00:00Because horror films are filled with ropey special effects, awful acting, absurd premises

00:04and atrocious dialogue, a lot of scary B-movies leave viewers laughing rather than screaming.

00:12As a result, it's not too surprising then that cinema is filled with spoofs revolving

00:17around Slash's monsters and aliens, and even sometimes sharks.

00:22Consequently, there are plenty of parodies that probably escape the attention of even

00:26the most devoted movie buff, so with that in mind, I'm Josh from WhatCultureHorror and

00:31these are 10 horror movie parodies you've never seen.

00:3410.

00:35Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the 13th

00:38Because Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the 13th came out 3 months after Scary

00:43Movie, it was seen as a cheap ripoff that was rushed out of production.

00:46Ironically though, Shriek actually went into production before Scary Movie did, but since

00:52it had the misfortune of being released second, it gave people the erroneous impression that

00:56it was riding the tails of Scary Movie success.

01:00Now even though Shriek has the same structure as Scary Movie, its style is far zanier and

01:06not really for the better.

01:08I mean, this time around the mass killer is building a nuclear bomb.

01:12The school principal is played by Coolio, and one of the characters has a twin cousin,

01:18which is like, that's kind of a joke because you know twins can't be… you know.

01:24Now Shriek isn't by any stretch of the imagination a great comedy, and some of the jokes, in fact

01:30most of the jokes, have aged like 4 month old milk, but there are a lot of people who

01:35do prefer it out there over Scary Movie.

01:39Beaster Day Beaster Day, which spoofs the stop motion special

01:43Here Comes Peter Cottontail, is one of those movies that makes you think, how did this project

01:49get made? The film itself centres around a giant man-eating rabbit who rampages through

01:54a town on Easter, hence the title. Because the mayor refuses to act as a nod to Jaws,

02:00it's up to an idiotic dog catcher and a failed actress to save the day. Although the budget

02:05was only $150,000, these special effects are so unpolished that it looks like the film costs

02:1110 times less. Almost every scene revolving around decapitation or dismemberment has distracting

02:18green screen effects, and also the beaster bunny itself looks more like a rat than a rabbit.

02:24Fido Fido takes place in an alternate reality where the government has regulated zombies,

02:30forcing them to perform menial jobs in society. Even though the zombies themselves are viewed as pets,

02:36young lad Timmy sees Fido as a friend and tries to bond with him, despite the obvious danger the

02:42reanimated creature poses. Despite the fact that Fido could have been just a silly comedy,

02:47it does successfully juggle complex themes about conformity, consumerism, and maintaining the

02:53stairs quo. As an added bonus, it is also very, very funny. The Timmy's trap down a well scene is

02:59ridiculous and it is hilarious. 7. Killer Piñata

03:04Killer Piñata is, unsurprisingly, about a killer piñata. After the titular character,

03:10if you can call them a character, watches a family smash his kind to pieces for their own amusement,

03:16the piñata decides to kill them all to avoid suffering the same fate. The film was made for

03:21£3,000 and 8 days and it absolutely shows. Even though it's intentionally dumb and everything

03:28plays out with tongue firmly in cheek, there isn't a single memorable line or creative kill. Most of the

03:34film revolves around extraneous characters just spouting generic dialogue solely, presumably,

03:39to fill up the runtime. 6. Ice Spiders

03:43Ice Spiders revolves around a group of Winter Olympic contenders staying at a ski resort, but

03:48uh oh, their plans are jeopardized when mutant spiders break out of a nearby experimental facility

03:54and go on a killing spree. Because of how preposterous this premise is, you might assume that all the

03:59characters in Ice Spiders would be equally over the top. However, the cast all deliver their lines so

04:05seriously that you wonder if they thought they were making a genuine horror flick rather than a spoof.

04:11And this makes every scene feel jarring since these actors speak so matter-of-factly while being

04:17attacked by the fakest looking spiders in movie history. I mean, the special effects for the

04:22spiders and eight-legged freaks weren't great, but they look photorealistic compared to the CGI here.

04:28These arachnids are so badly rendered that they looked like they were taken from a PlayStation 1 game.

