say unavoidable i think our passion blame a
31:00little bit more on yuki's side i think he's the one that ran a little bit deeper into the corner
31:04with the car side by side but it's so tricky especially in high speed and as yuki said it's
31:09so tight especially at that corner and given the speed of the of the corner i think uh racing incident
31:14in that one bernie welcome back what did you make of that first lap incident or incident as charles
31:21i thought you were going to say as i would say but yeah i you know i totally agree with jamie i think
31:26jamie martin are the experts in that area definitely um and it's unfortunate because
31:30that's an early end to the the race an early safety car which affected we don't know how
31:34much it affected the medium and hard we can never go back and replay it exactly without that and then
31:39you know maybe has a chance to prevent further incidents later on in the race as well so what do
31:44you think both of them were capable of today because actually there were signs throughout the weekend
31:48they might have a strong race yeah certainly back end of the top 10 i think it would have spoiled
31:53perhaps williams day if you had a clean run and pierre maybe even two so i think it was a racing
31:59incident um pierre was pushing his luck a bit but left space around the outside you keep pinched on
32:04the inside understairs a bit heavy on fuel cold on front tires they met in the middle i don't know
32:11what else you could do you know and if if you didn't if they both backed out of it you're not a racing
32:17driver so i'm afraid these things happen on the first lap that's that's why we start them all
32:22together it's not a time trial it's a race absolutely uh let's just have a quick look at
32:27this we've got these shots of uh pierre a little earlier
32:33so he just come back to the paddock and obviously keen to get a view on things with karoon
32:38that skypad comes in handy doesn't it i think that's very difficult for drivers to come back and
32:43not have seen the incident then straight away have to comment on the on the press
32:46yeah i mean looking at that that that's a different angle i'm just i'm trying to steal a glance of the
32:53skypad there because um i haven't that's the first time i've seen that yeah i mean it was marginal the
33:00space plf there let's have a quick word on isaac hadger because he managed to tuck himself into the
33:06points quite a quiet race from him um but that will be great do do wonders for his confidence so
33:10particularly after that crazy moment for him in australia he's actually had a a decent run of
33:17results lately exactly since then he's bounced back with phenomenal form you know he's been able to kind
33:22of quietly go about executing his business picking up points and today was a great race he went long
33:26initially and managed to seek himself in into the points and then obviously uh was battling for the
33:31williamses at the very end and i think the teamwork from the two williamses kept him at bay i guess but
33:36still to pick up a point for for the racing bulls was a really impressive job yeah liam lawson out
33:40qualified him he couldn't quite manage getting into the points today uh how will liam be feeling
33:46about his racing bulls career yeah i think today was a bit of a recovery drive really to be right
33:51back with your teammate is you know the best you can expect i think interestingly listening to hadger's
33:56radio that's the most um annoyed i've heard him on the radio when he was trying to get with the
34:01williams trying to figure out as a team how they were going to attack with those two williams so that
34:06was quite interesting but yeah lawson's got to feel he's got to build up you know he's come back
34:11to williams in not the best mental state we we suspect and he's got to slowly build back into it
34:18you know and i i think he's done okay he also uh picked up a 10 second penalty lawson at the end as
34:24well for i think going off track i don't know if he had done it multiple times you didn't see that many
34:29replays but stuff like that i think is things that he has to avoid right okay good stuff right karoon uh has
34:35caught up with the race winner oscar piastri let's hear from him oscar congratulations your fifth
34:41grand prix victory you're the first australian lead the world championship since your manager
34:46in 2010 how does that feel um i mean i'm happy to be leading the championship yes but i'm i'm more
34:53proud of the the reasons why we're leading the championship i think it's been a great start to
34:57the season um you know i think melbourne obviously the result wasn't exactly what i wanted but
35:04i think even taking that out of the equation every weekend has been more or less what i've wanted it
35:09to look like and um you know i think that's why i'm leading the championship at the moment
35:15i'm not that bothered um because i want to be leading it in 19 races time uh not now but i'm proud of
35:23the work that we've been doing and proud of the results we've been achieving to put ourselves in
35:27that position so well so you should be i mean let's talk about today because the first stint
35:32it was obviously dictated by by the start it was pretty predictable that if you were alongside max
35:38on the inside he was going to cross that runoff area wasn't it yeah i suppose so yes i knew it was
35:45going to be a a hard battle and uh you know i knew that you know i knew i had to be firm because i
35:51knew if it was uh roles reversed it probably would have looked identical in the opposite direction the
35:57launch was the launch was mega set it up the launch the launch was mega um got a really good good jump
36:02and then the the drive out after that was uh was mega as well so um that's what what got us the race
36:09you know it was not ideal having to sit in max's dirty air for the first stint because
36:14at the end i had nothing uh my tires were dead were you surprised at his pace because he was pushing
36:19on yes and were you surprised how much pace he had at that point yes i was i was surprised um
36:26i thought at the start of the stint i could could go with him but then you know kind of after lap 10
36:31lap 12 he kind of just eked it out a bit and i didn't have an answer um so that's kind of where we
36:37thought we'd be good in the stint but um yeah just didn't quite have enough today i think the dirty air
36:43really was a a pain today you know even with the back markers it made a big difference and you know
