00:00Time for our Premier League predictions then,
00:01our Easter Premier League predictions
00:03with the excellent Clive Allen.
00:05Clive, how was our week, by the way, last week?
00:07It wasn't too bad, was it?
00:09I think we did quite well.
00:10It was okay.
00:11I think there was a few strange results.
00:14And obviously, whenever we go into this Easter period,
00:16the games, intense period of games,
00:19we're on the line now, aren't we?
00:21And I think the fight for the Champions League
00:24and European football come the end of season
00:26could go to the very last kick
00:29and the very last game this season.
00:30It's going to be that close.
00:32Newcastle, well, they've come from nowhere
00:34with an amazing run.
00:35Five Premier League victories back-to-back.
00:38They've gone into third place.
00:39Absolutely.
00:40Well, let's start with the first game then.
00:42And it's Brentford versus Brighton.
00:44So, Brentford drew with Arsenal.
00:47They drew with Chelsea, didn't they?
00:48Whereas Brighton, another one of those funny teams,
00:51they now haven't won in six.
00:52They were looking great.
00:53And now they're looking a little bit wobbly.
00:55So, I'm going to go...
00:57And I don't know whether you...
00:58I'm going to go straight in with a 1-1.
00:59And I know it's going to be an easy prediction
01:02or sitting on the fence,
01:03but I'm just going to go with 1-1 on that one.
01:05What about you?
01:05I think Brighton are feeling the pressure.
01:07I don't think there's any pressure on Brentford.
01:09I think this is going to be a close game,
01:12but I'm going to go Brentford 2, Brighton 1.
01:14Home right.
01:16Well, what about Palace?
01:18One of your old teams.
01:19So, Palace against Bournemouth,
01:20now absolutely murdered.
01:22By the way, before we get into the rest of it,
01:26talking about Crystal Palace,
01:27there's Crystal Palace against Bournemouth,
01:29Eberici as a...
01:30And it's the old Panenka penalty situation.
01:34What do you make on it?
01:35Because we actually saw two, didn't we?
01:36And it was the same with the Bukayo Saka tribe one.
01:39I mean, obviously really made up for it a bit later.
01:43But where do you stand on the Panenka?
01:45They look great if they go in,
01:46but if they don't, they're just embarrassing.
01:48And that was one of the worst policies I've ever seen.
01:50I absolutely agree with you.
01:52The only way it's right is if you score.
01:53If you put it in the back of the net.
01:55If you don't, it's pretty embarrassing
01:57because I just think you're trying to be too clever.
02:01You really are.
02:02If it works, fine.
02:03Because you've taken the penalty kick
02:05and you've scored.
02:06If you don't, I think it's quite embarrassing.
02:09And Eze's one was a poor one
02:11because he didn't even chip it.
02:12He's supposed to chip it over the goalkeeper.
02:14And he rolled it along the floor.
02:16Keeper didn't even move.
02:18It's almost like, wait, if the keeper moves,
02:19and it was like, steppy, steppy, steppy.
02:22And then it was like,
02:23I don't think he even would have made it to the goal
02:25if the keeper hadn't been there.
02:29But I think more importantly, Paul,
02:32two games where they've conceded five Crystal Palace,
02:35which for Oliver Glesner would be a little bit alarming
02:39with the semi-final of the FA Cup coming up.
02:41I saw them play at Man City last week
02:43and they started really well.
02:45I thought, wow, this is a Palace team,
02:48in form, full of confidence.
02:50They're going to beat City.
02:51And then City turned it on
02:53and literally blew them away.
02:55Defensively, they just looked unbalanced.
02:58Palace, they didn't look confident.
02:59And then they've gone to Newcastle
03:00and got beat five in the midweek.
03:02So, you can see some logic in my thinking here.
03:07I'm going to go Crystal Palace, one, Bournemouth, nil.
03:11They're going to keep a clean sheet.
03:13That has to be imperative for Crystal Palace.
03:16Okay.
