PLDT drubs Queensland Pirates

PLDT swept Australia's Queensland Pirates, 25-19, 25-12, 25-12, at the PhilSports Arena on Sunday, April 20 for a winning start at the AVC Women's Champions League.

Savi Davison banged 14 points and logged eight digs to lead the home team High Speed Hitters, who gained the lead in Pool D standings.

Making her Philippine return, former Petro Gazz import Wilma Salas notched 10 points and 15 digs to aid PLDT this time around.

Alisha Stevens racked up eight points and seven digs for the Pirates, who started strong with a 6-1 run but faltered for the rest of the way against the Philippine side.

PLDT's win made it a double victory for Philippine clubs on Sunday after Creamline blanked Jordan's Al Naser in Pool A, 29-27, 25-20, 25-19.

00:00What did you say to your team after the first start of the first set to get your group?
00:07What did you say?
00:09Relaxed first.
00:11The excitement was when we joined the first set.
00:16It was a bit stiff when we started the first set.
00:19But it was a player.
00:21They were able to play and play and play.
00:24It was really good for the team.
00:30So, stay calm.
00:32For you, Mika, personally,
00:34what did you say?
00:36It was the first time you played against an international team.
00:40And what did you see today?
00:42Of course, we were very grateful for this opportunity
00:46because we didn't give everyone a chance to do this,
00:49especially for ABC.
00:51So, coming to this tournament,
00:53we were very excited for this tournament.
00:54Even if it happened to our BVL,
00:56we had a chance to redeem ourselves.
01:00So, the fact that we joined the team,
01:04it was a great opportunity.
01:09John, Mark, you're saying that Wilma,
01:12how was the experience playing back here in the Philippines,
01:15but this time, a different, three different,
01:18with BVL?
01:19Yes, I'm so happy for coming back here in the Philippines.
01:24This time, I played for PLDT.
01:26I feel so happy because I feel like a family in this team.
01:32Incredible girls, super coach.
01:35So, nothing more to say about this
01:40because I feel like I'm home, yes.
01:42How was the decision-making process for you?
01:46Like, PLDT made a call?
01:48Ah, okay.
01:49I finished my season in Italy
01:52and called Arnold Radler,
01:55called to me,
01:56and, Wilma, okay, yeah, you are ready.
01:59Okay, I'm ready, and I go to you,
02:01I go to Philippines, so, yes.
02:04This is the decision, easy decision.
02:06And for Savvy, coming off a strong performance in the PBL,
02:11how was the one-week sort of break for you to prepare and recharge for this tournament
02:17and playing for the Philippines for the first time?
02:19I think the silver lining is that we got to rest coming off the PBL quarterfinals.
02:28And we did, we went back to the basics during training and stuff,
02:32and obviously welcoming Wilma and trying to build that chemistry that we didn't have prior.
02:37So, I'm glad that we did have the time to kind of prepare for the ABC
02:40because it's going to be pretty, you know, difficult in the upcoming games.
02:49If you need lunch or reminders that were able to prepare,
02:52you have to 최근 to the new
03:11warm-up from other people.
03:17Let's check that out.
