This is the Bentley Court Retirement Housing Scheme, situated in the Meanwood area of Leeds.
00:06
The development includes 35 one-bedroom apartments and five two-bedroom bungalows,
00:12
all of which are purpose-built properties for rent for people over the age of 55.
00:17
On Monday 14th April, Anker, who own and run the site,
00:22
confirmed traces of the bacteria Legionella were found following a water test in one resident's flat.
00:28
Legionella is a form of bacteria that can lead to Legionnaire's disease,
00:33
and Anker are working with the Health and Safety Executive after the resident was taken to hospital after becoming very ill.
00:40
A spokesperson for Anker said that after recently conducting water sampling at Bentley Court,
00:46
which indicated the presence of Legionella bacteria within an individual flat,
00:51
they took swift and comprehensive action to address this, and there is no cause for other residents to be concerned.
00:57
They're working closely with the Health and Safety Executive,
01:01
who are content with the actions they have taken, both now and in the past,
01:04
to understand how the bacteria developed, and to identify any improvements they may be able to make in the future.
01:11
According to the NHS site, Legionnaire's disease is a lung infection you can get from inhaling droplets of water
01:18
from things like air conditioning or hot tubs.
01:21
Although it's uncommon, it can be very serious,
01:24
and it's usually caught in places like hotels, hospitals or offices where the bacteria have got into the water supply.
01:31
Symptoms include a cough, shortness of breath, chest pain or discomfort,
01:36
particularly when breathing or coughing, a high temperature and flu-like symptoms.
01:41
Anker have said the health and safety of their residents remains paramount.
