Leeds’ win over Preston has them on the cusp of promotion

00:00things are certainly more rosy at ellen road at present leeds united back top of the championship

00:09after let's be honest a damaging couple of weeks with a few draws in there where they slipped away

00:15from the top spots burnley and chief of the united capitalizing but then since then leeds have got

00:21back to winning ways middlesbrough a good win and then preston at ellen road on saturday afternoon

00:27and they are now back top with burnley joining them level on 88 points and crucially treffield united

00:33just a little bit further back on 83 points five points is the difference between second well

00:38first and second and third so for leeds it's looking pretty good with only four games left

00:44lee that win against preston coupled with treffield united's away loss at lowly plymouth was

00:51well it made for a very very good saturday afternoon didn't it it certainly did jay you're

00:58not going to get me saying they're up yet or that they've even got one foot in the premier league but

01:01um it is you have to say it's looking pretty good now and um you know it is amazing really what

01:06difference the week can make obviously on the back of those draws um going to middlesbrough and getting

01:10a win there which is an absolutely huge result you know to return to winning ways um a very good side

01:15in borough you know that was a good good result to get that there um and then obviously the victory

01:19against preston coupled up with the with the chef united defeat i mean that was some atmosphere at

01:24ellen road at the weekend it that that felt like a cup final really that that atmosphere um you know

01:29obviously chef united were 1-0 up and it was kind of weird i think because they were 1-0 up and i think

01:33we all just expected that's the way it would finish as you would do with a team like that away at

01:37bottom of the league um plymouth um but then you could tell sort of like noticeable sort of like just

01:42it was a bit weird you could just tell something was going on in the crowd then sort of like the noise

01:46levels started to change and that was basically because the news was filtering through of it being

01:501-1 and and even that would have been a massive boost for leeds and dropping two points let alone

01:54um for them to go and lose 2-1 and suffer a third defeat in a row but obviously on top of that leeds

01:59had to take care of their own business which they did with the 2-1 victory against preston um it should

02:04have been a lot more than 2-1 um as it's often their way they missed an awful lot of chances but did

02:09play well and played some pretty good football just should have been a lot more comfortable than it was and

02:13um you know another day though all that matters is the three points the results is is the only

02:18thing that matters and and yeah you know you look at the table now and you have to say it's looking

02:22very very good it'd be looking good anyway no matter what the fixtures were but it's the double whammy

02:26of the fact that obviously you've got that five point gap but on top of that you've got sheffield

02:30united having to go away to burnley um at a time obviously when there are question marks about them

02:35having lost three in a row that's not to say that anybody's writing them off whatsoever i think

02:39everybody including myself has got an enormous route of spread for chris wilder and and sheffield united as a team

02:43and i wouldn't um at all write them off in terms of potentially bouncing back with something strong

02:49i mean obviously you know they might well need four wins they might well get that but the fact that you

02:53know it is a tall order for them now obviously it has to be said and that's factored into the odds

02:58we've always kept an eye on the odds over you know recent over well weeks and months of the season

03:02leads now one to 16 to go up which is very very short and i can see why to be honest now i think a lot

03:08of the time this season i kind of thought the odds were way too short on leads but i can agree with that

03:12now and i can i can see why that why that should be the case they're not there yet they're far from

03:16there and obviously with the timing of the fixtures coming up you know a slip up you know could sort of

03:20like have consequences on the next game and whatnot um but they seem to be you know returning to

03:25something like the best to get in the victories now obviously back-to-back wins um man of solomon in

03:30very very good shape the injuries are a little bit concerning obviously you don't want too many more

03:33of those at the moment um but yeah i mean it is looking pretty good and the facts of the matter

03:38the facts are that eight points but because of the goal difference realistically seven um would send

03:44them up um you know and you would and on paper you would fancy leads to get seven points from the last

03:48four games um and you know that's on the assumption that chef united and burnley take maximum points

03:55obviously they can't take maximum points against each other so you know it's looking very very good

03:59i think a lot of fans were you know even us as journalists were worried you know that here we go

04:03again we're going to be looking at the playoffs and they still might be heading for the playoffs but

04:06you know it would have to be a real real sort of like um you know terrible set of results now

04:12for them to fall away but you know it isn't done yet and you know got to go to oxford and get the

04:16result there but um yeah that was a massive massive day and if we're writing stories about where

04:21promotion was sealed this season that'll definitely come into it that sad it was a huge huge day and

04:24it felt like that ellen road and um you know a lot a lot of people said even it felt like the

04:29players knew you know you could tell from the celebrations and obviously pete lowry putting on a

04:33free bar for the fans and stuff you don't do that just for a normal win so um yeah a huge huge day

04:37and hopefully it's uh it's it's maybe half a foot in the premier league something like that