04:345. Camp Death 3 in 2D Camp Death 3, which is not a sequel by the way, is a satire of the Friday the

04:4113th franchise just like so many of these movies are and it follows the same basic plot of people

04:48going to a camp and getting killed by a killer. Unlike some spoofs, Camp Death 3 is one of those

04:55films that doesn't even try to be clever and like all unoriginal parodies there's even a lightsaber

05:01battle thrown in there for good measure. This is one of those movies where the best joke in the

05:06whole thing is in the title. It seems almost designed to give you a chuckle while you're searching

05:10through Amazon Prime at 2am one Saturday night and hey, maybe that's a business model that's worked

05:16for it. 4. The Revenant 2009

05:20Because spoofs tend to mock specific films, they usually come across as derivative by nature. I mean,

05:25this is why parodies like Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans and Date Movie are so uncreative with their

05:31comedy. But there are some spoofs that avoid these tropes and come up with a genuinely original idea.

05:37The Revenant, not the Leonardo DiCaprio movie, is a 2009 comedy that revolves around a veteran called

05:43Bart who teams up with his buddy Joey to clean up the city. However, Bart has a slight problem. He's

05:49dead. After being reanimated as a corpse, he has to drink blood to stop himself from decomposing. Even

05:56though he's articulate and intelligent, Joey's friends are certain that Bart is a mindless brain-eating

06:02zombie and so they urge Joey to kill him. Even though the whole thing could have fallen apart

06:08if it was too silly, The Revenant has a good balance of being aware of how ridiculous it is while still

06:14taking itself somewhat seriously. 3. Comedy of Terrors

06:18Because Scary Movie is responsible for popularizing horror comedies, it's easy to forget the subgenre has

06:24existed for decades. And back in 1963, there was an underrated spoof called The Comedy of Terrors

06:30which revolved around a pair of funeral directors who were forced to kill customers to keep their

06:36failing business afloat. Even better, the film boasts an all-star cast including Vincent Price,

06:42Peter Lorre, Basil Rathbone and Boris Karloff. Although The Comedy of Terrors is beautifully staged and every

06:48scene is rich with tension, it's the actors stellar performances that stand out. The ensemble may be

06:54renowned for their dramatic roles, but they all get the chance to showcase their comedy chops here.

06:59Still, The Comedy of Terrors has become somewhat of a cult classic over the years, but it isn't really

07:04as well known as it should be. 2. Larmageddon

07:07Larmageddon is about a killer llama from space, and based on that premise alone, you should probably be

07:14able to tell whether this spoof will be your cup of bovril or not. Since the characters are stereotyped

07:20horny teenagers, they can be pretty grating a lot of time in this flick. But the more you hate these

07:26guys, the more satisfying it is when they're incinerated and reduced to a bloody puddle. Even

07:31though there's bound to be many viewers who enjoy the intentionally bad special effects and crass humor,

07:36it is a pity that nothing particularly creative is done with the llama in question. In every scene

07:42revolving around the animal, it doesn't really do anything except fire lasers from its eyes,

07:47which admittedly, now I'm thinking about it, is something we all did want to see, right?

07:52Considering the trailer calls Larmageddon the greatest movie in the world and brags that it

07:57was rejected for Sundance and won the most fake awards of 2018, you should have a good idea of what

08:04you're getting yourself into. 1. The Final Girls

08:08Probably the most well known on this list, but also certainly the best. The Final Girl centers on

08:13a young woman called Max processing the death of her mother Nancy, a legendary scream queen from the

08:181980s. So when she and her friends get sucked into Nancy's most famous slasher feature, Max's group

08:25find themselves being hunted by the in-movie killer. Now even though the best slashers are rife with cliches,

08:32every one of them works in this movie's advantage. Max's gang keep pointing out tropes like how blood

08:39looks like corn syrup or how the characters are always murdered after having sex. And yeah, it's not

08:44exactly the first movie to implement this shtick, but luckily The Final Girls never relies on these gags

08:51and instead focuses on the chemistry between the ensemble and hilarious one-liners. Because The Final

08:57Girls pokes fun at how cheesy the dialogue is and how every character acts like an idiot, you

09:02should probably enjoy it even if you're not usually a fan of the genre. So that's our list. It was

09:08certainly a mixed bag, some good, some, some truly dreadful, but I want to know what you guys think
