Transcript
00:00Gran-Gran, I've been reading all about your old adventures. I've been dying to ask you.
00:04Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most interesting Avatar
00:09mysteries answered after its final episode. Be warned, there will be major spoilers for
00:14all Avatar spinoffs. Don't you want to know what happened to your mother?
00:22Number 10. What's Uncle Iroh's fate? At the end of Avatar, Iroh fulfilled his destiny of
00:27reclaiming Ba Sing Se from the Fire Nation. He retired, spending his days relaxing in his tea
00:33shop, essentially inventing boba tea. This is the best tea in the city. The secret ingredient is love.
00:40This lasted until Zuko decided to search for his mother. Iroh became interim Fire Lord,
00:46and his first action was announcing National Tea Appreciation Day.
00:49This tea is nothing more than hot leaf juice.
00:53Uncle, that's what all tea is.
00:55How could a member of my own family say something so horrible? We'll have to make some major changes
01:03around here.
01:04After a conflict with Ozai loyalists, he returned to Ba Sing Se. Spirits became shop regulars,
01:10even helping him land a date with Lee May, who Iroh grew fond of. Eventually,
01:15he ascended to the spirit world, where he built a whole new tea shop and later became acquainted with
01:20Korra. It's my favorite thing I found here. You know, when you make tea in it, you can still taste
01:28a little light in every cup.
01:31Number 9. What happened to Suki?
01:33The Kyoshi Warrior played a big part in taking down the Fire Lord. To get her there, the gang had to
01:39break her out of the Boiling Rock, a maximum security prison.
01:42The other Kyoshi Warriors, are they here?
01:44No. I don't know where they are. They locked me in here because I'm the leader.
01:48What she got up to while locked away was left a mystery, until the comic Suki Alone was released.
01:54It covers her entire time in prison, alongside multiple childhood flashbacks, giving Suki needed
02:00characterization.
02:01We had to.
02:03Come on, come on.
02:05She befriends a thief, Biyu, and together, they grow secret food supplies for the prisoners.
02:10This sweet friendship soon sours, with Biyu snitching to the warden, who sends Suki to solitary
02:15confinement. On release, she almost kills Biyu, but gives up when she turns to begging.
02:21The comic ends with Sokka and Zuko arriving.
02:23Oh, good. You guys have met.
02:26Actually, we met a long time ago.
02:28We did?
02:29Yeah. You kind of burned down my village.
02:32Oh, sorry about that. Nice to see you again.
02:37Number 8. Are there other bending types?
02:40I met a waterbender who lived in a swamp and could control the vines by bending the water
02:44inside.
02:45You can take it even further.
02:47The basic types of bending are water, earth, fire, and air. In the original series, we also
02:52get to see bending energy, metal, lightning, and blood. They barely scratched the surface,
02:58but subsequent comics and The Legend of Korra expanded heavily upon them.
03:01Incredible.
03:03You're a lava bender.
03:05I know. I just found out.
03:08Toph's trailblazing metal bending gets heavily developed, with her metal bending academy becoming
03:13a major school. The Republic City Police Force even became specialized metal benders.
03:18Lava bending also appears and is later taught by Toph's academy. Lightning generation becomes
03:24widespread, powering Republic City's generators. Blood bending becomes more common too, with antagonist
03:30Y'Kon mastering the technique, without requiring a full moon.
03:33Y'Kon, you won't get away with this.
03:39Republic City's mine, Avatar.
03:42Number 7. Did the Southern Water Tribe recover?
03:45Katara and Sokka's home had seen better days before Aang's discovery, being close to extinction.
03:50After the gang aided the Northern Water Tribe, they began sending aid to the South.
03:54I've decided to go to the South Pole. Some other benders and healers want to join me.
04:00It's time we helped rebuild our sister tribe.
04:03It returns in the comics and The Legend of Korra, where we see major improvements.
04:07Hakoda became head chieftain, and his old village was replaced with a grand city.
04:12It's a shame the Southerners have abandoned all connections to the spirits,
04:16even during the most hallowed times.
04:18I've always loved the Glacier Spirits Festival. It's fun.
04:21The South industrialized, finding tons of crude oil under the ice.
04:26The North's influence gradually increased, but this meant they became prosperous by Korra's lifetime.
04:31A civil war soon broke out, with the South coming out on top and winning independence.
04:35By the series' end, the tribe grows bigger than ever before, entering an era of prosperity.
04:41I've realized that even though we should learn from those who came before us,
04:46we must also forge our own path.
04:48Number 6. What about the Fire Nation colonies?
04:50Yeah, the colonies, of course. The Fire Nation colonies in the Earth Kingdom.
04:56The Promise is a comic set directly after Avatar.
04:59It focuses on the Harmony Restoration Movement, a campaign thought up by Aang,
05:03which seeks to transfer Fire Nation colonials back to the Fire Nation.
05:07Now what do we do?
05:09This is when you start dancing.
05:11I don't think my parents want me dancing in a cave.
05:14It went smoothly at first, until getting to the older colonies,
05:18with interracial families and citizens who never lived in the Fire Nation.
05:22One colonist attempted to kill Zuko, motivating him to erase the colony,
05:26until he realized the citizens of both nations lived in peace.
05:30Zuko decided to reform these colonies instead, prompting the Earth King to employ force.
05:35Thankfully, Aang saved the day, and these colonies later joined the United Republic of Nations.
05:40A society where benders and non-benders from all over the world could live and thrive together in peace and harmony.
05:49They named the capital of this great land Republic City.
