The PAP’s slate for Sengkang GRC will be led by Dr Lam Pin Min, who was part of the PAP team that lost to the Workers’ Party in 2020's General Election. Dr. Lam shared his thoughts on the "narrative" (on the ground) that residents can vote for the opposition and still have a "plus one" in the form of the losing PAP candidates, who will "continue to serve" them.

00:00I think many of you have heard about the one for one narrative and in fact it is quite
00:10a strong narrative.
00:12Why not vote for the opposition party and the losing PAP candidate will continue to
00:18serve you as grassroots advisers and branch chairman.
00:22In fact recently there was a one plus one plus one narrative because as a grassroots
00:27adviser as branch chair you are working twice as hard.
00:33But if you think about it, you know, is this really the case?
00:38The opposition held wards, are the residents, are they better served than in the PAP held
00:45wards?
00:46Is your living environment better right now compared to when it was under PAP?
00:54In fact, it may be premature for me to review now but since the question was asked, one
01:00plus one may not necessarily be two.
01:04One plus one can be less than one.
01:07Why do I say that?
01:08Because in the opposition board where there are two different party representatives working
01:14together where there is actually conflict in policies, not working in coordination, there
01:20will be a drop in the efficiency and the outcome may be poorer.
01:26So I believe one plus one may not necessarily be two.
01:30In fact, one plus one can be less than one.
01:33I think we are under no delusion that winning back Sengkang GRC will be easy.
01:42We have never won back a GRC in the history of Singapore political history.
01:49It is not easy but no matter how difficult the journey may be or what the chances will be,
02:01I think one thing that we are very sure of is that we are very determined to try to win
02:06it back.
02:08That's why, you know, we have this refreshed slate, we have been working real hard on the
02:13ground, we are doing whatever we can so that eventually, hopefully residents can give us
02:20a chance and support us and bring us back to parliament.
02:25There are a lot of feedback for better connectivity.
02:28At other parts, they are quite happy, you know, with the level of connectivity to LRT.
02:34But that only means that one needs to spend a significant amount of time understanding
02:40what these unique nuances are in order to be ready to make a difference.
02:45My confidence is strong.
02:50Because I've spent the time to really understand the residents, to really get to know the residents,
02:56but not as a person who is out there to win elections, but as a friend, as a person who
03:02are, who is really concerned about making things better.
03:06The way that we've gone, I've approached it, was really to listen to residents and act and
03:16serve one family at a time.
03:18And if given a chance, I'd like to be that voice for them.
03:23Alright.
