00:08The Golconda Blue, a breathtaking 23.24 carat diamond, was once treasured by the Maharajas

00:13of Indore and Baroda.

00:24It was mined from the legendary Golconda Mines of Telangana, the same source as the Kohinoor

00:29and Hope diamonds.

00:44Dating back to 1923, the gem landed in the hands of Maharaja Yashwantra Holkar II of Indore,

00:50one of the most stylish and forward-thinking Indian rulers of the 20th century.

00:55The diamond was originally set in a bracelet by French jeweler Shume in 1923.

01:00The Maharaja's father commissioned the piece after acquiring the equally famous Indore Pears.

01:05By the 1930s, it had been reworked into a jaw-dropping necklace by Mobusa, the Maharaja's go-to jeweler.

01:11So, this is as fine as it gets, as large as it gets, the best mine that you can get it from and the best provenance from India.

01:21Then came 1947, the gem made its way to America acquired by legendary jeweler Harry Winston,

01:27who turned it into a brooch paired with a matching white diamond.

01:30Eventually, it circled back to Indian royalty, the Baroda royal family, before slipping into private hands.

01:35On 14th May 2025, this blue beauty will be up for grabs at Christie's Magnificent Jewel auction in Geneva.

01:42The Golconda blue might be the biggest blue diamond hitting the auction block right now,

01:47but the largest known fancy blue diamond is the Hope diamond at 45.52 carats.

01:52It is the property of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.,

01:57donated to the museum by Harry Winston.

01:59For now, the Golconda blue is set to dazzle at the Four Seasons Hotel in Geneva during the auction.