36:48not just from a second back from like three or four seconds back so it um really influenced the
36:54race a lot and uh having that clean air and the second stint really helped us out your boss told me
36:58this morning that he thinks when the car's hot or when the temperature is hot rather it's good it makes
37:05everyone the team smile you you guys think you're going to be competitive when it's hot uh here's your
37:09teammate i hope so i've got now my ribs he's giving me a bruise on my behind that's how he's going to
37:16get you um so what do you think about miami because it's going to be roasting hot there that's going
37:22to favor you guys surely yeah i'm yeah i'm i'm not unhappy that it's a day race you're still going to
37:29beat your teammate obviously i'm still going to be lando yes i know but um you know i think every every
37:34hot session we've had we've looked looked good um so i think it's it's hard to not be encouraged by
37:40that i think we're just going to do all that hard work and not just assume that we're going to be
37:44quick because of that but um yeah we've got some some quite confidence about it okay listen go celebrate
37:52with the team thank you for your time cheers again thank you cheers he's just so chilled out isn't he
37:57i mean it's great to see takes everything in his stride doesn't seem to get too down with defeat
38:03doesn't seem to celebrate victory too much it works for him yeah you'd think that leading the
38:09championship now that's got to be such a target for either those mclaren drivers coming into any of
38:14the weekend so far he's got to feel really positive about that he's not showing us us he's showing us
38:19this cool calm exterior um but yeah you know i'm happy for him and how boosted would he feel about
38:26coming that wheel-to-wheel racing with uh max and coming out on top ultimately there's a huge morale
38:32boost it was a big moment for him but you know other than an unlucky bounce in the gravel trap in
38:37melbourne he could have been leading the championship by 25 30 points but lots of ifs there you know
38:43lando hadn't gone off in qualifying and so forth but um you know he's he's won 10 of his grand prix now
38:50oscar piastri i mean it's extraordinary it's now won the same number of grand prix as
38:55uh lando and so you know the the writing's on the wall he he's he is the favorite for the championship
39:02and there's stewart's reports to come out whilst we've been on air yes it has um if i can just
39:08sorry i should have given you a little bit of warning but yeah it is basically it's the
39:12stewart's decision on the first corner incident and it it's very clear um
39:18um they looked at the telemetry the in-car video determined that 81 had its front axle at least
39:24alongside the mirror which is one of the criteria in fact it was fully alongside um based on the
39:32driver's standard guidelines for 2025 it was there for car 81's corner and he was entitled to be given
39:39room car one then left the track and gained a lasting advantage that was not given back he stayed in front
39:46and sought to build a further advantage normally it'd be a 10-second penalty but because it was the
39:51first corner of the first lap they gave him five seconds getting 10 seconds later on in the race
39:59do you think once the dust has settled max verstappen will accept this and move on i don't know i think
40:04max's nature is to be so 100 believing in himself and i think that's what served him well in many
40:09regards but in this instance i think it's clear clearest day in that in that regulation let's look forward
40:14to miami now it is a great race i mean there's such a buzz about that place isn't there and when you
40:20consider it was the stage of uh lando's maiden victory in formula one some some great memories for
40:26them to build on yeah some great memories for the team to build on i think a lot of drivers will be
40:30looking to make amends for this weekend lando's one max another they'll be aiming to try and recuperate
40:36some of the points that they'll maybe feel hard done by this weekend so i think it's going to be a
40:40great battle everyone's going to go in there to try and secure some more on the board aren't they
40:44it's been wildly intense five races in six weeks but as a racer do you want to go racing again next
40:50weekend you're quite grateful for the break uh we'll take a break won't we i mean there must be some
40:54easter eggs hidden in the garden somewhere must have melted out here to find yet but no we'll take
41:00a breather you know there's been what five races in six weekends uh everyone will take a breather then
41:06straight into miami triple headers are pretty tough on everyone um the drivers i'm sure can
41:11take it in their stride but the engineers and as martin says it's important to get a bit of family
41:14time in as well and recharge the batteries absolutely i think people forget how much travel how much you
41:20know it takes out of everyone so a good rest i'm sure for some teams i think they're straight back to
41:25work i know a lot of the teams go straight back to the office as soon as they land after a four or
41:29five hour night flight so um it's incredible how hard they work they deserve a bit of rest if they can get
41:33it but it'll be straight onto miami before they know so the first of three races in the us it's
41:38a venue we love to go to what do you like about miami uh another actually relentlessly fast track for
41:43what is a big car park basically but uh they motor on around there land will be looking forward to it
41:49because of course he won last year didn't he that started his charge in the world championship driver
41:55wise bernie thank you for your company have you had a good weekend yes it's been lovely to be here
42:00it really has i've only done one so i feel quite fresh compared to the others of the triple you're
42:04ready to go again are you uh martin you've enjoyed your time in saudi i have i thought it was a great
42:09race we were a bit worried we were told this morning by in our normal briefings crafty and i have that
42:14could be a bit steady but it wasn't steady it was really exciting it really was compelling stuff
42:18and jamie your first weekend with sky phone have you enjoyed it loved it enjoyed being part of the
42:23team great team great race looking forward to more wonderful stuff well it's oscar piastri who leaves here
42:29the happiest he's got a 10 point lead in the championship thank you so much for your company
42:33we will see you in miami second of may take care bye
