Within the Cabinet, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong pointed out that "quite a number" are aged 60 years and above. Speaking at the People's Action Party (PAP) Limbang branch, the party's secretary-general said that not making changes to MPs would mean another five-year-wait, which would not be in the interest of Singapore in the longer term.

00:00I think that will not be in the interest in the longer term for Singapore.
00:04I may be okay for five years, but I'm storing up more challenges for the country in the future.
00:12So I would rather have a good pace of renewal.
00:18There will be existing members of the team who will continue.
00:22Amongst them, Senior Minister Lee is still continuing.
00:31DPM Gun certainly will continue.
00:35And then of course there will be others, but like I said,
00:39all this will be revealed in good time, step by step, constituency by constituency.
00:45And beyond the senior members, the 4G team, we have a strong team,
00:55but we need more to come on board to strengthen the team.
00:59And we also need to refresh and update our backbenchers,
01:03our team of candidates who will hopefully, as many of them as possible, become MPs.
01:09And amongst them, some MPs who do well may be called to serve as an office holder in due course.
01:20So I think that leadership or that renewal and that rejuvenation of the PAP team is essential
01:27so that we as a party can offer Singapore and Singaporeans the best chance
01:35of taking our country forward, not just today, not just in the next one, two years,
01:41but over the medium to longer term.