03:16And Bournemouth feeling the pressure as well.
03:18They're, you know, they've got back to winning ways this week,
03:22but I think they're feeling the pressure
03:24in terms of qualifying for Europe as well.
03:26So, I'm going to go, yeah, Palace, one, Bournemouth, nil.
03:29It's funny, isn't it?
03:30There's a few teams this season.
03:31Bournemouth are one, Palace are one as well,
03:33where it's been a really good run,
03:35then a bad run, and then a decent run.
03:38And it's with Palace as well.
03:40It's like you say, it's not how you start,
03:41it's how you finish.
03:42And it seems like they're finishing
03:44the way they started the season
03:45because they were awful
03:46and then got on this really good run.
03:49And now, like you say, 10 goals in two games
03:51is a bit of a worry,
03:53but it's coming to an end
03:54as far as you're concerned then.
03:55I think they need to, one, have a clean sheet,
03:59be really solid, resilient.
04:01I think it's going to be a close game.
04:03And they're obviously focused.
04:05Their focus is now on the semi-final,
04:06the FA Cup.
04:07Yeah.
04:08Well, I'm going to go with a Palace win as well,
04:10but I'm going to go 2-1.
04:12So, Palace at 11th, 43, Bournemouth at 8th.
04:15See, they just need to get a few wins together
04:18towards the end of the season, Bournemouth.
04:19But, you know, beat Fulham
04:21and then drew with West Ham,
04:22lost to Ipswich, lost to Brentford.
04:23Right.
04:24So, we both agreed then on a Palace win.
04:26Next game then.
04:27Now, I wonder what you think about this one.
04:29Everton against Manchester City.
04:30Everton, they're just moving up
04:32and they're moving up
04:33and it's now 13th on 38 points.
04:35Manchester City, a fifth.
04:38So, they desperately need this Champions League place.
04:41After Palace,
04:43and they're on 55 points.
04:45I am going to go for an Everton win here, Clive.
04:48I don't know whether you agree with me on this,
04:51but above Manchester United and Spurs.
04:53They beat Forrest.
04:54True with Arsenal.
04:56And it's only Liverpool that seem to have beaten them recently.
04:59So, I'm actually going to go for an Everton win 2-1
05:01against Manchester City.
05:02What do you reckon?
05:03I think you're absolutely right.
05:05Everton found consistency under David Moyes.
05:07They've been resilient.
05:08They've won games.
05:10They've been in every game they've played under him.
05:12And I think it's a really tough game for City.
05:15City are in fifth.
05:16And fifth place gets you into the Champions League now.
05:19Yeah.
05:19Because of Arsenal's win and qualification
05:23for the semi-final of the Champions League,
05:25that opens up fifth place for Champions League qualification.
05:28So, they're now in fifth place City.
05:30So, they're in a Champions League position.
05:33I was impressed by them against Palace last weekend.
05:35They were fed.
05:36Kevin Bruyne, the Bruyne, was unbelievable.
05:40Everything that you know he's capable of doing,
05:42he did against Palace.
05:44Assists, goals.
05:45He scored a wonderful free kick.
05:47I just got that little bit of a feeling
05:50that this is Man City closing the season out.
05:54They know what they're going for.
05:55Invariably, it's normally, obviously,
05:57the Premier League title.
05:59Yeah.
05:59But they know they're going for Champions League qualification.
06:02I think it's going to be a really good game.
06:04Really close game.
06:05I'm going to go Everton 1, Manchester City 2.
06:08Right.
06:08Okay.
06:09So, 2-1 in the other direction.
06:10Well, what's going to happen with Manchester City?
06:12Because Kevin De Bruyne, you know,
06:14like you say, he was magnificent.
06:16But then he may go missing in this one.
06:18And he's coming to the end.
06:20We don't know exactly what's going to happen.
06:21What do you think?
06:22Is it going to be Saudi Arabia?
06:24Or is there another move, do you think, in this country?
