Es la capacidad de contar la historia de esto en su propia manera, la manera que Gail can go en TV y talk about it,
00:07
Amanda can go and continue to advocate for women broadly about it,
00:13
la manera que Katie can sing about it, etc., la manera que Carrie Ann can produce films about it.
00:17
That is what is so special about this crew en particular.
00:21
And that is what's so special about this new era of spaceflight.
00:25
This is not NASA. This is not governments. It's not the U.S., China or Russia.
00:31
This is the commercial era. These are private companies.
00:34
And this is Blue Origin sending the first all-female crew into space since 1963.
00:40
And this is all going to happen so fast in just a few minutes, about 10 or 11 minutes from launch to landing.
00:47
And don't worry, guys, I did the math.
00:49
In case you're wondering, total duration of this mission is just about three Katy Perry firework songs.
00:57
So play that song three times. That's how long this mission is going to be.
01:01
Fantastic. Well, so at T-minus three minutes to go until our 31st launch of New Shepard, our 11th human spaceflight.
01:09
Just to tell you what's coming up here, at T-minus two minutes, we send the show over to the vehicle.
01:16
It goes into autonomous mode.
01:18
Command engine controller ready to start.
01:20
We have our team, of course, in mission control that have their eyes glued to the screen there.
01:27
There you go, mission control, quiet and intense.
01:30
There's one of our crew members, Seven's capsule communicator, Laura Stiles.
01:34
She is communicating in the ear of our capsule, in the ears of our astronauts.
01:40
But what we're going to see in the last two minutes, you'll see the fins at the base of the rocket gimbal or just move back and forth.
01:47
We want to make sure they've got free range.
01:49
At the base there, you see the nozzle, the engine peeking out.
01:52
The engine as well is going to gimbal, going to move both in conjunction together.
01:58
Those two systems guide the rocket.
02:03
And when you are out there at this moment, this rocket feels like it is alive.
02:08
It feels like it is a living, breathing, missing thing, right?
02:14
And there's the gantry pulling back from the rocket.
02:16
T-minus two minutes and counting.
02:22
Transition to onboard hydraulic pump.
02:27
And this right here is the moment that they've been training for.
02:33
Two days, becoming a crew, becoming a team.
02:39
After you go through an experience like this, it's more than a team.
02:44
It's almost like a family.
02:45
You are so tight to go through something as intense as this.
02:48
Executing aft fin, built-in test.
02:50
And everything looking really good, Arianne.
02:55
So far from this control, everything is clean and green for this launch.
03:00
T-minus one minute to go here.
03:02
Engine thrust, vector control, built-in test in work.
03:15
Vehicle is now on internal power.
03:17
So in a moment here, we'll see those, what they call the bit checks, the built-in test checks.
03:25
As you mentioned, Kristen, inside the capsule, you know, as you said, this is like a bridled beast.
03:32
This thing wants to take off.
03:34
Switch to onboard helium.
03:36
Here we go.
03:37
Good luck and godspeed, ladies.
03:41
We're cheering you on from Canada.
03:42
Let's launch this rocket.
03:43
Termination system is armed.
03:46
T-minus 22 seconds and counting.
03:54
T-minus 10.
03:59
7, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, command engine start, 2, 1, ignition.
04:18
Liftoff.
04:21
New Shepard has cleared the tower.
04:29
6,000 feet climbing.
04:54
Again, throttle down for Q limiting.
04:56
Engine response looks good.
05:14
Max Q, maximum dynamic pressure.
05:19
Mach 1, vehicle is supersonic.
05:21
Engine back up to full throttle.
05:26
Supersonic, we have passed through max Q, maximum dynamic pressure.
05:31
That's when the vehicle, the stresses between the atmosphere and the speed are at the maximum.
05:36
So to punch through that is so important.
05:39
You see the BA-3 engines.
05:41
It's firing beautifully.
05:43
You see the stream of steam behind it.
05:46
Those ladies right now are having an incredible view on their way to space.
05:54
Passing through 80,000 feet, 1,300 miles per hour.
05:59
You're going to peak at about 2,300 miles an hour over Mach 3, three times the speed of sound.
06:06
Shortly coming up, we'll have MECO main engine cut off.
