There were fears that attendance might be down at this year’s Easter Show as cost-of-living pressures bite. But that was not the case when the gates opened this morning.
00:00More than 50,000 people turned out for day one of the show.
00:06It's a tradition now, we do this every year, we bring them on their first day,
00:10actually take a day off school.
00:12Excited, get to get lots of show bags.
00:15Kind of excited, but I'm just a little bit nervous.
00:20All the scary rides.
00:22It takes weeks to transform the city show ground into a taste of the bush.
00:27And give you an idea of where the clothes come from on your back,
00:31where that meal is coming from, where the hot chips have come from.
00:34There's plenty of kidding around, but also some serious judging.
00:40These competitors are among the smallest of the animals eyeing off a win.
00:45Away from the ribbons, the hip pocket was front of mind.
00:49A bit costly to be honest, just because we're kind of young and like we don't earn that much.
00:54So it's free rides between 10 to 2 which works out well.
00:58For $40 you can't go wrong.
01:00This year more than 80 show bags come in under $10
01:03and organisers say they put pressure on the vendors to keep prices down.
01:08You can spend $5 if you want to and support regional NSW country shows.
01:12Get a sausage sizzle and add a water.
01:15Or you can go into the dome and buy lobster and champagne.
01:18We've got it all covered.
01:19Well it's the city's chance to get up close and personal with animals that have come in from farmers right across the state to make the show what it is.
