Cosmonaut Aleksey Ovchinin hands over command of ISS to Japanese astronaut Takuya Onishi

Russian cosmonaut Aleksey Ovchinin hands over the key to the International Space Station to Japanese astronaut Takuya Onishi as part of a change of command ceremony on April 18, 2025. Onishi thanked his Russian counterpart, adding that it was particularly 'special' to take over command from Ovchinin because of their shared history. Both Onishi and Ovchinin made their first trip to the ISS in 2016 as part of Expedition 48. He also wished Ovchinin and the departing crew a 'safe and soft landing.'