06:27There's still, you're all sort of out of wages, isn't it, really?
06:30Yeah, possibly.
06:32He obviously knows himself, exactly how he feels physically,
06:37how he can deal with the Premier League.
06:40Maybe it might be the richest of Saudi Arabia.
06:44I have to say...
06:45You don't need them.
06:47I suppose there's no such thing as not having enough money, though,
06:50is there?
06:50I mean, it's always...
06:51No, absolutely.
06:52Yeah, and there's nothing that he hasn't done
06:56playing for Manchester City, winning the Premier League,
06:58winning the Champions League.
06:59He's done everything he can for them.
07:03You know, I think he'll go down as one of their greatest players.
07:08So there's nothing more he can do.
07:10So it should be a really...
07:12I think it'll be a wonderful send-off from City supporters
07:16and the football club for what he's contributed.
07:19Fine.
07:19So 1-2, 2-1 from me.
07:22Next one, West Ham versus Southampton.
07:25Poor old Southampton.
07:25I don't think anybody ever predicts them to get anything out of anything.
07:29They're 10 points.
07:30So they're...
07:30Is it one point?
07:31They're still one point away from Derby.
07:32Is that right?
07:33They need the point, yes.
07:34They need the point.
07:36They're already the earliest team, Rerico.
07:39He said, and that was at Spurs.
07:41So now, I don't know.
07:42What do you have to play for in a situation like that?
07:45What do players think?
07:46Is it themselves?
07:46And then just thinking, I may get a move out of this.
07:49Or it must be the most difficult time.
07:53It is a very difficult time.
07:55I have played in a relegated team and it's pretty awful.
07:59You are, as a professional, trying to show what you're capable of.
08:03Whether it, as you rightly say, could be a move in the summer somewhere else,
08:07stay in the Premier League.
08:09Or, you know, Southampton will already be focusing on rebuilding,
08:13looking at who they're going to keep, who's going,
08:15what they're going to assemble for a challenge in the Championship next season.
08:20The pressure's off.
08:21They're down.
08:22They're done.
08:22I thought they were pretty poor at Spurs a few weeks ago.
08:27Very, very disappointing in the way that, just the way that they played that game,
08:31considering they were going to be relegated had they got beaten.
08:35So, I think today...
08:37Sorry, Clive.
08:38It's not even about the skill of the players or the tactics.
08:41It's just about heart.
08:43And there was...
08:43There didn't even seem to be that, did there?
08:45And that's what you...
08:46No.
08:46All supporters want to see from their side, is to know that they're given 100%.
08:50I mean, I'm going to use every cliche going.
08:52But it's true.
08:53That's what you want to see.
08:54You always forgive players when you see them give everything.
08:57And the fans are all cheering them and support...
09:00I mean, sometimes, you know, you cheer them even if they're not doing well,
09:05but they're trying hard.
09:07But there was nothing there.
09:08And I'm surprised they got the reception they did.
09:09I thought the Southampton supporters were incredible at Spurs.
09:15They really were.
09:16I just didn't quite understand the approach, their mentality, the players' mentality.
09:20They didn't take a chance.
09:22They looked like they were playing scared.
09:25It was like, I'm just going to...
09:27They didn't want to get on the ball.
09:29They tried to defend.
09:30They tried to defend nil-nil, which I just find...
09:33I found incredible.
09:34So, I think West Ham still need...
09:38I know it looks like the bottom three have gone.
09:41But I still think West Ham, who are obviously fourth bottom,
09:44they don't want to finish there.
09:46And this is a chance for them to pick up three valuable points.
09:48I'm going to go West Ham 2, Southampton nil.
09:50I'm the same.
09:51I've got 2-0.
09:52Because West Ham have won since February.
09:53I mean, that's just crazy.
09:55So, yeah, it's the time you want to play Southampton.
09:58So, 2-0.
09:59I absolutely agree with you there.
10:01Right.
10:01Aston Villa are playing Newcastle.
