A watersports centre has introduced a new 'Pup Sup' session - where dog owners can try paddleboarding with their furry friend.

The fun and relaxing sport is suitable for most dogs, but lifejackets are recommended to help keep them safe in the water.

00:00Obviously we've been open for three years now and we had people asking constantly, you know,
00:04do you have dogs on the boards, do you have dogs? Because of the confined space we just haven't
00:07basically and we were looking at our calendar for this year and just thinking well can we do
00:11something different, can we let people bring their dogs onto the lake, have a bit of fun
00:14so we had our pops up hour every Friday morning at 10 to 11 and yeah just gives people the
00:20opportunity to come down, hire the boards, pop their dogs on and just get out there and have
00:25some fun with the, you know, pop on a sup basically. I think there's probably more benefits for the
00:29humans because it's just, it's a brilliant, it's just brilliant fun, you know, your dog,
00:34your best mate out on the board with you, having a great time. Some dogs like to jump off,
00:38swim around, they just love being out in that open space and open air but we've found even our dogs
00:43that aren't massive swimmers just sort of seem to enjoy sort of gliding along above the water and
00:47they're quite sort of inquisitive about what's going on around them and I just think there's
00:51got to be something in that for them definitely. I was a manager last year but we've got Jack this
00:58year so due to health issues I'm going to be moving into the shop instead. Paddleboard is a lot
01:06with my husband and the children on holiday, we had one for a long time and then met Reece and he
01:14offered me a job here. And what do you like about paddleboarding? It's just, there's no, there's no
01:20noise, it's completely silent, it's not like a boat and you can lie on it, you can stand on it, you can
01:28sit on it, it's just really relaxing.
01:31She starts off quite nervous and then you can feel her calm down, you can feel her body get
01:39more and more relaxed. Yeah, she likes to cuddle on the board and I think she feels safe because
01:45she's with me as well. So it's like you're in charge Mum. Is she the kind of dog that enjoys the water?
01:53She'll go into the water, she'll go for a swim but she's not a natural water, she's not like a spaniel,
01:59a natural water dog that heads straight for it. When we're on the board she wouldn't jump in
02:06off the board, she likes to stay next to me. I think it depends dog to dog, I mean it's, I think your dog
02:12wants to enjoy the water, definitely that's going to help them have an enjoyable time out. We recommend
02:16a life jacket for all dogs just because a lot of people don't know how their dogs can swim in deep
02:20water, so we've put life jackets on our dogs as well. But yeah, any dogs welcome along, you know,
02:25as long as they're going to be out in the water looking like they're having a good time then that's
02:29all we want really. I'll be here all the time, yeah. I mean the shop's only just on Sheep Street up
02:35there, so yeah, after work I'll be straight down with the dog. So we open on April 5th,
02:42we do our first pups up on the 12th of April and then we run basically through until the weather
02:46closes us. So last year that was the end of September, the year before it was the end of
02:50October but all summer long, you know, as long as the sun's shining we're here, we're open.
