North Korea is building what appears to be its biggest warship ever. New satellite images of the Nampo Shipyard show what analysts say is a guided-missile frigate.

00:04New satellite images of the Nampo shipyard captured this month show what analysts say
00:08is a guided missile frigate.
00:10It looks to be about 460 feet long, making it the largest warship North Korea has made.
00:15It's a bit smaller though than a US Navy Constellation class frigate.
00:19The ship is still being fitted out, that's when they install weapons and systems before
00:22handing it over to the Navy.
00:24And it's covered in netting, a classic North Korean move to block satellite observation.
00:29Beyond its size, unusual is what it could be armed with.
00:32Experts think it might carry a vertical launch system, carrying missiles.
00:36Anti-ship, land attack, even air defense.
00:39That would be a big first for North Korea's Navy.
00:41So why now?
00:42North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been pushing to modernize the fleet, and he's been visiting
00:46this shipyard a lot.
00:47North Korea's Navy is big, with about 60,000 people and hundreds of vessels.
00:52That's mostly coastal, old tech, with limited reach.
00:55Though a ship the size of the new frigate is unusual.
00:58Some analysts say it's more about showing power than projecting it.
01:02North Korea isn't exactly trying to dominate the seas.
01:04But if this frigate becomes operational, it'll mark a new chapter in their naval development.