06:14
We will turn off the engine, but the two craft, the capsule and the booster, will continue their ascent to space.
06:23
Stand by, MECO.
06:23
Stand by, MECO.
06:24
Stand by, MECO.
06:25
Stand by, MECO.
06:26
Stand by, MECO.
06:34
Stand by, MECO.
06:35
Stand by, MECO.
06:35
Stand by, MECO.
06:36
Stand by, MECO.
06:36
Stand by, MECO.
06:37
Stand by, MECO.
06:37
Stand by, MECO.
06:37
The main engine is turned off.
06:39
We're now going to separate the capsule from the booster.
06:41
And at that point, Kristen, that's when all six astronauts are going to start to feel the weightlessness.
06:47
And shortly thereafter, we're going to let them unbuckle.
06:50
And that right there is the most critical milestone of this whole ascent.
07:00
Oprah watching her best friend go to space.
07:02
And booster takes a lot of time.
07:12
And booster takes a lot of time.
07:30
Y booster, touchdown, welcome home, New Shepard.
07:40
Picture perfect landing right there.
07:41
Picture perfect landing.
07:43
Right on target.
07:44
You see that dust kind of creates this dramatic cloud
07:48
that reveals the beautiful rocket that has just taken these ladies up to space and back.
07:53
And I love the echo across the mountains.
07:56
Is that what I was hearing there?
07:57
That's what you were hearing.
07:58
You hear the sonic boom.
08:00
Then you hear the engine relight.
08:02
And all of that reverberates in this big, beautiful valley in West Texas.
08:14
All right, shortly here we're waiting to see the drogue parachutes deploy from the crew capsule.
08:19
Those are like the guide parachutes.
08:21
There we go, the drogue parachutes.
08:23
Just free-falling right there until those drogues came out.
08:26
And then next will be the main parachutes that get pulled out.
08:35
You hear that screaming inside the capsule?
08:38
And all three parachutes reefing, and they will slowly inflate.
08:46
Slowing the capsule to a nice, smooth 10, 15 miles an hour.
08:51
They are cruising back home.
08:54
Three good parachutes.
08:57
And I tell you, Kristen, from having gone through all of the simulations,
09:06
I have gone through all of the training.
09:09
They put you in the capsule that simulates all of this, including the sounds.
09:12
And when you hear the mortars of the parachutes pop out, that is the best moment in flight.
09:18
Because I know Blue Origin does everything they can to make this as safe as possible.
09:24
As safe as possible.
09:25
And you'll have an impeccable safety record.
09:27
But it still has to feel really good when you know that you're coming back to Earth
09:31
with those parachutes fully deployed.
09:34
And we can see the capsule just over our shoulder here going to be landing north and east of the launch pad,
09:51
coming down softly and beautifully.
09:55
500 feet.
09:56
And you will see a puff of smoke when it touches down.
10:07
A puff of dust.
10:08
That's normal.
10:09
A puff of dust, last milliseconds.
10:12
Air cushion that will kick up the dust.
10:15
It's a very soft, soft landing despite the sporty perception.
10:19
There it is.
10:20
There it is.
10:27
Nice.
10:31
Touchdown.
10:32
Congratulations.
10:34
And welcome back to Earth.
10:39
Status check.
10:41
Double shot.
10:45
Kristen, just some incredible images there.
10:49
The capsule.
10:50
Welcome back.
10:51
Well, nice.
10:53
Let's wait for just a moment here.
10:55
Make sure they're doing health checks in.
11:00
Beautiful.
11:10
Yes, and as you heard it there, everybody seemed to be just as ecstatic to be back here, back on Earth.
11:18
Everybody appears to be fine.
11:21
Beautiful shot there of the capsule down in the desert.
11:24
As we were just saying, it looks like a tough landing, but it is an air cushion in the last milliseconds that just makes it even softer.
11:34
I will also note the parachutes landed very close to the capsule.
11:39
That's just an indication that there's not very much wind out here today.
11:43
A beautiful day for a launch and landing.
11:46
A beautiful day to add six more names to the roster of astronauts that have been over the Karman line into space.
11:54
I will have to go there, okay.
12:08
Katie!
12:08
Thank you!
12:09
Woo!
12:10
Woo!
12:10
Mwah!
12:11
Jusky!
12:12
Gracias.