05:53Number 5. What's Azula's fate?
05:55There's something off about her.
05:57I can't explain it, but she's slipping.
05:59Despite being one of the Fire Nation's strongest, Azula's madness got the better of her.
06:03As soon as the show ends, she's given immediate psychiatric care.
06:07Eventually, she and Zuko set out to find their mom.
06:10But as you might expect, she's plotting to dethrone Zuko and kill their mother.
06:15What choice do I have?
06:16Trust is for fools.
06:17Fear is the only reliable way.
06:20Even you fear me.
06:22After finding her, she's met with love, confusing a still-wild Azula, who runs away.
06:27Her next action is helping her buddies escape the mental institution they kept her in.
06:31Together, they start kidnapping children, but Zuko stops it.
06:36She later visits a temple, where a monk convinces her to address her issues, almost finding clarity.
06:42Disappointingly, Azula rejects the attempt, deciding redemption isn't for her, and wanders off solo.
06:48The royal procession is dead weight.
06:50If I want to catch my prey, I must be agile, nimble.
06:53Number 4. How do non-benders view the world?
06:57Benders are the minority, yet they rule the world.
06:59Causing the non-benders to feel marginalized.
07:02This issue gets little focus in Avatar, but causes a major conflict in Legend of Korra, book 1.
07:08Benders like this girl only use their power to oppress us!
07:13What? I'm not oppressing anyone!
07:16You're...
07:17You're oppressing yourself!
07:19That didn't even make sense!
07:21In Republic City, the Equalist Party gains prominence, believing bending is a form of oppression and hoping to eradicate it.
07:29They're experts at chi-blocking, utilizing radical methods, often forms of terrorism.
07:34Turns out their leader was a bloodbender, which hampers their support.
07:38You traitor! I dedicated my life to you!
07:41By the show's end, the Equalists are still active under a new leader, Yoshiro.
07:46Some Equalists are pacifists, but Yoshiro is not one, idolizing Amon and opting to use violence if possible.
07:53You benders need to understand, there's no place in the world for you anymore.
07:58Number 3. Did the Airbender Nation recover?
08:01It wasn't your fault, but you were right. And if firebenders found this temple, that means they found the other ones, too. I really am the last airbender.
08:10A year after Ozai's defeat, Aang finds his fan club, which he converts into air acolytes.
08:16They preserve pieces of air nomad culture, seeking to uphold their customs.
08:20Aang's son Tenzin then becomes the next airbender.
08:23A subsequent harmonic convergence gives numerous non-benders airbending powers.
08:27Look! I'm airbending!
08:31Ah! Wow, that still hurt a lot.
08:35This is a giant boost to the Air Nation's recovery, with Tenzin and Korra working together to gather and train airbenders.
08:42They're significantly different from the airbenders of Aang's era, with new clothing styles and popularizing wingsuits.
08:48By the end of Legend of Korra, the Air Nation is a major political entity, which Aang would be proud of.
08:54I hope we have enough for an army.
08:57I want to be a commander like Uncle Boomi.
09:00Air nomads don't have armies, Nilo.
09:02But maybe there will be enough to fill the temples again.
09:06What's wrong, Daddy?
09:07I just wish your grandfather were here to see this.
09:10Number 2
09:10Where did the Avatar come from?
09:12After one Avatar dies, another is born to fill their place.
09:16This cycle continues eternally.
09:18That's most of the information given in The Last Airbender.
09:22The Legend of Korra sheds significant light on the origins.
09:25Stop! Or you'll destroy everything!
09:28This doesn't concern you, human!
09:30Originally, there were two ancient spirits, Rava and Batu, who represent light and dark respectively.
09:36When Wan accidentally frees Batu, he sets off on a journey to fix his mistake, gaining elemental powers from four separate lion turtles and eventually fusing with Rava.
09:45He's controlling all four elements.
09:48Wan, I have to leave your body or I'll destroy you.
09:52No!
09:53It's working!
09:55If you leave, the fighting will start again.
09:57The act brought balance to the spirits and allowed Wan and Rava to trap Batu again.
10:01Sadly, Batu's influence lives on in the conflicts between humans.
10:05Though Wan is unable to bring peace in his lifetime, the Avatar cycle is set, ensuring his mission will continue.
10:12There wasn't enough time.
10:15Don't worry.

10:39Number 1.
10:40What happened to Zuko's mother?
10:42Zuko, please, my love, listen to me.
10:45Everything I've done, I've done to protect you.
10:48One of the biggest questions left was the fate of Zuko's mother, addressed in the comic The Search.
10:53Previous Fire Lord Azulon forced Ozai to marry Avatar Roku's granddaughter Ursa, thinking she would birth powerful children.
11:00Azulon and Ozai schemed to murder Zuko, but Ursa retaliated, having Azulon poisoned.
11:06She knew I wanted the throne, and she proposed a plan.
11:10A plan in which I would become Fire Lord, and your life would be spared.
11:15The condition was that Ozai forced Ursa to never return.
11:19Ursa sailed to her home village, falling in love with her old boyfriend.
11:23The mother of faces not only changed her appearance, but also wiped her memory.
11:27She became Noriko and had another child, Kiyi.
11:30Upon learning this, Zuko convinces Ursa to move back to the Fire Nation, granting her the title of Lady.
11:36No matter how things may seem to change, never forget who you are.
11:41Are there any unsolved mysteries you'd like to see them answer?
11:44Leave them in the comments section.
11:45I don't need your help. I'll find it myself.
11:50Good luck!
