GP surgeries have been rated according to what patients say, but do Bristolians agree?

73.9% of patients rated the overall experience of the service as “good” or “very good”, an increase from 71.3% in 2023.

00:09based on the latest data available from the GP patient survey, which was released last

00:15June.

00:16Yeah, I would say in principle I'm pretty happy with my GP surgery. It's pretty hard

00:23to get an appointment. And when I, yeah, when I do see someone, I feel like sometimes they

00:31don't have enough time, and then sometimes they do. And sometimes some GPs go like really

00:36out of their way to make time and be really compassionate and understanding. So yeah.

00:42Really long time I didn't go, but I'm coming direct from the local GP for the long time

00:50ago. Yeah, it was good treatment. Yeah, not too bad. I had a blood test just only. I went

00:57for that. I'm still for the result for the next three days. That's it. But years ago

01:03I've been to the urgency.

01:05No, you've got to ring up by eight and probably hang on for a while. And you might be lucky

01:14to get one, you know, in a few weeks time. But if you want one now, I'm not sure. But

01:17the children, I think, are very good at being able to get them because our grandchildren

01:21get appointments, don't they, on the day. But that's a different surgery.

01:27The survey, which reveals what patients think of their local GP practice, saw almost 700,000

01:34people complete the questionnaire between January 2nd and March 25th. 73.9% of patients

01:41rated the overall experience of their service as good or very good, an increase from 71.3%

01:47in 2023. Overall patient experiences of their GP practice varied among different patient

01:53groups. For example, patients from African and Caribbean ethnic groups reported a more

01:59positive experience.

02:00I've had quite a lot of experience with them in different ways. So from small things to

02:06some really like life altering massive things. I would say like generally the care's been

02:13good. I do think that the services are overstretched. And I think it's really hard, especially with

02:20some like long term physical, like chronic conditions, to actually get the support you

02:25need. I think they just don't have the funding available. And I think you really have to

02:29learn to advocate for yourself. Otherwise, you just don't really get the access that

02:33you need.

02:34Yes, I think so. But I heard for the hospital, for example, operation, you should stay two

02:39years or either you should go operation in Lithuania. What? That all was in the documentary

02:47film, you know. Actually, I was shocked about that. But it didn't happen to me. Yeah, I

02:54am happy, yes, with the GP local, yes.
