Kirk's personal assistant on the starship Enterprise in the science fiction franchise Star Trek. In 1966, Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry cast Whitney as Janice Rand, Captain James T. Kirk's personal assistant, in the classic series. Whitney returned to Star Trek in the 1970s after DeForest Kelley saw her on the unemployment list and told her that fans of the series were constantly asking about her at conventions. Whitney died of natural causes at her home in Coarsegold on May 1, 2015, at the age of 85.
