Coalition to match Labor's $150 million pledge to Flinders University healthcare hub

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced a $150 million contribution to a new $300 million Flinders University healthcare centre. The Coalition has announced that it will match the $150 million for the centre, describing it as a "great project."

00:09to help build a $300 million health service at the Flinders Medical Precinct on his whistle-stop

00:14visit to Adelaide's Marginal Electorate of Boothby.

00:18When this is up and running, there will be able to be 100 patients supported by this

00:24service and facility every day at any time.

00:29The clinic will be staffed by Flinders University students and help train 1,300 graduates each

00:34year in fields like nursing, social work, occupational therapy and paramedicine.

00:40The university will pay for half the 10-storey centre, with the federal government stumping

00:44up the rest no matter who wins the election, after the opposition matched the pledge.

00:49We will absolutely commit to supporting the $150 million of the $300 million to build

00:55this health hub precinct.

00:56Construction isn't due to start until 2027, and more qualified health professionals will

01:02be needed to work alongside the students.

01:04But the Premier says recruitment won't be an issue.

01:07We have seen the ability of the state government to employ substantially over and above attrition

01:13in all of those fields and we've delivered it.

01:15The Nurses Union has welcomed the promise, but wants a greater focus on staff retention.

01:20It's one thing to recruit more nurses and midwives into the system, but we also need

01:24to make sure we look after those people we already have.

01:27A plan to bolster health services while training the next generation.