10:03So, Newcastle are on fire.
10:05There's no question about that.
10:07I think...
10:08Is it six on the trot they've won now?
10:09I think it's...
10:10In all competitions, yeah.
10:11That's including the League Cup final.
10:13Five Premier League wins back-to-back.
10:15They are, as you say, Paul, absolutely on fire.
10:18What a brilliant...
10:19Obviously, a magnificent win in the League Cup.
10:21But they've harried that in.
10:23I think the euphoria of that...
10:25I'm sure they've been partying, but they're enjoying themselves.
10:28And they are playing some...
10:29They're playing some scintillating football,
10:31which the Newcastle supporters will be enjoying.
10:35They're still partying, for sure, the Newcastle supporters.
10:37Yeah.
10:38And this is a massive game.
10:40Obviously, Villa off the back of a...
10:42An unbelievable effort in the Champions League against PSG.
10:46Nearly turning it around.
10:49They will want more of Champions League football next season.
10:51So, this, for me, is the game of the week.
10:54It really is.
10:55And Newcastle, let's face it, they could end up runners-up, couldn't they,
10:59the way they're going?
10:59They could go second.
11:01They could certainly get close to Arsenal in second place at the moment.
11:06I think they've leapfrogged Notts Forest.
11:09They're in third as it stands.
11:11They're on this brilliant run.
11:12And I just think they might continue it.
11:14I think the Champions League exploits of Villa will just take a little bit out of them.
11:19I'm going to go Aston Villa one at Newcastle two.
11:22I've gone exactly the same.
11:24Yep.
11:25Two-one Newcastle as well.
11:26I think they're just too good at the moment.
11:28And let's go to Sunday.
11:29So, West London derby, then Fulham against Chelsea.
11:33Fulham, a mixed bag.
11:34There's no question about that.
11:36Chelsea, well, they're a funny old team as well, to be honest with you, aren't they?
11:40Let's be honest.
11:40Ninth, Fulham.
11:41Chelsea are sick.
11:42They are going for that Champions League.
11:44But are they good enough, do you think, to get in the Champions League places, Chelsea?
11:48I think beginning of the season, they showed what they're capable of.
11:52I think their lack of consistency has certainly cost them.
11:56I think there's a few areas of the field that they still need to address Chelsea,
12:00although they brought in so many players.
12:02I think Fulham have done really well.
12:05Michael Silva's done a good job there.
12:07I think this is going to be a really tight West London derby.
12:10And I'm going to go Fulham one, Chelsea one.
12:12I've got the same.
12:14I promise I'm not going to copy it.
12:15I'll go first next time, but I've got one one as well.
12:18No problem.
12:19Ipswich and Arsenal.
12:21Right, Ipswich then are 18th.
12:23Desperately, Ninth.
12:24I mean, they're just clinging on by their fingernails, aren't they?
12:27Yeah.
12:27They're 18th, they're on 21 points.
12:29We know all about Arsenal, of course, and that amazing performance.
12:33There's no question about that.
12:34I mean, talking on a Spurs perspective, you just put your hands up and say you can't argue with what they did.
12:40Two great performances to go over to the Bernabeu and do what they did as well.
12:46You know, are they taking their eye off the ball a little bit now, do you think?
12:51Or does that not exist?
12:53Because it's all about the Champions League.
12:55They're not going to win the title.
12:57It looks like Champions League for next year, whether they win it or not, it's pretty much guaranteed.
13:01So, what do you do if you're playing, if you're Mikel Arteta right now?
13:05Just more of the game?
13:06Well, you're keeping a whole squad alive.
13:09You're keeping everybody fit.
13:11You're resting players.
13:12Obviously, you know, the priority is now going to be that semi-final Champions League semi-final.
13:19A game against PSG, which is, again, what a mouth-watering prospect that is.
13:23But I just think the whole club will be, you know, will be buoyed by the two performances, the result, qualified for that semi-final berth.
