00:00Around the middle of the last century, humans began to explore space.

00:05On April 12, 1961, the Soviet Union successfully sent the first-ever human into space.

00:12The cosmonaut, named Yuri Gagarin, made the trip, which lasted just 108 minutes.

00:18The space race was in full flow, and less than a month later,

00:22the U.S. responded by sending Alan Shepard Jr. on a 15-minute trip into space.

00:26On October 15, 2003, China became the third country to send a human into space.

00:34Yang Liwei spent 21 hours up there on the Shenzhou 5 spacecraft.

00:39China has continued its space program and has its own independent space station up in orbit.

00:45The U.S. has plans to send humans back to the moon with the Artemis project,

00:49while private companies such as SpaceX are exploring sending people to Mars.

00:54Meanwhile, Russia is drawing up plans to build its own space station,

00:59and the country also cooperates with both China and the U.S. in the exploration of space.
