00:00and it's a long way down towards turn one as it's lights out and away we go and Piastri gets a great

00:07start but so does George Russell and look at him coming at Charles Leclerc now the soft tyres

00:11working well for the Mercedes into the first corner Russell locks up and nearly hits Oscar

00:17Piastri and that could have been calamitous for both Piastri leads from Russell Lando Norris what

00:22a start he's going wheel to wheel now with Charles Leclerc and Norris looks like he's gone up into

00:27the top three then comes Kimi Antonelli just about holding on Pierre Gasly as round the outside

00:33goes Lando Norris and into the top three Carlos Sainz gave him just enough room made it tough for

00:38him and didn't give it up but Carlos Sainz now has Max Verstappen for company pushes Verstappen

00:43forces him to the wide extremity Verstappen looked like he went off the road he did dipped a tyre

00:48into the gravel did he go all four wheels off the track there as he muscled his way past Carlos Sainz

00:54and up into seventh they've widened that white line did he stay on the line Martin

00:59he doesn't leave me a car's width this leaving a car's width on the outside of the corner very

01:06much depends where you were at the apex whether you're whether you've earned the right to some

01:11space on the outside they've changed the rules for this year and we'll see how the stewards interpret

01:16that now look at how Lando Norris threaded his way past the Mercedes and the Alpine George Russell

01:21locks up and as they arrive at the apex of turn one Charles Leclerc has got him for company

01:25yeah and they go side by side all the way up to turn four and Lando just hangs it out around the

01:33outside to secure that third position there you can see at the top of your screen and that puts

01:39him in in a lovely place compared to where he was after qualifying now here is Lando Norris on the

01:44right-hand side of the screen Max Verstappen like he did in Qatar last year spotting something and

01:52he's right he was absolutely over that white line did he have a bit of tyre on it he's certainly a long

01:58way forward in his grid box and and he didn't intend to be out there the car crept forward when he

02:03grabbed first gear so Lando we've been given a five second penalty for out of position on the grid

02:07if we can get past Russell we need to try we will recover these positions

02:12we'll ask you Martin what he can do as we watch Lewis Hamilton making a move on Carlos Sainz here

02:19switch to the inside Sainz wants to force Hamilton wide around the outside at turn four so he can make

02:25a move to get back down the hill and that's exactly what he has just done the man who used to be sat

02:30in the seat we're riding on board with now let's just have a little look at what happened here to

02:35Max Verstappen there was a red light on so he was held at the pit box

02:43just watch the lights tyres come off it's still red let's just have a little look at Yuki Tsunoda's

02:53pit stop and we saw potential malfunction for Max Verstappen did they bring a spare light down

03:00remember what's rushing them oh my god yeah so the their exit lights are not working both

03:08drivers fairly underwhelmed by that Lewis Hamilton down that main straights with fresher rubber than

03:14Jack Doohan who has completed 12 laps on those medium tyres Hamilton down the inside on Jack Doohan

03:22and makes that overtake he made his pit stop a lot later and has only been on those tyres for four

03:27laps now yeah I can't even brake anymore it's just some ticklers yeah that's it Max but you can see

03:33very clearly on the Ferrari Norris now will start to struggle there goes Charles Leclerc late braking

03:39down at the turn one as he outbraked himself a little bit Lando saw it coming so thanks ever so

03:44much I'll just pick the place back up as I get the throttle down out of turn two it's having a huge

03:49effect on Lando Norris's race he he could be on at this rate for a three-stopper yeah into the pits

03:54comes Max Verstappen come off yeah finally gets rid of those hard tyres but they didn't

03:59want to come off very easily and he's lost even more time 4.7 seconds in the pit stop

04:05and now 6.2 seconds in the pit I think two is the way forward for pretty much the whole grid

04:09and that's where we are as well thanks ever so much James back with you in a little while the

04:14black and white flag already shown as we said to Hadja and to Antonelli and that is Yuki Sonoda

04:20and with Carlos Sainz now James Vales sounded a lot more calm as those two were making that move

04:29and you just yeah yeah he's got him now it didn't mention the debris and the bits flying off the cars

04:35we've got a safety car this might change things around a bit it suits a lot of people then who were

04:40desperate to get some tyres on he's gone early and Lando Norris has gone with Charles Leclerc and is

04:47right towards the gearbox of Charles Leclerc and now getting that slipstream it's a very good restart

04:53for Oscar Piastri it could be a good start for Lando Norris here as well Russell in second Charles

04:58Leclerc with Lewis Hamilton going around the outside of his teammate and getting past Lando Norris

05:04there comes Oscar Piastri then George Russell and then we have Charles Leclerc with Lewis Hamilton

05:09ahead of Norris who just got a bit boxed in I think behind the Ferrari after initially making a

05:15really really good getaway when we had the restart going off the track then going off the track that

05:20looked like Kimi Antonelli and Alex Albon as we see the replay here of Lando Norris and Hamilton

05:27down into turn one Hamilton just found a nice gap opening there to slot in behind his teammate

05:35Lewis gave him all the space he possibly could on the inside to trip over each other and then just

05:39got on the throttle and if Lando's gone off the track here he wants to get that place back

05:45right now difficult to see from that angle because you're looking at the blue line then comes Charles

05:51Leclerc and I mentioned Antonelli and it was Carlos Sainz not Alex Albon down the inside goes Carlos

05:59Sainz and the Mercedes had to make way because locking up his brakes Sainz was coming through come what may

06:07down there up and now in sixth place he stayed out during a safety car period and didn't pit and got

06:14track position here's Lando Norris at the top of the hill turn four this time getting past on the track

06:20and on the white line Lewis Hamilton and up into third so George we have an issue affecting DRS it's

06:26a timing issue only I can give you a default to override it yeah once we do it you have to wait

06:34till I tell you you can use DRS the Ferrari of Leclerc is using his battery well in defense and here we go

06:43so Lando's got it oh Lando that's the last thing he needed to do that's going to lose him a lot of time

06:49the move was for a fraction of a second the move was on and then it definitely wasn't because there

06:54wasn't enough straight left so this time can he get better traction than Leclerc and pick up the slip

06:59stream and use his DRS on the shorter run towards turn four and make a move here and look at the speed

07:06difference between the Ferrari ahead of the McLaren Norris trying to go around the outside and

07:12eventually goes off the track because there wasn't room and Leclerc didn't have to give him room because

07:17he wasn't alongside he's got a better chance now he's got a much better chance he's gonna have to

07:21go to the inside surely so Leclerc goes to the inside to try and cover him off and they almost touch

07:27at the top of the hill and around the outside goes Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc just hasn't got

07:32the grip to try and live with a McLaren and he went the long way round and it's taken a long time

07:38to do it but finally Lando Norris is up in the third so this is the big chance for Lando Norris

07:44into turn one chasing behind George Russell as they start their final lap could it be a McLaren

07:51one two Russell goes to the inside Norris tries to force his way around the outside and they go wheel

07:56to wheel and they almost touch and Norris has tobacco Piastri and the lights on Saturday night

08:02was the first repeat pole sitter in 2025 he's the first repeat winner as well the checkered flag

08:09is his Oscar Piastri wins the Bahrain Grand Prix and gives McLaren their first ever victory here in

08:17the kingdom of Bahrain George Russell started one place behind the front row after a penalty finishes

08:24one place above the front row it's second place for him and a super drive at the end and Lando Norris

08:31made up places in the Grand Prix but he couldn't quite make it that one two for McLaren

08:36the first time we've won our second home Grand Prix uh you've been pretty flawless all weekend so great job
