Universal confirms plans to build HUGE theme park and resort in Bedford

The PM was in Bedford as Universal representatives revealed details about the new theme park and resort.

01:06and that is really incredible. And it's going to put Bedford on the map for millions of

01:13people, film lovers, people coming here for fun, people building their careers here. It

01:18will create thousands of jobs for the local community. And the statistic for that is really

01:25impressive. 80% of the jobs are going to be local jobs. So just looking behind me, these

01:31could be the jobs of yourselves and your colleagues for years and years to come. And we will make

01:37sure that those jobs go to the people who absolutely need them because that's part of our plan

01:43to get Britain working. It develops skills for students like those here at Kimberley College

01:50and at Bedford College. I think it's fantastic that already the work has started to look at

01:55what courses are going to be necessary, how we get the pipeline of different jobs, different

01:59designs. That'll be some of the jobs in construction, design, architecture, etc. But then the jobs

02:05are actually running this theme park. The new apprenticeships, internships, training opportunities.

02:11It's going to be really fantastic for local people. And I'm so pleased that we've got some

02:15of the young people here because this is some of the work that you will be engaged on because

02:20this is a five or six year project to build. That means we'll be starting on this very, very

02:25quickly. And I know curriculums are already being discussed, programmes to train local people

02:31and jobs in the future.
