Long day of severe weather ahead for central US

Storm chaser Aaron Jayjack reports from Joplin, Missouri, where the area is facing a long day of severe storms as of April 2. These storms are capable of producing heavy rain, flooding and tornadoes.

00:00Good morning from Joplin, Missouri, where a line of severe storms is currently tracking through the city.

00:06A long line of storms that stretches well to the north, up towards Kansas City, and further to the south.

00:11And we are just getting started as a long day of severe weather is about to unfold here in the mid-south, into the mid-west.

00:18A large area under the gun today for severe weather, which includes all hazards, strong winds, large hail,

00:25and potentially violent tornadoes will occur today with any supercell that might fire out ahead of this line

00:32that's currently coming through Joplin and it moves off to the east today.

00:36I'll be targeting supercells in the Missouri Boothills, southwestern Illinois, down through Memphis.

00:43The Mississippi River Valley is a focal point for the most significant severe weather later today

00:48towards the late evening, early evening, late evening hours at sunset.

00:53We could really see things ramp up significantly at that point, but I'll be tracking the storms here on the AccuWeather network

00:59through the day across southern Missouri, northern Arkansas, as I make my way east.