13:32I think Ipswich, I'm the Kieran Keller, they've given everything they can.
13:36I really feel that, you know, it's been a monumental effort from them.
13:41And you really can't ask for much more.
13:45They've literally been in every game.
13:47I know Spurs went there and won four.
13:48But not too many teams have beaten them heavily.
13:52They've given everybody a run for their money.
13:54And I think they'll give Arsenal a run for their money in this one.
13:57But I'm going to let you go first.
13:58Okay.
13:59I'm going to give Ipswich a goal.
14:01I am going to give Ipswich a goal.
14:02And I'm going to say 1-2.
14:03I've given Ipswich a goal.
14:051-2 for me.
14:061-2.
14:06Arsenal are just 1-2.
14:08I think it'll be close.
14:09But I think Arsenal will just come through.
14:11I think Mikel Arteta will make a few changes.
14:14He'll give a few fringe players the opportunity.
14:17He'll take one or two out just to manage them going to that semi-final.
14:23But yeah, Ipswich 1, Arsenal 2 for me.
14:26How good is Declan Weiss?
14:28He's £100 million worth.
14:30There's absolutely no doubt about that.
14:32I mean, that's when you get clubs that will spend huge money on one player or anything.
14:38That's one and it's paid off more.
14:41He's worth more than that, isn't he?
14:43Oh, Paul, he's two performances.
14:45He's three kicks in the first leg.
14:47I just thought when you go into the burner bar and you have the presence and confidence
14:53to play in the way that he did, it just shows.
14:57I think it was fantastic recruitment from Arsenal.
15:01They wanted a player of that stature.
15:04They needed a player who had that.
15:06And Declan Weiss has showed it.
15:08And he showed it in the biggest game.
15:09So, yeah, at the moment, one of, if not one of the best midfield players in the world.
15:15Yeah, yeah.
15:16Okay, Manchester United against Wolves.
15:18Right, so Man United then 14th and 38.
15:22It's a bad season for Manchester United.
15:24And 16th, Wolves.
15:27Wolves look like the world.
15:28They've escaped it, but they're having a little run now.
15:30Obviously, they beat Spurs 4-2 at Molyneux last weekend.
15:36And Manchester United, you know, I fancy...
15:39And they got beat by Newcastle.
15:41I fancy Wolves to win this at Old Trafford.
15:45I'm going to be 2-1 Wolves.
15:472-1 Wolves.
15:48I think Wolves has done brilliantly.
15:50A great performance against Spurs, scoring four.
15:53Manchester United, not one in three.
15:56I think that's been the season.
15:58Maybe pick up a result.
15:59Men don't win for two or three games.
16:01A few draws.
16:03Inconsistency.
16:04You just don't know what you're going to get from Man United.
16:06I see them just edging this one.
16:08I think it'll be...
16:09I think it'll be almost a demand of the supporters at Old Trafford that they get a result.
16:16I don't think it'll be easy.
16:18I think Wolves are confident.
16:19They're safe.
16:20They're enjoying themselves.
16:21Difficult game for Man United, but I'm going to go Man U 1, Wolves 0.
16:25OK, so when you say about demand, though, how much are you aware when you're playing of
16:31what the fans are thinking, what they're saying, mood of fans?
16:37Because I imagine fans have the right to react any way they want, but it's never going to
16:44work.
16:45Is it when fans feel maybe tension in the crowd?
16:49Does that affect you?
16:50Are you always aware of that when you're playing?
16:53Yeah, you can feel it.
16:54You can feel how they're feeling in terms of what you're producing.
17:02It's more of a din rather than being clear, but certainly when they are behind you, when
17:08they're cheering, there's no better feeling than that.
17:10But when you know the unrest is there, you can feel that unrest.
17:14It certainly can affect you because there's a pressure.
17:17You're almost even trying that little bit harder, and that makes the whole thing even
17:21worse.
17:24Manchester United, biggest club in the world, or certainly one of, certainly has been the
17:28biggest club in the world for many, many years.
