Record Store Day came along and gave the whole industry a shot in the arm.
00:04
It helped create the vinyl revival.
00:06
It really just went hand-in-hand with what we were doing
00:08
and basically got so much exposure via Record Store Day
00:11
and the press that came along with it that we've been able to survive.
00:14
And that's the main thing about Record Store Day,
00:15
is to bring people back into physical record shops
00:17
rather than just sit on your butt at home and click on a button
00:20
and get it sent to your home.
00:21
It's very convenient, but at the same time,
00:23
you're missing out and a big sense of community.
00:24
Love Music has been here since 1996.
00:27
I've been behind this counter for a long time now,
00:29
about 25 years and counting.
00:31
So we've always been a kind of blend between new releases and second-hand stuff.
00:35
You get all the new stuff, plus you get the excitement of seeing what comes in.
00:38
And in the second-hand world, you just never know.
00:40
I really enjoy that part of it.
00:41
It's a bit of a cliche, but there are musical hubs around,
00:44
and there have been for decades, where people meet.
00:46
And you can see, you know, musicians wanted posters on the poles in here.
00:49
You can see a lot of independent artists
00:51
and a lot of things that don't have distribution.
00:54
You know, there's a lot of record shops in Glasgow.
00:55
People have a really good amount of choice.
00:57
So we have to kind of keep concentrating and keep, you know,
00:59
keep adapting to survive.
01:01
And just basically, we have to kind of run faster just to stand still.
01:04
Mr. Connolly, Sir Connolly, drank from when he was here a couple years ago.
01:08
He was talking about the first record he ever bought.
01:10
And his first record was a Hank Williams single
01:13
that he bought at the Barris Market when he was just a youngster.
01:16
So we had a record player set up here on the counter,
01:18
and basically Billy played Hank Williams records
01:20
and sang along and then yodeled along as well.
01:23
So it was an interesting afternoon.
01:25
He was very friendly and we had a good time.
01:26
And he drank some Iron Brew and we just kept it
01:28
so in case we could clone him in the future.
01:31
I have a particular favourite album,
01:34
and it's Blue Nile Hats,
01:36
which has several tracks on it,
01:39
which I think are very melodic
01:42
and akin to the Blue Nile style.
01:44
So,
01:45
Let's continue.
01:50
Let's continue.
01:52
Let's continue.
02:06
Let's continue.
