00:00We have all these rich stories to tell.
00:05The fashion, the slang, the sense of humor.
00:08It just grabs you right from the beginning.
00:10This is indigenous. This is Arctic.
00:14This is just normal life.
00:17Can you not?
00:18Not what?
00:19Watch me?
00:20Yeah, yeah.
00:25This is so exciting for the territory for Inuit,
00:28an indigenous film and television.
00:30I wouldn't want to film it anywhere else
00:32because the support of the community and the love,
00:34the outpouring love that we've received as we've been filming
00:37has been very empowering and a huge push forward
00:40to make sure that we do the best work.
00:42We take our cues from the sun, wind, and the snow formations.
00:46Colin, I can feel my face.
00:47Okay.
00:48I was really, really fortunate with a project like this one
00:51to have an indigenous-led, created by indigenous women show.
00:55I was given the pilot script and I really was in from about page five,
01:01which is very unusual.
01:03This was one of those projects where you go,
01:05oh my gosh, this is something very special.
01:09You feel good?
01:10Fit as a fiddle, ready to diddle.
01:12Mm-mm.
01:13That was workplace inappropriate.
01:15I'm nervous.
01:16As a kid who grew up in the Arctic, not necessarily feeling seen,
01:20but loving the movies, to me now as a mother,
01:23I want her to have something that she feels seen in as well.
01:26This is very reflective of what our lives are like today.
01:29And that's only possible by having Inuit as writers,
01:32Inuit as showrunners, as producers, Inuit working in the departments.
01:36We sourced a lot of local talent, art talent, creative talent,
01:41to work with and in our crew to ensure that authenticity.
01:46Everything from sourcing the blanket with the handles
01:49so that we could do the opening teaser,
01:51hand-sewn, custom-made sealskin hunting gear,
01:55blending of earrings and costume.
01:58Are you a drug dealer?
02:00No.
02:02Do I look like them?
02:04We have a lot of background that are locals,
02:06and giving people like that an opportunity to see
02:09how this stuff works and how TV gets made,
02:12it just makes it all feel a lot more possible,
02:14and I think that'll happen when the show comes out as well,
02:16and ideally, a lot of Inuit creatives will be able to look at it
02:19and realize the potential of their craft.
02:21Seeing, like, the people that I grew up with
02:23and this crew of people on this show come together
02:26and interact has been, like, whoa!
02:30Is there a trick to this thing?
02:32Yeah, the trick was to get you to bend over.
02:38The series doesn't shy away from confronting
02:41some real and relevant issues,
02:43but always through a comedic lens
02:45and always, at the same time, honest and genuine.
02:49What are you talking about?
02:50Is he saying this to make you look cool?
02:52I think he's trying to play white savior.
02:54No, no, no, I'm not white-saving anything.
02:58In this first season, we are able to touch on a lot,
03:02and I think that's the nice thing
03:04about doing this show as a comedy.
03:06We get to talk about so many issues within our community
03:09and so many difficult topics
03:11while delivering them in a way that people are like,
03:13oh, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
03:15Are we the problem?
03:17Probably.
03:19It also exposes an audience that may have never experienced
03:24or understood or have heard about these things before,
03:27like the housing crisis or substance abuse
03:29or residential schools or difficult family dynamics
03:32that are so common up here.
03:34It's just a privilege to be here.
03:36It's not every day you get to film something
03:39in an incredible environment.
03:41It feels a little like we're throwing a diary
03:44a little bit out into the world.
03:46It's a little scary, but it's also incredibly cathartic.
03:49I hope people feel represented in that.
03:51I hope people see their own friendships
03:53and their own family relationships
03:55and personal relationships in that.
03:57Enjoy the silliness and the chaos and the drama
04:00and all of that.
04:01It's been real fun.
04:03Tough act to follow.
04:05If I knew we were going to improvise,
04:08I would have prepared something.
04:10Okay.
04:11Okay.