17:31Playing for Man United comes with great expectation and demand, and that is none more so than now
17:38the position they find themselves in.
17:39So, yeah, a difficult time for Amer in the new manager.
17:43So, your thing is, if you're a player and they're thinking, well, you know, we need to sign
17:46some new players if money is available.
17:48If you're a player, is it still going to be the draw for a player to go there or not anymore?
17:56Because players are young as well, and they won't know everything about, I mean, they know
18:01Manchester United, but they won't know everything about the Ferguson history because as the years
18:05go on, the further of that is away.
18:08So, is there a draw still to Manchester United or not anymore?
18:11Perhaps not as there was when United were in their pomp, when they were, you know, when
18:17they were winning the Premier League year after year, qualifying for the Champions League.
18:22I do think there's different markets.
18:24There's players who certainly pitched themselves in the Champions League or European market for
18:30playing European football each year.
18:32The exposure, the finances, everything that that brings.
18:36The Premier League is always a draw.
18:38Well, Manchester United will always be a draw, but I think if you're a player who not necessarily
18:43have ambitions, but you feel that you want to play at the highest level, maybe you're
18:48not, you're looking at, no disrespect, you might be looking at a Chelsea, a Newcastle rather
18:54than Manchester United, which is in years gone by, unthinkable.
18:58It really was.
18:59Yeah.
18:59Yeah.
18:59And wait till you get back.
19:00And then there's got to be a point where they've got to try and build to get back.
19:04And it's not easy.
19:05There's no, no, not easy.
19:06It's all going right, is there?
19:07Right.
19:08Two more games then.
19:09One left on Sunday and one that's on Monday.
19:12Leicester, Liverpool.
19:13So 13 points clear at the top.
19:16It's done and dusted.
19:17They need two, two wins will do it.
19:19But then again, if Arsenal lose, I suppose that's it.
19:21It's done.
19:23Leicester, nil.
19:25Liverpool, three.
19:26And I reckon you are going to say exactly the same.
19:30You're absolutely right.
19:31Yeah.
19:32Spot on.
19:32I can't see Liverpool slipping up.
19:35I think they're going to, I think they're going to canter over the finish line.
19:39Obviously, they've got nothing else to play for.
19:41They haven't got European distractions.
19:44They're just focused on finishing this off.
19:47And what has been an unbelievable season.
19:49Yes, they would have wanted to go further into the Champions League.
19:53Yes, they would have wanted to win the League Cup.
19:56But there's no doubt the Premier League title is the big one.
20:01And I see them comfortably beating Leicester.
20:06Yeah.
20:06Yeah, absolutely.
20:07So finally, then the last game.
20:09And this is Monday.
20:09So here we are.
20:10I'm going to leave you to do the first one.
20:13Because I hate predicting losses.
20:15But we've been right over the last couple of games.
20:1915th Tottenham Hotspur.
20:20Then with 37 points playing Nottingham Forest.
20:23You're in fourth with 57.
20:26It's at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
20:28Monday night, Clive, with your heads up.
20:32Well, yeah, I'm trying to be sensible here.
20:37Forest have lost their last two Premier League games.
20:39They're really coming under pressure in respect of that Champions League qualification.
20:44Everybody was saying it was done.
20:46Liverpool win the title.
20:47Arsenal second.
20:48Forest the third.
20:49And they're going into the Champions League.
20:52Oh, how it's changed.
20:53And how close it's going to be.
20:55I just think Spurs are going to win this one.
20:58And I know you say to me, well, you think Spurs are going to win every game.
21:01I haven't recently, but I do think Spurs will win this one too well.
21:052-1.
21:10How about...
21:11I'll say, I've got 2-1 Forest written down.
21:17As much as it hurts me, I'm just going to say it, put it out there, and then we can leave it there.
21:21Oh, absolutely.
21:23Clive, always a pleasure.
21:24Happy Easter.
21:25Thanks a lot.
21:26And to you.
