00:00This is what the voices we brought into this chamber,

00:05the voices of our constituents, red states, blue states,

00:07the voices of Democrats and Republicans,

00:09Republican governors, Democratic governors,

00:12we brought all the people that are saying no,

00:14this is a moral moment, not left or right, right or wrong.

00:18And so I tried over the last 25 hours and one minute

00:25to center the conversation back

00:26on what will we do of good conscience.

00:30People who are saying I serve this country,

00:33I risked my life, shouldn't be able to keep my job.

00:35People are saying this country once made itself

00:38the envy of the world because we invested

00:39in high quality education for every child.

00:41I don't like what's going on

00:43at the end of the Department of Education.

00:45People are saying I worked harder than I ever have,

00:48but the prices on everything in my life are getting higher.

00:51People who are saying that the America I learned about

00:53in school, the one where people's rights are protected,

00:55the people are saying that why are we yet again

00:57going through another healthcare battle

00:59that threatens millions of people,

01:00the people are saying that I'm worried

01:01about the financial security and the future of my country,

01:04the voices of folks.

01:06And so I end by saying simply this,

01:09where I started was John Lewis.

01:12I don't know how to solve this.

01:14I don't know how to stop us from going down this road.

01:16Chuck Schumer has now told me that they're greasing

01:19the skids to do these things.

01:20I'm sorry, but I know who does have the power,

01:26the people of the United States of America.

01:30The power of the people is greater than the people in power.

01:33It is time to heed the words of the man

01:35I began this whole thing with, John Lewis.

01:38I beg folks to take his example of his early days

01:42where he made himself determined to show his love

01:45for his country at a time the country didn't love him,

01:49to love this country so much, to be such a patriot

01:51that he endured beatings savagely

01:53on the Edmund Pettus Bridge,

01:55at lunch counters, on freedom rides.

01:57He said he had to do something.

02:01He would not normalize a moment like this.

02:04He would not just go along with business as usual.

02:08He wouldn't know how to solve it.

02:10But there's one thing that he would do

02:12that I hope we all can do

02:13that I think I did a little bit of tonight.

02:15He said for us to go out and cause some good trouble,

02:25necessary trouble, to redeem the soul of our nation.

02:31I want you to redeem the dream.

02:33Let's be bold in America, not to mean and degrade Americans,

02:39not divide us against each other.

02:41Let's be bolder in America with a vision

02:43that inspires, with hope,

02:46that starts with the people of the United States of America.

02:50That's how this country started, we the people.

02:53Let's get back to the ideals that others are threatening.

02:55Let's get back to our founding documents,

02:57that those imperfect geniuses had some very special words

03:00at the end of the Declaration of Independence.

03:02It was one of the greatest in all of humanity,

03:04declarations of interdependence.

03:07When our founder said we must mutually pledge,

03:10pledge to each other our lives,

03:13our fortunes, and our sacred honor,

03:16we need that now from all Americans.

03:20This is a moral moment.

03:21It's not left or right, it's right or wrong.

03:29It's getting good trouble.

03:31My friend, Madam President, I yield the floor.

04:14staff, thank you to the clerks, thank you to the doorkeepers, there are so many people

04:18that make this place special, I kept you up all night, kept you up 24 hours, I just want
