Former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin has been awarded RM2.5mil in damages in a defamation lawsuit he filed against Mohd Rasyiq Mohd Alwi, also known as Ustaz Abu Syafiq, over social media posts related to the Covid-19 vaccine made three years ago.  High Court Judge Raja Ahmad Mohzanuddin Shah Raja Mohzan also awarded RM50,000 in costs to the former Rembau MP. 00:20in costs to the former Rembau MP. On January 25, 2022, Khairi sued Mohamed Rashik Mohamed

00:28Alwi, also known as Ustaz Abu Shafiq, for making several defamatory statements, including

00:34posting three videos and photos on Ustaz Abu Shafiq's Instagram on October 20, 2021, and

00:42January 6 and 10, 2022. Khairi claimed that the defamatory statements meant, among other

00:49things, that he lied and deceived the public about having been given the COVID-19 vaccine

00:54and received the third dose, as well as falsifying information regarding his vaccination status.

01:01Justice Raja Ahmad Mohzanuddin ruled that the defamatory statements were unquestionably false,

01:07baseless, unsubstantiated, and unwarranted. The judge further said there was not a shred of

01:13evidence to show that Khairi, as then Minister of Health, failed to manage and curtail the spread

01:19of COVID-19 as suggested by the defendant. Khairi, when met by the media, said he was

01:24grateful for the court's decision.
