Oregon Ducks' Dan Lanning Discusses NIL, Transfer Portal Strategy
Transcript
00:00NAL and Oregon are always kind of making headlines. What do you think about this
00:04Ducks program really allows it to thrive in the current landscape? Well I think one
00:08this place has been a place that's like really open and honest right and
00:12provides opportunities. You know I'm really proud going into year four as the
00:15head coach here. We haven't lost a starter to the transfer portal. I think
00:18that speaks volumes about what's the experience for our players. One, they
00:21really enjoy being here. They feel like they're getting developed and they're
00:24taken care of right and in a landscape where you can take care of you know
00:27players like that that's what we want to be. I don't want to get anybody at a
00:30discount. I don't want to say oh you came here and worked for cheap. Like if they
00:33do a great job they deserve to reap the benefits of that. They're the ones
00:36filling the stands and we've been able to be competitive from that environment.
00:39We're probably not always the highest bidder. In fact I know we aren't but I
00:44know that we're able to be competitive and fair with our players and create
00:47great opportunities for them. Tez Johnson always said how transparent you were was
00:51a really big thing for him as a transfer portal player. Is that something you
00:55really try to send home with anybody who's thinking of coming to Eugene? I always
00:59feel like being honest and transparent is key to having success and sometimes it's
01:05not always the message somebody wants to hear but if they hear the truth and they
01:07know you're telling the truth then they can lean in on that.
