00:00In Toronto, a June ritual unfolds.

00:07Welcome to the Red Hot Pride Prom!

00:14The queer high school prom.

00:16Off limits for everyone else.

00:20For three lives that briefly intertwine here,

00:23this is their story.

00:26Idina, two words why you want to be king.

00:29One word, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

00:35As the rabbi's daughter,

00:36they expected me to be the same as everyone else.

00:39Not just to be one of the kids,

00:41but to be the model child at the school

00:43and to conform to exactly what the school wanted.

00:46And I did the exact opposite.

00:50I never thought about it.

00:51It was never something that I sat at home and thought,

00:53oh, you're gay.

00:55It didn't happen until probably when I was 15, 16, you know?

01:01But what hurt is that people had already made my choice

01:04before I could even come out.

01:06to be the same as myself.

01:12My mom doesn't like gay people at all.

01:14I know she's my mom and I love her and stuff like that,

01:16but she's another person who I just look at

01:18that makes so much of my remarks and just think,

01:21okay, you know what, I'm at a higher level than that.
